  1. The hope for 2026 before the teardown was just as, if not more, foolish. These hot prospects will almost certainly be burdens more than benefits next year. That's as true now as it was last week. So where was the hope for 2026 otherwise? An older Correa? A healthier Buxton?
  2. I've said as much that he doesn't really excite me. But I am still significantly higher on him than Austin Martin, and that is likely not an opinion that is shared by many people on this website.
  3. The only one that the Twins should (and have) given up on is Miranda. He's a bust. 1000 chances and he just wasn't good enough. Larnach, similarly, has been given the chances and while fine, has shown he's not good enough to put in any near or long term plans but decent enough to just hang around if it works out. Wallner...I'm tempted to say the same but still leaving some hope there that he just becomes the DH or maybe 1B and contributes, but I have nowhere near enough confidence to consider him part of the plans either.
  4. Yes, but I disagree on soon. Obviously this season is lost and all these players should be able to rest assured their performance doesn't really matter for the following days lineup. But I would mostly say that's true of next year too. Not completely, of course, you're resetting the standings, and crazier things have happened than a team you expect to be bad playing well, but no crazy moves are happening with the intention of competing in 2026. This team is learning and building towards 2027.
  5. The Twins are currently in the unenviable position where they can allow young players to just flounder for week long stretches. The community here is often completely contradictory. People seemingly both want the Twins young players given the chance to fail at the major league level so they can learn and grow (as if Trevor Larnach's 1500 PAs haven't told us much of his abilities) but also want to give up on players as soon as they have a 1-20 stretch. Which is it!? This prevalent idea that Roden's 100+ plate appearances have proven he is a bust is just wild to me. Give him another 100 this season, and at least another 300 next season (I promise you there's enough playing time to go around). Then we can talk about how he fits into the 2027 picture.
  6. Are we giving up on Lee too? He has more than 4x as many PAs as Roden and about 2x as many as Martin. He's barely been given fewer chances than Julien (823 v 527) and has actually hit significantly worse.
  7. He didn't impress you in 12 innings, so he's out of chances in your mind?
  8. Well then people had terrible expectations of what sort of caliber of MLB ready talent the Twins could receive in return for trade deadline moves.
  9. Fair. But I also keep hearing from people on this very website that you need to let the kids play and fail to learn and grow. His strikeout issues are a bit weird in the bigs because he's had very good K and BB rates in the minors, including AAA. As for his defense, it's significantly superior to Larnach and Wallner as well as last year's Austin Martin, but that hasn't stopped fans from insisting all year that Austin Martin should get another chance in the bigs (which I now agree with since the immediate goals of the team have changed). Player A Player B Age 25.6 26.4 AAA K% 12.6 14.5 AAA BB% 11.9 16.4 AAA ISO 0.185 0.109 AAA OPS 0.917 0.816 Minors OPS 0.866 0.764 OF JUMP 33.2 32.0 LF OAA 2 -3 Arm Strength 88.6 87.0 Sprint Speed 27.9 28.3
  10. There seems to be a lesson here about many very effective arms being readily available to stick in your bullpen. Almost like...teams, and more importantly their fans, shouldn't stress too much about the long term viability of their existent bullpen arms.
  11. Everyone keeps ignoring Roden. Before the deadline folks here were asking for major league ready position players to help the team right away in 2026, and Roden is exactly that type of player. But now that the Twins have received that type of player, no one wants to see him on the team.
  12. OK. That also means no Harrison Baders or Michael A Taylors. No Buxtons either if we're not concerned about defense when viewing prospects. 25 year old with a career 700 OPS? BUM.
  13. He just got into yet another twitter spat, this time with Jeff Passan. I don't think Doug would be able to handle the job. He seems to lack the maturity or leadership you would need in that level of position.
  14. FIP and WAR with is nice and all, and may be most indicative of pitching performance, but if you actually look at the totality of run prevention the Twins are 16th in ERA in that time and 17th in Runs Allowed and Win Percentage Added. They're actually 14th in runs in that same time frame.
  15. That sort of thinking is how you end up with a team of Mirandas, Juliens, Larnachs, and Wallners. How'd that turn out again?
  16. I don't think this is clear at all. Before the trade deadline I said here that it would wise to: 1) trade all expiring contracts that anyone wants (obviously) 2) try to get a team like the Yankees or Phillies to just take Correa and eat 1/3 of his contract 3) sell 2 of the 3 of Duran, Jax, Stewart 4) see if anyone would take Topa or even Tonkin As we saw 1, 2, and 3 all came true and seeing it all unfold it was then, if reporting is accurate, that Jax requested to be traded as well. So that really only leaves Varland as the unexpected trade, and if you take a step back and ignore the human side of him being a Minnesota kid, that trade is completely defensible. If you were told 6 months ago that Varland would be traded for 2 of another organization's Top 10 prospects we all would have been elated. A run of success in the bullpen doesn't change that for me.
  17. I've also read the power consumption issue with Ai is overblown. Read it compared to a hamburger, and God knows I'm not quitting hamburgers. My issues are mainly accuracy (none) and the fact that it's driven by a bunch of loser dweebs in California just destroying the world out of pure greed.
  18. I can imagine Jax has been unhappy with the Twins since he was plainly told he would not be given a chance to compete for the starting rotation again. Imagine you in your job applied for an internal promotion and were flatly told you would never receive an interview. Good luck to him, and if he still wants to, I hope he gets that chance next spring with the Rays.
  19. No offense my guy, but this makes no sense. Everyone wanted to see this team build off 2023 (I'm guessing you included) but you're now retroactively advocating for Rocco to have let the team be worse intentionally.
  20. With the exception of Austin Martin, all these players WERE given a lot of chances in the bigs. That's why I don't get this specific complaint.
  21. You're mistaken. When the Mets sold two future hall of fame pitchers under control in the 2023 season, Mets fans, myself included, looked at the returns and, while they weren't great, began thinking of the team objectively and how those pieces fit into the new roster. Acuna isn't that good, but he's a role player and improves the team. Would I be happy with the Mets, trying to win a world series had Roden penciled in as their starting LF? No. But I was happy with Drew Gilbert in return for Verlander, and Drew Gilbert is about the same player as Alan Roden. Not quite good enough a hitter to be a great corner nor good enough defense to be a CF. But good enough to be valuable. And also, a piece that was ultimately Gilbert was traded for a bullpen arm when the team was ready to push for it. Roden in my mind is a new Verdugo type. And the Yankees just went to the WS last year with Verdugo as their LF. So, I refuse to **** on the Twins returns and instead will look at them objectively. Now, if you ask me if I would have made that specific trade? Probably not, but not because I value Varland. Moreso because I think it'd be easier to throw him in as the closer retain his value then flip him next year, and that takes away stress from a FULL bullpen reset.
  22. I'm not gonna suggest he's a high ceiling future all star. Toronto has a group of these decent out fielders and his loss, especially considering his struggles in the final jump to the majors, won't be felt in their playoff push. But the other fact is...he's already a better bet than Larnach in LF and 3 years younger. He feels like a 1.5-2.0 WAR player with the possible upside of a 2.5 win player. Larnachs defense is so bad his upside is only 1.5 wins. Now, is Roden exciting? No. And he may not be around in' 27 if both Jenkins and Rodriguez continue their development and become strong contributors. But he is a good insurance plan if one of them, or Gonzalez or whomever falters.
