  1. Puig would never make it to the AL without being claimed.
  2. I agree with Sullivan and have been saying this all year. It amazes me that most people on this board think we can compete as soon as next year. Sure, the lineup could be middle of the road or even above average, but I don't see any way our starting pitching isn't bottom 3 in baseball for at least another year.
  3. Why would Santana clear waivers? All we heard leading up to the deadline was how his contract has so much surplus value into the offseason, and that's why we should hold on to him. If that is true, wouldn't plenty of teams claim him?
  4. Oops! F for reading comprehension I guess.
  5. Fun exercise, but nobody is claiming Mauer. That would be an instantly fireable offense by the other GM.
  6. I think what he means is that you can only do that once, I believe. I don't think you can keep trying over and over again, pulling them back each time. I think you can pull them back the one time, then if you try to run them through again, you lose them if claimed. Is this correct?
  7. Great post. I agree with pretty much every word of this. If Santiago blocks May from getting another look in the rotation, then I think it makes the trade and instant loss, regardless of how Meyer turns out.
  8. Kepler should have been in the opening day lineup and played every game since. And, yes, I said that from the start.
  9. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can use trade waivers for removing a player from your 40 man roster. Trade waivers are revocable, meaning a player can be pulled back if claimed. I'm pretty sure that a player has to clear irrevocable waivers before they can be removed from the 40 man. Though, again, I could be wrong on that.
  10. I'm bummed to lose Meyer. I still think he ends up as a top of the rotation stater. But, Pohlad decided that likely wasnt going to be here when he mandated that Mollie come back next year. Molitor was never in a million years going to use Meyer. So, I guess I can't blame Antony, but I still hate to see him go.
  11. They could have had Shaggy up here, with the corresponding move pending deadline activity, like they did with Berrios. I can't understand why Shaggy is still in AAA.
  12. Meyer was traded, so they only have to open 1 spot. My guess would be DFA Milone and call up Shaggy.
  13. I'd guess they just DFA Milone, move Duffey back to the rotation and call up Shaggy.
  14. No, we are not down a pitcher. Nolasco and Abad left, replaced by Berrios and Santiago.
  15. You need a stronger arm from SS. The throw from deep SS is actually further than almost any throw a 3b has to make, plus the SS has to throw against their momentum a lot more often than a 3b.
  16. Hughes' career is in doubt. The precedent of returning after the surgery he had is mixed at best. That's not to say he can't be one of the guys who does make it back, but I think from a roster construction point of view, you assume he's never coming back, and adjust later if he does.
  17. It depends what the asking price is. Those guys are better, no doubt, but it also means they have a higher price. Someone might find Suzuki to be a better value. Herrmann and Butera had value, and that means almost any catcher has value. Nobody is picking up that option at that price, so trade him for what you can get, and bring him back next year if need be.
  18. What is this improved approach at the plate you speak of? The guy had 1 walk in 78 plate appearances since being called back up!! The only difference between Rosario post recall, vs. Rosario pre recall, is that his babip is 100 points above his norm. Guys that swing at everything simply cannot have sustained success at the plate. If he has value, I'd be all for trading him. If he doesn't, I would send him down to AAA, and I'd start from scratch and totally revamp his approach at the plate, even if that means he never gets it and never plays an mlb game for us again.
  19. No, Dozier has one of the weakest arms in all of baseball.
  20. MLB pipeline seems to place more weight on upside over floor. I suspect that when/if baseball America updates they'll have him a bit higher.
  21. Because those same teams had a chance to take him for nothing a few weeks ago when we DFA'd him. Milone just isn't very good.
  22. In any other city I think it would be a no brainer, you sit Mauer. He can start 1 or 2 games per week and pinch hit every close game. But, I don't see this organization benching Joe, so I don't see Park finding any playing time until Vargas cools off.
  23. He was 7th on mlb pipeline. I'd guess the same publication slots him in at 10 here, right between Chargois and Rortvedt.
