I get your point, but Tebow was extremely productive in college. Some in the NFL got teased by that combination of production and size, and gambled they could tweak a couple of things. There has been no such tease by Leidner, unless it's as an H back type.

Article: REPORT: Twins To Sign Jason Castro
Mr. Brooks replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Catcher ERA is a pretty worthless stat on its own. You'd have to adjust for which pitchers they caught, and for opposing lineups. Suppose the manager was more likely to use Castro with a poor pitcher against a tough lineup because he figured the pitcher was more likely to need the help in that match-up? And perhaps he uses favorable match ups as a good day to give Castro off. Without context, this of course is going to give Gattis an advantage in catcher ERA. I'm not saying that happened, just pointing out one of probably many reasons why catcher ERA is worthless without context. Pitch framing is something that the catcher has some control over. Catcher ERA is dependent on so many other factors.- 223 replies

Butera has not out hit Castro. My response to you 2 pages ago: I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers from, but Butera last 3 years: .604 OPS Castro last 3 years: .660 OPS Herrmann is an awful defensive catcher. He is a corner outfielder who can play catcher in a pinch.- 223 replies

What do you mean by now what? Getting those calls is better than not getting those, so it has value. And I doubt you can name a single player in baseball with at least 1000 PA's who has better numbers behind than ahead.- 223 replies

Poor pitch framing doesn't only cost you walks. Batters hit much better ahead in the count than they do when behind in the count. The difference between 2-1 and 1-2 is huge, as is 1-1 and 0-2.- 223 replies

Yes, I apologize Kwak. I knew I should have gone back and checked first. I got your post above confused with another in a different thread that said Castro will have bids from contending teams which excludes the Twins. Sorry again.- 223 replies

Yeah I don't buy this. "Calling a game" is the kind of non fact based thinking that Falvey specifically mentioned fixing, thankfully. Suzuki was lauded for his mythical talent at calling a game, we all saw how useful that was.- 223 replies

Ramos might not be able to catch again. You complain about our surplus of DH/1B types and then want us to get a catcher who might be limited to DH/1B?- 223 replies

It's not really fair to compare guys who have hit the open market vs. guys still under team control, regarding salary. If you can develop talent, your reward is getting underpriced production. When you fail to develop and have to go to FA, you pay a premium.- 223 replies

Article: REPORT: Twins To Sign Jason Castro
Mr. Brooks replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the signing, but yes I think we are absolutely at least 3 years away from competing. Sure, any team can luck into a 2015 and play. 500 ball and stick around the 2nd wild card. But, 3 years minimum for division titles. I don't think most people fully realize just how big of a mess Ryan left behind, organizationally. The behind the scenes structure was stuck in the stone age, and that can't be fixed overnight. This team lost over 100 games last year. Loyal ownership groups don't fire a GM that has been part of the organization for 25 years because we are a tweak or two away. In order to think we can be serious competitors in 2 years or less, you have to believe that Ryan's plan was working, and was just a year or two slow. I for one don't believe that. We have a few nice young pieces, but none have turned into stars yet, and the farm is just average. If Berrios or Buxton are a bust, and Sano is just good but not elite, then we could be in for a long, long rebuild.- 223 replies

One of the reasons why batters hit the cover off our pitchers is because they are always getting into good hitters counts. The difference between 2-1 and 1-2 is huge in an at bat, and a great pitch framer can help with that.- 223 replies

Yeah that is my line of thinking. I'm giving Levine the benefit of the doubt, because of what we've heard from ownership and at the introductory presser regarding his and Falvey's strong character. I'm thinking that once Plouffe didn't answer his phone, he was either going to find out via voicemail or social media. And that Levine figured it would be better he hear it from him personally, even if by voicemail, than from fans on Twitter.
-
Someone said he wasn't a professional because of this. That is absolutely a judgement of his character. If the article had said he found out via social media, would you call that a BS move? Because it's possible that is exactly what would have happened had Levine left a message saying "Trevor call me back", and then was too busy making other transactions to answer Plouffe's return call right away. I just think you are ignoring that there might have been other circumstances that could make this not a BS move.
-
I don't think Plouffe is still in Minnesota, the season has been over for almost 2 months now. Yeah he could have said that, but maybe he had a lot of calls to make at that time (it was a busy day for roster moves), couldn't be sure he'd be able to take Plouffe's call back, and didn't want him to find out via social media. I mean maybe he did it this way because he's an a-hole who treats people like crap, but I don't know why you would assume that to be the case when there are other possibilities. I also doubt the Pohlads would have hired someone like that.

Article: Twins Add Six Players To 40-Man Roster
Mr. Brooks replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Grossman gives all that OBP, plus some away in the field. In my opinion, he literally cannot be allowed to play in the field, not even for 1 game. That leaves DH. Do his hitting numbers look as pretty at DH? Do you keep him over Vargas and Park? I don't know the answers to those. But if he's allowed to see 1 more inning in the field then I've already lost faith in this FO.- 48 replies
