  1. It is not 'more than a credible take'. The Twins have been pinching pennies for the last 6 months. How is it credible to suggest that they would suddenly do a complete 180 and trade their top prospect(s) for a pitcher that will command a huge raise in the off-season?
  2. I wonder what the corresponding move is for Dobnak... With Festa starting, and after the pen's usage last night, Dobnak makes sense.
  3. When the discussion pivots to trading Jenkins and Rodriguez, its moving the goal posts completely out of the stadium. I don't think anyone condones that especially because there's no one available that would justify such a dramatic trade. However, teams are making moves and they're not trading their top prospects.
  4. They won't shed payroll but they will not add anyone. The front office, and by no means will I blame them for this because their hands are tied, will have to get in front of the cameras and talk about how Correa and Topa returning from the IL is better than any trade they could have made.
  5. Additional context. I'm sure some will defend the Pohlad's but I can't bring myself to do it when literally every other team in baseball is doing something - whether its contenders shoring up their team for the stretch run or teams trying to rebuild for the future. As noted, Oakland is one of two teams in the league to do exactly nothing thus far. The other is Minnesota. The Twins have spent much of the season in comfortable playoff position and are said to be working with payroll limitations (just as they were in the offseason), but their complete silence on the trade front is nevertheless surprising. Minnesota has been eyeing rental arms for the back of the rotation and could look for another outfield bat or reliever, but thus far the reigning AL Central champs have simply stood pat. They’re 5.5 games back of the division lead — a closeable gap in theory, but so far they’ve watched the Central-leading Guardians add Lane Thomas in a trade with the Nationals and the third-place Royals make multiple veteran acquisitions without doing anything to improve their own club.
  6. Two teams have yet to make a trade. The Twins and the A's. Staumont's going to turn into a pumpkin and Stewart should still be on the IL. The bullpen's a glaring weakness at this point - even with Topa nearing a return. SWR's got a bright future, but relying on him as the 4th starter and Festa / Paddack as the 5th starter in the middle of a pennant race is questionable at best. The Pohlad's aren't serious about winning. It is what it is. There was every opportunity this season for the Twins to build off the momentum in 2023 and legitimately compete in a year where the American League lacks a truly dominant team. Barring a miraculous run, the 2024 season will go down as one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory. The pennant was there for the taking and ownership was more concerned about pinching pennies. That's malpractice.
  7. I don't expect them to find someone better than Pablo, Ryan or Ober. But upgrades over SWR, Festa and Paddack. That should be the goal.
  8. No, I didn't. What trades do you think I'm referring to? Make moves around the margins. It's what contenders try to do.
  9. The Twins might miss the playoffs entirely...
  10. We need to upgrade from the likes of Thielbar, Okert, Staumont, Festa, Paddack. You honestly think there are no better options than the those players?
  11. One of these days, the Twins are going to beat the Yankees. Admittedly, that day might not be until the 2030s but eventually it will happen.
  12. Can't wait to hear about the internal reinforcements that are just as good as a trade.
  13. Seemed to be one of the more realistic targets. Looks like the Twins will sit this deadline out.
  14. Of note. Per Dan Hayes, Dodgers called the Twins to check on Duran. Twins were asking for 'too much'.
  15. Also, if they added a player of substance, whatever money they take on in salary, they're getting it back and then some from a rejuvenated fan base that will show up over the next 2 months as well as from an extended playoff run.
  16. Jim Pohlad's worth almost $4 billion. More than Hal Steinbrenner. This isn't about being a small market team. It's not about a lack of TV revenue. Some owners take pride in their product and invest in it. Others cry poverty. We know what group the Pohlad's fall into as of today. If they want to change the narrative, they'll make a trade that moves the needle. If they truly don't give a crap, and I suspect they don't, we'll hear about internal reinforcements and saving prospect capital.
  17. As an aside... It's wild to me how hated Correa is in this area. Might be public enemy #1 for Yankee fans. Wore a Correa shirt in Newark airport last week and was greeted with a handful of hecklers including a TSA agent who said he shouldn't let me through if I'm a Correa fan. The Yanks need to quit crying about 2017 and 2019.
  18. Don't believe Correa accompanied the Twins on the road trip... SWR pitching against the team that drafted him, IIRC. Let's get the W tonight and some help from the Tigers!
  19. I'm a bit of a sentimentalist, so I'd be sad to see Max go even though he's not in the team's long-term plans. Crazy to think that he's the only one left from the Bomba squad in 2019. Team fizzled out in October but that regular season was a blast.
  20. I wonder what the market is for Duran...
  21. Wouldn't be shocked if Falvey and Levine move Kepler to free up some salary so that they can upgrade the rotation and/or bullpen.
