  1. Not if they don't make changes. The current regime will NEVER return to even an illusion of success. 6 awful years will turn into 9, which will turn into 15. The game has passed these guys by, and they have no idea what they are doing.
  2. I think the takeaway is that catchers are really, really hard to find and develop.
  3. I think you are mistaken here. Escobar started bad, then got hurt and hasn't played since. He's on the DL and has yet to play post injury.
  4. All that is going to do is get you thrown into whatever gulag they have alex meyer in.
  5. ERA is flawed as a predictive stat. Looking at careers that are already over there is nothing wrong with it.
  6. To the casual fan, which is the bulk of the financial base, we were competitive.
  7. The Twins won't continue to make money with this product though. There is a difference between the Twins, and Walmart or McDonalds. Walmart and McDonalds customer base is getting exactly what they want and expect. They want a subpar, but cheap and convenient product. They don't go into McDonalds expecting them to turn it around any day now and serve a 5 star menu. I think most Twins fans expect an eventual return to a competitive product. And, I think when year 6 turns into year 9, then year 13, Target Field will turn into a ghost town.
  8. Post steroid era, guys not named Ortiz who are power DH types don't have much value at those ages. I'm fine keeping him and gambling that he's the rare one who keeps hitting into his mid 30's, but I'd be tempted if it was for a legit package of near mlb ready prospects. We have plenty of DH types, I don't think we lose much overall production trading Park and moving Sano or Arcia to DH. Defense matters too, despite the Twins telling you otherwise.
  9. Different eras. Most those other guys pitched at the tail end of the steroid era. Career ERA+ Radke 113 Leiter 112 Santana 99 Pavano 96 Gibson 89 Blackburn 86 Gibson is a lot closer to Blackburn than those other guys. And Gibson is in the middle of his prime years. Those other guys have their decline years in those numbers.
  10. How many companies would do that if their product had turned into an utter disaster?
  11. I could see Nolasco as a potential ST cut next year if we can't move him, as it would be his final year. Hughes is not a outright release candidate. No team in baseball would do that, not with 3 years and 50 million.
  12. If Park keeps this up long enough that he can get a legit blockbuster package, then I absolutely would. This team is still several years away from contention, how valuable do we really think about 32 or 33 year old DH is going to be by then? Plus, it allows Sano or Arcia to move to DH.
  13. I have to disagree on Gibson. I don't think he would make a playoff rotation. I don't think a well run organization would be fooled by a lucky 2015 that was never sustainable. It's just incredibly rare to have continued success when you don't miss any bats. I'm not saying you have to be Pedro Martinez, but you can't be among the lowest in baseball. Kyle Gibson is Nick Blackburn.
  14. So you expect the Twins to turn it around and contend for a playoff spot this year? Because if not, Nunez batting average is meaningless.
  15. And Terry Ryan hand picked Mollie as his field manager, so that all comes back to Terry. That's the responsibility of being in upper management. You are responsible for the hires you make, period.
  16. Well if Polanco isn't better than the guys we have now then we're screwed either way. In case you haven't noticed, the guys we have now are 8-25. There is no downside to playing Polanco every day.
  17. Still no word on Meyer? If he's being blocked at AAA by Andrew Albers I think I'm gonna lose it.
  18. Last year was based on one fluke month of May. Outside of that month it was indistinguishable from the other four 90 loss seasons. Shame on a supposedly good "baseball man" for not recognizing that.
  19. Someone please make a gif of his bicycle kick to Santana tonight and post it in this thread. Thanks.
  20. Please, I can't handle the thought of turning over to Antony, and having to watch a 70 year old Terry Ryan come out of retirement for tenure #3 when it fails epically. I've had a LOT of patience these last 6 years, and I'm willing to be patient for a few more years if there is a legit blueprint to success laid out. If the replacement comes from within though, I just don't think I can do it. I don't think I can handle perpetual bad baseball with no payoff in sight.
  21. This. At some point the two sides of the argument are going to have to meet in the middle and agree that it doesn't have to be an "either/or" discussion. It's possible that Terry Ryan was a good, competent, successful GM during the second half of his first tenure, but that the game has passed him by in his second tenure. It eventually happens to everyone, no matter your profession.
  22. Terry Ryan hand picked Mollie to manage this group. Whatever percent fault is on Mollie (which is a lot, his ability to manage borders on complete incompetence, IMO), goes right back to Terry.
  23. In general I was speaking to more than one post or even one day. It's been all year. I mean someone yesterday wanted Sano sent back to AAA. It's crazy.
  24. Berrios has had 3 starts. While the final lines haven't been the best, he's had stretches where he looks in control, and clearly can already miss more bats than any other pitcher in our rotation. This kid is going to be a star, where did this demand for instant gratification come from? I used to think we had smarter baseball fans than this.
  25. Not really a work around though. Those second hand sellers would stop buying them if there was no market for them.
