  1. Is contraction still on the table?
  2. Joey Gallo gonna strike out to give the Royals a win.
  3. And the top 100 prospect we got appears to be one of those that is only valuable as a trade piece. He took a big step back and will not be appearing on that list again.
  4. With the season on life support, the big question now, will the Twins fail to produce a 70 RBI guy for the 3rd season in a row?
  5. Who could have foreseen a player with bad defense and bad stick would be bad? Falvey and co baffled.
  6. It's not like everyone that knows baseball has been calling on him to be cut since opening day. It came out of nowhere!
  7. I watched it back too, and as much as I hate the guy, not many (if any) RF are getting to that ball.
  8. Well, thankfully we have the incredible bat of Margot in the lead off spot 🙏
  9. Fans thankfully sending the message to ownership. Staying home and for good reason.
  10. Our leadoff hitter in a "must win game" has a .632 OPS and -0.9 WAR on the season. Twins His career OPS against lefties is only like .750. It's not like he's Lane Thomas with a .880/.680 L/R split. He's just barely playable against lefties. How the hell have they allowed THIS to happen? I've not hated a player as much as I've hated Margot in a long time.
  11. They sure didn't seem interested Friday.
  12. Beautiful Tuesday in Minneapolis, the Twins are a game out of playoff contention, and you can buy a ticket on the secondary market for a Fiver.
  13. In the AL, they actually do match up OK. Aside from the Astros, no one has a great top 2. Even the Yankees highly paid 1-2 punch of Cole and Rodon hasn't been that great this year. But, they have by far the advantage once you get into a 3rd or 4th starter. The potential playoff Mariners have a very good rotation as we all know, and they're breathing down the Twins necks, but again the Twins hold the tiebreaker on them. Now the NL, that's a different beast. The NL is so much better than the AL this year.
  14. This is why his claim was actually good. He honestly should have started instead of Zebby, and would be interesting to potentially have a bit under market value next season. He's SP depth, not a high leverage reliever. Had the twins been a proper organization we would have traded for him (or someone like him) on July 30th when he would have provided some good value. Oh well.
  15. I'll go step further...bringing in AAAA players that may or may not catch fire. We have a very interesting 2B down in AAA that was a complete nobody before May, playing in independent ball. We'd have to waive someone like Blewett or Castillo, but no loss there. The small moves can sometimes have a big impact. And I would have absolutely DFA'd Margot to keep up Keirsey. The fact that Manuel Margot not only lasted through the All Star Break, but ended up playing in over 100 games is asinine. That's on FO and Rocco. Fire them all.
  16. Eeeeh, Colt Keith isn't just a rookie call-up. The Tigers have high hopes for him, signing him to a 6 year 28 mil contract before he even made his debut. I would suggest that they DO expect him to be as good (or better) than Carlos Correa in the next couple years.
  17. I'll then say, the Mets benched veteran JD Martinez. Man had a 136 OPS+ last year, and a decent first part of the season (853 OPS on July 1st) but been struggling ever since then (599 OPS). He's lost his job and might not even make the playoff roster if the Mets advance to the NLDS.
  18. If you'll go back to read my original comment, you'll see I'm not saying he should try to get out using only Jax and Duran. He COULD try to get out using only 3 RP, which wouldn't be unique or unprecedented in MLB. I do recognize that this bullpen is fairly coddled and they've not been asked to work like that this season so I do understand that another reliever is likely necessary. But then we've gotta ask if Irvin facing their heart of the order with tying run at the plate in the 5th is preferable to, say, Varland facing their 7-8-9 hitters later in the game in an unknown situation. If this game was as important as we all know it to be, Rocco should be managing it with more urgency than a game in mid - June.
  19. In a playoff push especially, RP are often asked to extend themselves a little bit. Every single one of them had the day off before, and every single one had the day off after. It's not too much to ask them to get 5 or 6 outs instead of 3. Again, see the Mets last night. They used 3 RP to get 15 outs. And ironically the one that didn't work more than 1 inning was the one that usually does. To quote Mets manager Carlos Mendoza "We’ve been protecting him the whole year and now it’s big boy time." “With the off day tomorrow, going in there, I knew I was going to be aggressive. With the top of the lineup (and) their best hitters again, I felt like [he] was the right match up. This time of year, you have to expect it."
  20. Why does going to a better pitcher in the 5th FORCE you to use a worse pitcher in late innings? There's nothing to say he couldn't use precisely those 3 pitchers to get 13 outs. And even if not, why is that necessarily bad? For example, let's say he went to Varland against the 7-8-9 hitters in the 7th. Is that a poor utilization of bullpen pitchers?
  21. Mediocre hack Joey Gallo had more bWAR than Matt Wallner in his age 25-26 seasons. So...what does that make Wallner? I fear a lot of you are in for a rude awakening with Matt. He's not as bad as he was in the first couple weeks. But his incredible stretch was driven by a 500 babip. He's going to be playable, but he's not going to be a star with his K rate and poor defense. There will be times he can win the game with his bat. And there will be 3 week stretches where you're cursing his name. His career babip is 360. We should not expect that to hold. He's going to hit 235 next year.
  22. I've realized this season, Twins fans, largely, are just too nice. This writeup is a great example of that. You're in what is essentially a must win game and it's making excuses for bringing in what is probably the twins 8th best reliever. You say it's reasonable to not want to use your high leverage relievers but offer no explanation as to why. If he wanted to go to the bullpen I can be talked into it, although he could have very easily walked Duran and instantly already been a better move than using Irvin. But there's no reason you can't go to Thielbar. Or Sands. Or Jax. Or, yes, even Duran. I've heard criticism here that Rocco is wrong for not having clear roles but I don't agree with that at all. If you can't use your best reliever at any point, you've failed as a manager. With a day off on Monday, I think going to the bullpen is right, but everyone here calling for Sands displays better instincts than a major league manager.
  23. The Mets don't have a great bullpen. But they have a manager that is utilizing them well. Last night, the Mets played as if they were in a must win game and brought in what fans would consider probably their third best reliever in to start the 5th and managed to get two innings. It's fascinating watching a manager with good instincts versus one with none.
  24. On that we disagree. Why be content with something we agree is bad, just because you're afraid it can get worse? New ownership often tries to prove themselves, make an impact. Whether that is good or bad, is unknown but all we know about the pohlads 40 year philosophy is that they worship the almighty dollar. They couldn't care less about the Twins baseball product. Never have.
