  1. Real life is violent as hell. Shouldn't art reflect that? Especially the subjects that Tarantino tackles. Armed jewel robbery, organized crime hitmen, trained assassins, nazi hunters, slave traders, frontier bounty hunters... how do you tell those stories, realistically, without violence?
  2. That's like saying you should have hit at 19 in blackjack because the next card ended up being a deuce. They don't have a crystal ball. They don't know if Dyson is going to perform below, at, or above his established talent level. They don't know how his teammates are going to perform in the postseason. They needed bullpen help, and Davis was a fair price to pay for it. They didn't get played, no matter how the results turn out.
  3. Sure, the Miami game is a fair argument, even if I disagree. Last night's game is 100% on him. Since the moment he arrived at the ballpark on Thursday, he's had the exact same itinerary and routine as the rest of the team.
  4. Has anyone else who was traded at the deadline appeared in a game yet? You'd think Dyson is the most fragile person in the world, the way some speak of him. Do you think Dyson would be appreciative of being treated like a baby in front of his brand new teammates? I don't understand how sitting in a comfortable first class seat, watching a movie or listening to music for a couple hours is suddenly some devastatingly incapacitating thing that affects his ability to pitch. You do realize that these guys take like 40 of these flights every season, right? How many off days should the team be given between series, since it's so difficult to play baseball within 48 hours of a flight? The guy is a professional, grown adult. He is a good pitcher who hasn't gotten the job done in two appearances for us so far. That's all. It's not because he napped on a plane for a couple hours, or because he doesn't know his teammates.
  5. Accept that he hasn't gotten the job done, instead of trying to find a reason to blame someone else.
  6. It's amazing the excuses that Dyson continues to get. So they are supposed to just play shorthanded for a week while Dyson gets settled?
  7. Was last night's Dyson meltdown also Baldelli's fault in some way? EDIT: Silly me. I just read the game recap. Of course it's still Baldelli's fault.
  8. That, combined with their bases loaded struggles, makes me worry that they don't handle pressure well. I really hope that's not the case, and it's just SSS noise, because we're going to need this offense to shine in the playoffs.
  9. They didn't want to use him "just to use him". This is exactly how they wanted to use him. This situation is EXACTLY why they acquired him. Rocco brought in Rogers because, once again, he was left little choice. And it almost worked. Nobody else on our roster extends the game to extras. If the bats hadn't mailed it in after the 9th (or if Polanco isn't afraid to get his uniform dirty), we probably win this game despite the Dyson meltdown. Baldelli was really hoping he wouldn't need Rogers today. And he shouldn't have needed him. A 3 run lead in the 9th against a hilariously feeble offense should be a stone cold lock. I can't believe people are ripping Baldelli. I feel bad for him. He has one reliever he can trust. All the bullpen moves that look weird or bad on first glance, are directly rooted in that basic premise. Where I will agree that he's wide open to criticism is that he's being a bit contradictory when he pulls his starters at 80 pitches. Resting them for the long haul is a great luxury in theory, but a luxury we don't have right now. You can't trust any lead, at any point, to any opponent with this bullpen right now. They have to really hope that they get May figured out, or that someone like Graterol can come up and be a phenom out of the pen, or something. Because I don't know how long this high wire act can be sustained. Certainly (IMO) not through the playoffs.
  10. Yeah it seemed like they mailed it in after they assumed the game was already over, which is concerning to me if true.
  11. I'm guessing Rocco doesn't have much faith in anyone except Rogers (rightfully so), and didn't want to watch his bullpen blow a game while his brand new good reliever is just sitting there watching it happen. Of course, because baseball is weird, his brand new good reliever melted down instead.
  12. Baseball is a long season, and Dyson's numbers show a pretty good pitcher, but good grief. A three run lead with only 3 outs left should be close to impossible to blow against the most feeble offense in baseball. You only get one chance at a first impression, and fair or not, it's going to be a long time before I have any trust in Dyson.
  13. I'm glad someone brought up Polanco. He's certainly done enough this year to earn a mulligan from me. And there is certainly plenty of blame to go around today (Hello bats, just because you assumed the game was over when you handed Dyson a 3 run lead with 3 outs to go, doesn't mean you pack away the bats), but if Polanco wasn't afraid of getting his uniform dirty we might have held on in the 9th.
  14. I don't want him in the field in October either. Preventing runs matters. It's why we needed pitching at the deadline. Cruz plays the position of DH for good reason. He can pinch hit.
  15. I agree. However, the domino effect was that Taylor Rogers had to be used on consecutive days, in what was once a 7 run game. Are we not worried about Rogers getting gassed? I understand that Rocco didn't plan it that way, but as we saw in the Yankees series, no lead is safe once it's turned over to the bullpen.
  16. I could really go for a maserattiwhich right now.
  17. Cruz has never played an inning at 1B. I don't think I want my team teaching a 39 year old dog new tricks during a pennant race. If our two biggest complaints are that we've made the World Series, and we have Nelson Cruz to pinch hit in a big spot, I can live with that.
  18. He put himself in a situation where he pretty much had to bring in Rogers. You can't blow that lead to that team. His mistake was allowing Poppen to let them within 3 runs in the first place.
  19. There is a difference between high prices and unreasonable prices. Again, the Twins aren't the only contender who needs impact arms. You saw the Yankees pitching staff when they were here, are you suggesting they also don't have what it takes to pull the trigger? It seems quite evident to me, that if players that every contender could use don't get moved, then the prices weren't simply high, they were unrealistic.
  20. I mean, perhaps they were technically available. But doesn't the fact that they weren't moved imply that the prices might have been unreasonable? It's not like the Twins are the only team that could use impact arms.
  21. Regardless of the reason, if he wouldn't waive it, then we couldn't get him. Who knows why any particular person wouldn't want to come here. It could be one of many different reasons. I'm not sure there is any evidence that it's for a reason that the FO could have prevented.
  22. I don't think the Twins would be substantial underdogs against the Yankees or Sox. I think we'd be slight dogs against the Yankees and slight favorites against the Red Sox.
