  1. …while the Vikings are in a playoff game..:) I actually did try to follow the game thread here, even though I am not specifically a Vikes fan. It was fun to see Twins fans I know here suffering through a big Vikings game.
  2. Okay, you guys had a break there (I’m a regular here as a Twins fan, but a little torn when the Giants play the Vikes).
  3. Also, not claiming Leo Cardenas was the best, but sooo steady, with a solid bat. Thompson’s 1972 season was promising enough that it almost helped us forget Leo. The rest is pretty tragic history.
  4. As a New York commentator said last week, Boras has every incentive to build up a good relationship with Mets owner Steve Cohen, given that he is now the MLB owner most willing to throw money around to Boras’s clients. The failure to cinch the Correa deal is indeed an odd one.
  5. Also became hooked in 1967. After that great pennant race, I said, “Wait ‘til next year.” It then took us 20 years to finally meet the Cardinals in the World Series. Worth the wait…
  6. Happened to me, too. I became a long-distance Twins fan in New Jersey at age 10 because of my brother. As an adult, he moved to New England and became a Red Sox fan. But because he wears only a David Ortiz jersey, I’m left without too much to say.
  7. Very insightful article all Twins fans should read. Thanks! I guess Ortiz did use the next five years to sound a little less self-absorbed in his Hall of Fame induction speech.
  8. Out here in New York, I agree. Signing the guy to play third base since they already have a superior shortstop? Of course, it reminds one of A-Rod signing with the Yankees to play third base. (Not suggesting here that Carlos is A-Rod; but it is surprising that the money meant more than aspiring to be the best shortstop in baseball). Maybe he does have a physical issue that he worries about.
  9. Hey, how about ancient history? I never thought Roy Smalley would be a hitter, so I disliked the Blyleven trade more than I should have.
  10. 40 Years? Let’s keep out the Biblical analogies. It makes it worse than it is.
  11. Great insight about how analytics made football and basketball more exciting and baseball more dull.
  12. Not a fan of analytics, and I know little about Michael Lewis, but this is definitely worth a listen. I also thank you for the timing because an hour ago I came in with a basket of laundry to fold, wondering what podcast I should listen to while I go about it?
  13. Road pinstripes good, TC cap good; everything else bad.
  14. Dependent on Ryan Pressly.
  15. Yes, that’s the weird part: As I remember it, Maddon used to be Exhibit A of a manager who incorporated analytics.
  16. Truly fascinating, and at the same time familiar and depressing. Thanks for this.
  17. I do play softball tomorrow with my White Sox fan friend. We’ll commiserate. But, yeah, I’ll root for the Guardians.
  18. Thank you, my companions! Especially the Game Thread leaders! I actually pay less attention to the offseason; I’m not a GM at heart.
  19. Just saw a TV image of Correa, Ryan, and Arraez, and I realize, I’ll miss them in the offseason. But it is time for a break from this season. I do follow the playoffs somewhat but don’t have the TV packages to do it closely until the World Series.
  20. Oh, I missed all the good stuff—no excuses, I took on a nap on a rainy day in NYC on my day off. Now I’m going to see the bad stuff to take me into the offseason. ?
  21. For what it is worth (not much, I concede) I didn’t like Quilici, Molitor, or Baldelli as managers. What did they have in common? Lack of managing experience as high as the minor league level. And in Baldelli’s case, we seem agreed that he hasn’t learned a whole lot by managing a major league team.
  22. Shockingly good article!
  23. But, in fairness, he acted beautifully to win us over when he first signed (when we [me, at least] were still in absolute shock)—calling it Buxton’s team and all that. And then by being a hustling and good teammate. As for cheating, yeah, I may have booed him, but I also realize that ball players are always tempted to take the edge when offered. The question was to what degree he was a ringleader.
