  1. I get what you are saying Seth, and some prospects require more patience than others. But, when one of the specific reasons for drafting a guy at a certain point in the draft is because they are close to mlb ready then it does matter, at least a little bit.
  2. I think enough of Mejia that I'd have him start the season in the MLB rotation. And yes, I know that won't happen and that not many will agree.
  3. I think your research says it all. He's Pat Dean, but without the control. If he wasn't a high draft pick, he'd be looked at as organizational depth. As to "be patient, he's 21", every milb player who never made it was once 21. I was once 21, and I never pitched in the majors either. Simply being young alone means next to nothing.
  4. Yes, I understand what you are saying. I'm simply pointing out what I think the organization is going to do, not what is right or wrong. They aren't benching Sano or Dozier just so they can be a little better defensively. That's just not happening. If Polanco can't win the SS spot, then he just won't play much. He's not playing at the expense of Sano or Dozier.
  5. But if you are getting him at bats at the expense Dozier or Sano then you are not improving your lineup on those days. I'm not saying Polanco at SS is ideal, but they saw this coming from a mile away and still chose not to trade Dozier. That makes me think they think he can at least be passable at SS, even if you disagree with them. I doubt the plan is keep Dozier so that Polanco can steal at bats from better hitters.
  6. I also agree that Gibson "should" not be a lock. But I think in the eyes of the organization, he absolutely is a lock.
  7. You want to give Dozier and Sano a day off every week? There are 26 weeks in the season. Limiting those two players to 136 games max, even if healthy would be silly.
  8. I said if healthy. And when I say every day, I don't mean 162 games. He'll play 150 games at 3B if he's healthy- which of course is a big if.
  9. Well I don't believe the Twins will give Dozier and Sano 2 days each per week at DH. Sano needs reps at 3rd. The Twins are going nowhere in 2017. He will play there everyday, yes even if he's terrible. If he doesn't improve, then you have to find a new spot for him in 2018, but if healthy he'll play every day at 3B in 2017.
  10. Good. They shouldn't change the strike zone based on the score.
  11. I'm guessing the Twins would rather have the cash than the type of non prospect Light would return. Pittsburgh may or may not have felt someone would claim Light, but the Twins probably just said, "first team to offer 50k, he's yours."
  12. Like it or not, Sano is going to play 3B every day this year. So you are going to put Polanco at DH 120 times?
  13. Well you aren't going to bench Sano or Dozier very often if they are healthy. So, barring injury, how many starts is Polanco going to get in this scenario?
  14. In no world are the Falcons beating new England by 17 points. I'm really struggling to understand what you're thinking there Seth.
  15. If you were thinking of me, I said it on the same context as Mike. I was happy to see Ryan fired and have patience with the new guys. I just get frustrated when people insist that the pieces are in place, and we only need internal improvement to compete. It was rhetorical- why fire the GM if you think he assembled the right players and they just need more time to improve?
  16. The Twins could have traded him. He should have some value if he'd get the same or more salary on the open market.
  17. I misunderstood your post when I responded why fire Ryan. I read it to mean that long term improvement was going to have to come from the players we already have. I didn't realize you were only referring to this season. I still think there were moves to be made for 2018 and beyond that were not made, namely trading Dozier and possibly Santana, as well as going upside instead of safe in the Rule 5. But, if using the first year as an evaluation year is part of a plan then I'll be patient and see how it works out down the road.
  18. If everything but the progression of the guys already on the team (aka do nothing and hope we get better) is marginal, then why even fire Terry Ryan?
  19. It's only a logical move if you think you can compete for a WS during his 2 years. If not, then it's just stubborn and a waste of an asset. It's a bummer if a fierce market never develops for Dozier. You could even call it bad luck. But I think it's silly to let an asset expire when you could have gotten 75 cents on the dollar.
  20. And what if Dozier says no thanks to an extension and hits FA? You are going to let him walk for nothing? If that is your answer, fine, that's what I wanted to know. I'll be pretty upset if the FO takes that route though.
  21. What if the market never catches up to their internal evaluation? That is my question.
  22. And what if no other team agrees with the Twins evaluation? Just get nothing for him and let him walk in 2 years? Sign him to a massive extension and pay big for his post productive seasons? A players value is what the free market dictates it is. They aren't the electric company. They don't get to just set a price and force people to pay it.
  23. Am I reading this right? You are saying the Twins will finish 2nd in the division at worst?
  24. Disagree. You are saying that sports owners sometimes make emotional rather than rational decisions. I'm saying in this case the Dodgers ownership has nothing to do with it. Andrew Friedman is in charge of the trade negotiations, and he is going to act rationally, not emotionally.
