  1. I have zero interest in trading Gordon. I'd be open to trading any of the other SS you listed.
  2. I could be thinking of someone else, but I think Rooker has already played with a wood bat.
  3. Not the only way to success, but a complete lack of ability to miss bats in AA is a red flag that he likely doesn't have what it takes to get out mlb hitters. It's not like he is a control artist who doesn't walk anyone, I'd give him more of a chance if he was. Even guys that had modest success without strikeouts, like Nick Blackburn or Mike Pelfrey still had better k rates in AA. The only guy I can find off the top of my head with comparable k rates is Carlos Silva, but he still had a k/bb approaching 4:1 because he didn't walk anyone in AA. If he can drastically cut down his walk rate he could make it as a Blackburn/Silva type #5. Even the most ardent supporters of Stewart wouldn't give him a greater than 50% chance of becoming an impact player, so I guess we're all jumping the gun at this point.
  4. Sure, there are always exceptions, and that is why I say he has little chance and not zero chance.
  5. Where do the Twins rank among teams in attempts per opportunity? Is it possible that his lack of aggressiveness is a reflection of the team philosophy?
  6. I used to love Ruesse until I started listening to his radio show and heard some pretty disgusting attitudes towards women come out of his mouth. People defend it by saying he's old and these attitudes were once considered normal, but that's no excuse for me. I'm not into censorship, so I don't believe he needs to go away or not have a platform or anything, but I certainly can choose to have zero respect for him.
  7. Stewart can still make it in the same sense that any milb player could still make it. I don't care if he puts up a 0.00 ERA. With his k rates he's never going to translate to mlb ball. And, he's never shown any ability for even modest strikeout rates at any point in his milb career. I was for the pick, i was wrong, it happens. I think some people automatically assume that when you call a guy like Stewart a bust you are ripping the Twins, so they get overly defensive. That doesn't have to be the case though. This pick made sense, just hasn't worked out at this point, and is a long shot to ever work out.
  8. That we me, and I've never suggested he's a bust. Far too early for that, also far too early too get excited about anything he's done in a league he doesn't belong in. He will be lucky to have ABW's career. (Opinion of course) What are the odds on a guy picked where he was? Maybe it's higher than I think, who knows. I'm just not a big believer, looking at his strike out tendencies, his strategy of just sitting fastball, and his priority of individual award ceremonies over actually going to work. That doesn't mean I'm writing him off as a bust though, these things are just opinion and not fact yet. If/ when I'm wrong I'll own it and be happy for him and the team. I don't feel like I need to be called out for my opinion though. If I had a positive opinion of him in this same small sample size nobody would think twice. But if it's a negative opinion then its, "whoa whoa, sample size dude!" And, of course if I waited for a large sample size to give my opinion out would be, "well yeah but that's hindsight bro, didn't hear you complaining when he was mashing in Elizabethtown."
  9. I think the Sale trade was an off-season deal though, correct? I think with the trade deadline premium they could get close to as much for Quintana.
  10. The guys determining his role are not the same guys writing the checks though. I can understand ownership might not let them cut a 13 million player, but I doubt the Pohlads are going to demand that he start.
  11. The move to the bullpen for Hughes is permanent, IMO. I don't think he starts another game in his career.
  12. Polanco also has not been "consistently bad". He's had moments, but overall pretty good defensively.
  13. Well there are only 32 guys in all of baseball that are at .300 or above right now. Last season only 25 guys in all of baseball hit .300 or better. That is pretty select company, and "not too shabby" is pretty faint praise.
  14. You are actually paying them MORE than what the league values them at, not less, because you are drafting them higher than they would have otherwise gone. That isn't a snub at all.
  15. How many hitters in all of baseball hit over .300? I don't think a guy needs to be an elite hitter to be described as not too shabby.
  16. That might be true, but he's going to get a shot once he's ready. He's not going to go ride buses in AAA at his age unless he's been promised a shot in the rotation.
  17. Santiago will be back from DL before a 5th starter is needed. Berrios Erv Mejia Colon Santiago I get that Santiago isn't a great option either, but he's still better than Gibson, IMO.
  18. Well if they really do think that then I don't think they should be paid to make baseball decisions. I could MAYBE see that argument if they were working miracles with the pitching staff. But, they ain't. This pitching staff is awful.
  19. I'm hoping it's Gibson who goes when Colon is ready.
  20. I'm going to be pretty disappointed if Gordon is traded. I think he'll be a perennial all star caliber SS.
  21. That quote wasn't in the article anywhere.
  22. I wasn't aware that was a quote from Jax. I thought it was a twins daily posters words. I've tried googling the quote, along with Jax name, but can't find it anywhere. Can you direct me to where that was said? If he did indeed say that, after taking the Twins money, then you are right.
  23. The Twins freely drafted him and signed him knowing this was possible. Investments come with risk and the Twins decided this investment was worth that risk. Jax shouldn't return any money, the error is on the Twins part.
  24. He did say "little to zero", not zero, which sounds about right to me.
