Last year 3 of the 6 AL teams that made the playoffs had a LOWER payroll than the Twins. It’s not about payroll. It’s all about player development and solid coaching. Something Rocco never brought to the table with his BS analytics. Don’t agree- tell me when the last time the NY Yankees won a World Series with their $240 million payroll. I truly believe we have more talent on this team than people realize. With the proper coaching staff stressing fundamentals on defense as well as at the plate I believe we could be very competitive. For all you naysayers - when was the last time our hitters were taught to take an outside pitch to the opposite field instead of pulling the ball!

Yes, sure, by all means trade them. Then kiss any chance of contending for the next 4-5 years goodbye. Have fun attracting any free agents to a team that will be destined to have multiple back to back losing seasons. Even worse, as long as Baldelli and his coaching staff are still in charge you can forget about developing any young players acquired in trades. Just expect more of the same, poor hitting, horrible defense and overall sloppy undisciplined play.

Perhaps Baldelli and Maki should quit calling pitches from the dugout and let the catcher call the game. Seems to me the catcher has a better feel for the pitchers stuff that particular day than Baldelli’s computer does.

He’s with Oakland and pretty much only DH’s because he is mediocre if not poor in the field. I don’t consider that solid player development.

I couldn’t agree more. How many position players have come up from the minors and actually panned out during Baldelli’s 7 years? Name just one. Baldelli cannot develop players, period.

Why is it every talented player they bring up from the minors turns out to be underdeveloped and expendable - one word, Baldelli! The worst manager in all of baseball.

When a team is struggling to produce runs you need a manager who knows how to manufacture one. Sadly, Baldelli hasn't a clue.

The Twins don't desperately need position players- they desperately need a new manager who can develop the talent we have. We supposedly have the 2nd best farm system in the majors. Why is it when we have been calling up those kids the past 8 years they don't perform at the ML level? Baldelli and staff.

Ridiculous article. Lee has been moved all over the infield and never given a chance to play ss day in and day out. The number of games he has played at ss at the major league level cannot be more than 15. To judge him on these few games is absolutely ridiculous. Play him every day at short and watch his confidence build both in the field and at the plate. Enough of the Rocco platooning bs. Let the kid play every day and watch him become an exceptional ss.

After the lack of hustle shown by Julien I would have sent him back down to the minors immediately after the game. As for Kiersey, how in the world can a “major leaguer” not know how to bunt. His form was atrocious. Barrel up! Not down. Don’t punch at the ball, let it come to you. I blame Baldelli and the rest of the organization for the lack of basic fundamentals this ball club has. It starts with Baldelli as he should be preaching the teaching of basic fundamentals to all of his minor league coaches as well as working on them at the ML level.

They also need to find a manager who knows how to manage! The fact that 10 players on the 26 man roster were traded tells you that yes, indeed, we did have some talent. The problem is that we have a manager who is incompetent and has no clue how to use players properly.

I know I won’t be there until Falvey and Baldelli are gone. For the last 40 years I have averaged 17 games per year. No longer. Trading these pitchers for prospects who our manager has no idea how to develop was the last straw. This organization is pathetic.

Unbelievable! Just when I though this organization couldn't get any more stupid, they trade Varland, Jax, Columbe, Stewart and Duran. Top it off with Castro. Falvey is a complete incompetent idiot! I understand France, Bader and Correa but I don't understand how in the hell you trade 5 pitchers out of your bullpen.

To hell with the purse strings argument. Last year three AL teams with lower payrolls made the playoffs. The problem isn’t with money, it is with Baldelli and his damn analytics. The absolute worst manager in all of baseball. Name one, just one, rookie who he has developed into a decent player in his 8 years. He overthinks everything. He has ZERO baseball sense. He doesn’t do anything to give confidence to his young players. It’s not the money, it’s the piece of junk we have as a manager. I can’t wait to see how these new prospects pan out. Guarantee they will never be good under Baldelli.

My issue is the lack of consistency from day to day, not just with the batting order but position play.

Hey Rocco- how’s that “opener”stuff working out for you? What are we, about at a .100 winning percentage using it. Keep up the great analytics!

Only 154 different lineups last year. Same old stuff this year. No wonder this team lacks defense and fire power. No consistency provided by the manager whatsoever.

I don't disagree at all with your take on Falvey and his baseball philosophy. I still can’t believe Baldelli is the guy. For example- last year he used 154 different starting lineups with the same line up being used in back to back games 6 times. Yes, there were injuries but my issue is that the inconsistency Baldelli creates doesnt help the players. That’s on Baldelli and not Falvey. I hope the new ownership cleans house.

They aren’t winning with them because of exactly what you stated - they haven’t developed a position player worth a darn. What makes you think trading these pitchers for prospects will turn out any different? Perhaps it is time to look at the lack of development of our young players and question why they aren’t panning out. I say it’s on Baldelli and the coaching staff. I would love to see if the results with these young position players would be better if we had a different manager before I would trade away three excellent pitchers.
-
Ok all you gung- ho let’s trade Duran, Jax and Ryan fans. Who the hell are you going to replace them with? We have been in dire need of pitching, have finally got three bonafide major leaguers performing very well and under control for 2-3 more years and we are now going to get rid of them for prospects! Duh!
