  1. I could be wrong, but I think it's based off when they sign, not when they debut. Diaz signed before the 2013 Rule V draft, even though he didn't debut until 2014.
  2. IMO, it should factor in. I can see an argument for basing it only on the stats, with no context whatsoever, and that's fine. But to me, and clearly the guys voting here, the context does matter.
  3. 3-5, 13 yards. Down 0-7 to maybe the worst FCS team in the country. Meet the new Mitch Leidner , same as the old Mitch Leidner.
  4. I thought that was the fear of Triscuits .
  5. Because barring a platoon, lefties get to face opposite handed pitching twice as often as righties do. Against opposite handed pitching you can be longer with your swing because you pick up the ball a lot earlier.
  6. 1) It's actually highly unlikely that Sano is anywhere near his peak. The guy is 23 years old. 2) If we only get Dozier like production from Sano, most people on this board will be very disappointed, and should be. Dozier is a nice player, I like him, always have, always have defended him. But, he's not a guy anyone outside of Twins territory will remember in 10 years. Sano should blossom into a superstar. You are correct that Sano would bring back a bigger return. But since he's likely not even close to his peak yet, and under team control for at least 5 more seasons, it would be stupid to trade him now. Reconsider it if we are still not close 3 or 4 years from now.
  7. This team is going to lose 100+ games, and is giving major playing time in August to never will be's like Albers, Dean, O'Rourke, and Schaefer. I mean, if this team is not still far away, then I don't know that you'd ever say a Twins team was.
  8. You answered your own question on accident. Those guys are ALWAYS at peak value. There is no reason to trade them until you have to. Plus, they are all young enough (except maybe Votto) to be a big part of their teams next WS contention. Santana and Dozier will likely never have as much trade value as they do now. And Santana for sure, and likely Dozier will never be a big part of the next contending Twins team.
  9. Adding Garver and calling him up on September won't burn an option this year. If he is sent back down next year, it would burn one then. But, that is unavoidable either way, because Garver HAS to be added to the 40 man this winter anyways.
  10. Keeping "long term familiar family faces", even though they are clearly at their peak trade value is how you end up with a guy like Glen Perkins.
  11. I clearly said "when healthy". He played in 40 of 67 games since coming off the DL on 6/17. That fits the description of most games. Before that injury, he played in all 31 consecutive games, after coming off the DL on 4/25. Before that injury he had played in 4 of the first 5 games. When he's been on the roster, he's played in 75 of 103 games.
  12. What do you mean by "25th player"? When he's healthy, Santana plays most days. He's not some guy sitting on the end of the bench in case someone gets hurt.
  13. Ron Paul "it's happening" is the one that gets me every time.
  14. Well I'd give May the benefit of the doubt that he knows his own body better than anyone else. He says that his back holds up better with the regular routine of starting. How is that not all the evidence you need?
  15. If anything the staff content is sometimes too positive, considering the depths of failure surrounding this team for the last 6 years. I thought the article was great, spot on, and necessary. Keep up the good work Nick.
  16. Forget zeroes, throw up some 1's or 2's for a start.
  17. Is it too late to take Bud Selig up on that contraction offer?
  18. Yes, Garver does have to be added to the 40 man this off-season, or be exposed to the Rule V draft.
  19. I would imagine that Pat Dean will slide into the rotation.
  20. Twins need to send Allen and Molitor down to Rochester. Hopefully the advice for Berrios when he gets down there will be, "next time you get up there just do what you've done at every level and don't listen to a word those guys say.
  21. I like Dozier. This kind of power up the middle doesn't grow on trees. That said, I agree. This team is absolutely desperate for starting pitching, and I think trading Dozier is the only realistic path to achieving that.
  22. The reason I would be open to keeping him with a new coaching staff is because he could be traded for decent return (something close to what Nunez got) if he pitches to his potential. But if this staff stays, yeah I'd non tender him.
  23. No, that's not what happened at all. The Angels, right or wrong, really wanted to gamble on Alex Meyer, and Santiago is the price they had to pay for it. Unless I missed all the speculation surrounding him up to the deadline, I don't think they were actively shopping him. I don't know why you think I'm making him out to be something I'm not. He was a fairly consistent 4th ( on a bad team) or 5th (on a decent team) starter. That is nothing special, but still had value, unlike the post tinkering Santiago who has no business in a major league stadium.
