  1. If Buxton hits his ceiling we are all going to be thankful that they chose him over Appel and Gausman. And we still have a chance to draft Appel this year.
  2. Not sure about that. Biddle is probably a #2 at best, Martin has a great fastball, but seems destined for the bullpen, and Pettitbone is a middle of the rotation guy. You are right, perhaps they saw something with Bourn that makes them think he is overrated, but if they think he's better I don't think money is an issue. Roy Halladay's 2014 option is almost surely not going to vest, and they have Utley and Michael Young coming off the books after this year. I guess what I'm saying is obviously there is no way to know if they saw something in Worley that they didn't like, but to me its enough to raise at least a little bit of a red flag. I don't think it can just be dismissed.
  3. Uh yeah, but there is a threshold where the opponent is SO weak that it does you no good to beat up on them. UNC is hardly Holyfield or Tyson. If you can't play a competitive game against UNC, you have no business coaching a Big Ten football team.
  4. I disagree. I think they did an excellent job of managing him last year, but last year he was coming off the whole 'bilateral leg weakness' fiasco of 2011. Now that he appears to have all that completely behind him, there should be no reason, IMO, that he cant catch 110 games per year.

  6. I'd say no. Of the 7 #'s the Twins have retired (not counting 42), all but one have either won a WS here, or are HOF'ers. The only exception is Tony Oliva, and with all due respect to Santana, he's is not as significant a part of Twins history as Mr. Oliva is.
  7. Among AL players who played at least 300 innings at SS last year, Carroll ranked 7th, with a 6.0 UZR/150, Florimon ranked 15th, with a negative 8.9 UZR/150, which was worse than Brian Dozier. All we keep hearing about is how good of a defender Florimon CAN BE, but so far we havent seen it.
  8. Really, I havent seen any of this vitriol towards Parmalee. I've seen mostly optimism regarding him, in fact I think even a little bit too much of it.
  9. And I think its going to backfire. How are the casual fans going to respond when TR keeps telling them that this team is going to be competitive, only to find themselves watching another 90 loss team? To use a food analogy like you, think of it this way: Would you be upset if you went to McDonalds and got a crummy dollar burger? No, it would be dumb to be upset, because that is exactly what you were sold, and was what you expected when you went in. Would you be upset if you went to a nice restaurant, and paid $15 for crummy dollar burger? Damn right you would be. You were sold on a juicy, tasty, perfectly cooked burger, and instead got a thin, dry, overcooked, oversalted meat patty. The Twins should be embracing the rebuild. Twins fans proved in the early 2000's that they will embrace a young, rebuilding team, as long as there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This strategy TR and St. Pete are taking is going to backfire in a huge way.
  10. Yeah, I guess I hadn't thought of it that way. You are correct, the Twins medical staff is certainly not known for its top notch diagnosis and treatment.
  11. That is playing by a different set of rules though. See, I don't view this roster as a competitive one. So there is no combonation of players I can sign with that money that gets us to 90 wins. HOWEVER, TR keeps saying we are not rebuilding and that this will be a competitive club. If that is the case, you should only need to add 5 to 7 or so wins to get there. If you can't find 5 to 7 wins with $40 million, you have no business being an MLB GM. And, it's not my job to say who he should sign. He's the one being paid to be a GM, not me. If the market dictates that you have to overpay to get a guy, then do it. It's not like you don't have plenty of extra money to do so.
  12. No, I'm not saying those were the only offers. I'm saying I don't believe that they made the BEST offer to guys, but were turned down because guys don't want to come here. To be blunt, I think TR lowballs FA's. And I thought that Liriano said the Twins offer wasn't as good as the Pirates offer? I could be remembering that wrong though.
  13. Do you have a link that his offers were competitive with other teams, and that they turned them down, for the reasons you state?
  14. How does letting your team beat up on a bunch of scrubs get them ready to win? That is like saying you should train a pro boxer by bringing him to a nursing home and letting him beat up elderly women. You get better by playing TOUGHER competition, not by playing easier competition. You have it backwards, IMO.
  15. Yeah, if you can guarantee that he'll make it at 3B, and stick long term at 3B, I agree. But if his bat is ready, but you hold him back wanting him to stay at 3B, only for it to never happen, and end up bringing him up as a 1B anyway, then all that time was a waste. And, I'm not saying he's ready now. But I'm hearing he's close , that his bat could be ready as soon as Sept. this year, or opening day next year.
  16. I don't think we'll ever sign a front line starter unless you are predicting that TR will be fired. I'm not even trying to rip him, he himself has admitted that he is philosophically opposed to giving the type of years required to get one of those big time front of the rotation starters.
  17. You kind of contradict yourself when you say that the key to defense is not your cornermen, but then say that the Twins are much better off if Sano plays 3rd. Anyways, I agree he's more valuable at 3B, but my point is if moving him to 1B gets his bat here sooner, then I'm for it. From what I've heard, his bat is VERY close to being ready, it's going to be improving on his brutal 3B defense that is going to hold him back longer.
  18. Do you put any stock into Doogie's "sources"? Doogie was on Mackey and Ruesse, and said that Benson is upset at how he's been handled, upset that he got passed up by Hicks, and is basically demanding a trade. If true, I can't believe the nerve of this punk.
  19. Austin Jackson's career avg. for HR/RBI is 11/56.
  20. We'll see. It's not often you see legit prospects released.
  21. How many points of OPS has Morneau dropped the last 3 years?
  22. Yeah, with that format (1 point per out!), you start the guy with 2 starts, anytime everytime. Based on your scoring, unless a guy puts up a WHIP of 3.00 or higher, he's going to earn you more points with 2 starts, then the guy making 1 start realistically can. I would start Parker, he has the easier starts of the 2.
  23. Its based on anyone/everyone with less than 130 AB's or 50 IP's in the mlb.
  24. Fielder's career OBP is only 12 points behind Mauer's, while his SLG is 70 points higher. If you are removing position and glove, and only looking at hitting, Fielder is well above Mauer.
  25. Not sure you are thinking of the right guy. Nolin is not a hard thrower, he's more of a soft tossing, command and control type pitcher. I'd say his upside is maybe a Vance Worley, but with a little better feel for his secondary stuff.
