  1. "other billionaires suck too" is not an argument against the fact that the pohlads suck and should sell the team.
  2. Yep. I think it's very reasonable not to sign a 34 year old pitcher to a three year contract. But I doubt we had actual contract discussions at all, and didn't entertain any starter on the market. Because ownership needed to make sure to get a certain ROI.
  3. If anyone here is actually going to the game, being out a massive "Sell the Team" banner. We gotta start a movement.
  4. That's not really relevant. He had a pretty darn good year and 2 yr $50 mil left on his contract, which is pretty low risk, comparing to Correa's 4 yr $133 mil.
  5. Billionaires are often obsessed with legacy. Send them the drastically different comments sections of Twins fans discussing Carl Pohlad and how Padres fans discuss Seidler.
  6. Do we think they even draw 25,000 this week? Fans aren't dumb. No one wants to watch a team that's given up already. A final homestand to potentially make the playoffs and I doubt a single game will be anywhere near a sellout.
  7. Update...that was freaking incredible. Top 10 games I've ever been to.
  8. Importantly, the organization. Not the players.
  9. Don't forget the baserunning. But other than that, things are going great!
  10. A fascinating playoff push, playing such ugly baseball that even the most diehards don't want to see.
  11. Well, the Pohlads thank you for carrying their water then. The Twins are a mid market team with a small market mindset. I'll say it again, there's no reason they couldn't be the Padres or the Cardinals or comparable to any other mid market team. So many people here are so defensive of the Pohlads loser mentality. They're running the Twins as a business, no different than one of their banks that, yes, foreclosed on small town community members in order to make a profit. Is this unique in MLB? No, of course it isn't. Which might be part of the reason the sport has died so much over the last 40 years. But that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. I really don't care if me stating the fact that Carl Pohald kicked people out of homes for profit makes you uncomfortable. And I'll stand by push back against this idea that the late Padres owner only increased payroll significantly because he was faced with his own mortality. He was part of the ownership group that doubled payroll from 2013-2015. And while he may have been diagnosed in 2018 we have no evidence he only further pushed up spending in 2020 due to his health issues that came to head in 2023. He wanted a winner more than profit. And baseball would be better off with more Seidlers than Pohlads.
  12. Just the comps across systems. Snelling is a good prospect, but as you noted his value fell quite a lot from when he was ranked so highly before the season. He's actually probably pretty similar, a year or two behind, Woods Richardson. Which is a pretty valuable thing. But would not be like trading Emmanuel Rodriguez. Sorry, I'm just discussing cause I love this stuff.
  13. People complaining about trading Miller was hilarious. If you're worried about that, you're never ever gonna wanna trade an actual prospect. Now, am I happy with Margot? Obviously not, I wanted him DFAd in spring training.
  14. The fanbase is already out. So there's no real risk of further alienation. And the team...do they seem locked in? I'm not saying they should or definitely will. I also don't know that they're gonna try. But they're the ones stressing about payroll and they're the ones that said they're trying to emulate the Rays.
  15. I just don't agree. Maybe to some small degree. But not in a way that would be hugely financially significant. After the allure of the new park wore off, the Padres sat mostly around 10-12th in the NL in attendance, dropping below 2 Million, in the worst stretch. Come 2021 and they signaled that they were in it to win it, attendance has been consistently top 4.
  16. This has always seemed like a lame excuse to me. Oh? There are other things to do in your metropolitan area? How unique. Padres aren't exciting their fans purely because they're starved for sports.
  17. Risk averse thinking in sports is a good way to be mediocre indefinitely. What we know for sure is they traded 2 second/third tier prospects and a handful of low tier flyers, and the return has been worth about 4 wins in less than 2 months. And they actually control two of those 4 guys next season as well. Organizations should be more willing to trade away prospects. If the answer to the question "can this player be a true star" then they are expendable. And a system usually only has 2 or 3 players to which the answer is Yes. Walker Jenkins. Emmanuel Rodriguez maybe? Brooks Lee...eeeeh.
  18. Like 4. And they were in the NLCS one of those years. And very well could be again this year. And they're like 5th in the majors in attendance. They're exciting. The Twins are decidedly...less so.
  19. If you presume a pitcher can't pitch 3 days in a row you've bought into the Twins coddling of players too much.
  20. It is factually correct that Manuel Margot has played more games in the OF than any other player this season. And that's embarrassing. I actually don't blame Rocco THAT much. But...I do blame him. You can only play the team you're given, but he knew Margot wasn't able to be a backup CF and didn't force the FO hand for an actual player? He can't speak up? Do they not have conversations? Ineptitude all around.
  21. Margot has played more games in the outfield than any other player. That's just a fact. Innings, I didn't look at. Is that more important? Sure. But why is a 0.670 OPS with bad defense on the team, much less the most common player in the field? Oh? Injuries? Man, the team really should have suspected Buxton might not be able to play 162. Whoopsadoosie!
  22. Best owner in sports are the ones that do this before their on their deathbed. Mark Cuban. Steve Cohen. And, yeah, Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner was a terrible owner when he tried to meddle with the baseball operations, but he built the single most recognized sports franchise in the country and one of the only global brands in sports. Because he loved the team and wanted to win above all else.
  23. I gotta push back because they didn't give up any prospect nearly as touted as Emmanuel Rodriguez. As you pointed out, that particular prospects value was dropping rapidly. He may still show value but could definitely be a bust.
