  1. Avila can't hit at all? He had exactly a league average bat last year, and 2% better than league average for his career. And those league averages include 1B, DH and corner outfielder, so he's a well above average hitting catcher.
  2. I think MLB should come up with a list of some kind, where injured players can be removed from the roster and placed, so that they don't have to play injured.
  3. Are you thinking of Giancarlo Stanton? Because Aaron Judge is a really good defensive corner outfielder.
  4. My mistake. That is indeed a great deal for Bonilla.
  5. I doubt there are any hard feelings. Most likely, they aren't airing it out in the press because there is nothing to air out.
  6. Deferred money is a poor investment for the player, not the team. That $1.2 million he's getting this year has far less value then it did when he signed the contract, far less. Investing a huge chunk of money at 0.0 interest is laughably foolish. Or at least I'd think it is, I'm not an economics expert.
  7. Sano doesn't surprise me, as I've already seen those numbers regarding him. I've posted multiple times that the numbers don't bare out the misconception that when Sano strikes out it's because he flails at breaking pitches out of the zone. He's always had tremendous plate discipline, his K struggles have always come when he whiffs on pitches in the zone. Of course, once somebody's "eye test" tells them something, even something false, no amount of factual data is likely to change their minds.
  8. The Twins are famously deep in young pitching? When did this happen?
  9. His OPS+ was 7% worse. The offensive environment has to be considered when looking at just the raw numbers.
  10. What was the kerfuffle over #20? I recall that Donaldson asked for the number, and Rosario declined. I must have missed the ensuing kerfuffle.
  11. You are forgetting the offense, who didn't score enough runs to win the series regardless of our pitching. There is plenty of blame to go around in that series.
  12. I can see you put a lot of thought and time into this, so I'll try not to be too harsh. I don't think it's a good idea.
  13. No, the Twins development group has not always been good. That's why they were the worst team in baseball for most of a decade, and Ryan got fired. They were awful on the development side.
  14. Having not read any of the publications write ups, my wild guess would be that maybe BP has already determined he's a 1B, while the others are still classifying him as an outfielder.
  15. Ben Revere still had 4 years of team control remaining when we traded him. I'm fine with the trade, but he wasn't soon to be a free agent.
  16. I believe that's called an opinion. And given his talent and prospect rankings, a completely fair one. I know I'll miss having him. Sharing opinions is the whole point of this site. It's not a clearinghouse to compile facts.
  17. Can you link to a few of the posts claiming Graterol will be the most dominant pitcher in all of baseball?
  18. I believe those were the writers words. I doubt Falvey views him as a 1 or 2.
  19. Perhaps you didn't notice last year's historical offensive environment. May's 2.94 ERA was 56% better than league average. That's bordering on elite.
  20. I think they view him as a lottery ticket, hence the structure of the contract. I don't agree they expect him to pitch significant innings. Though they'll obviously be thrilled if he does, just like any lottery ticket. If he throws more than 50 innings for the Twins this year, I'll be very surprised.
  21. I don't agree nothing will change it. Marwin could say he benefited significantly financially from cheating, and he's therefore donating 20% of his contract to programs for homelessness.
  22. Results matter, sure, but not over 25 games in rookie ball. That sample size is completely meaningless, and I'd say the same thing if he destroyed rookie ball pitching. At this point, he should still be graded on his tools, in which case this ranking seems fair.
  23. I'll be very surprised, shocked almost, if Hill throws significant innings for the Twins this year.
  24. We sure had a hard time hitting them in that series.
  25. I don't believe specific performance incentives are allowed under the current CBA. Playing time incentives are, as are award bonuses, but not performance incentives.
