  1. Sort of depends on roster construction and managerial philosophy. Current trends, esp with Rocco, is/was to just rotate players through the DH slot without any real consideration for whether they actually “hit” or not. Sort of the opposite of the “professional hitter” days of Jim Thome or Nelson Cruz. For the record I prefer having the player occupying the DH slot actually being an average (or above) hitting threat, not just another sub-average interchangeable part of the “anyone can play anywhere, anytime “ roster approach this FO has had in recent years.
  2. Appreciate all the thoughtful comments. We could debate what metrics determine “relevance “ all day. I would add that, growing up in the Twin Cities in the 1960’s and 70’s my family and my cohort would have some connection to the team all season. We knew who was starting that day, who was hitting, who wasn’t, etc. WCCO would be on someone’s radio in the background and the games were part of the ambiance. Fast forward 50 years and I can’t imagine (most) Twins “fans” attempting to stay connected on that level. Someone comps them tickets, they buy some merchandise to fit in, they get a glimpse, then they return to the million other things competing for their attention. It was a thing they “did” then moved on. Likely the same dynamic in most markets. But what makes the Twins irrelevant IMO is the sheer apathy of this market and its media outlets. The Twins are irrelevant largely because they’re expected to be. We have an ownership group and business model that seems to do its best to alienate baseball fans. Mission accomplished.
  3. Good luck, FO, on next year’s marketing plan for this mess. I’ve been around since the 1960’s and I struggle to remember being more disappointed in this franchise. I’m sure there’s been lower points in their history but I’ve never been more disinclined to pay up to watch the Twins.
  4. Cabrera. Not long for the Bigs.
  5. Twins getting after a lefty, that’s new.
  6. Little Vlad is an adventure out there.
  7. Probably covered elsewhere, but is it likely Julien shows enough to draw some (any?) trade interest over the next month? I can’t really comprehend that he’s part of the plan for 2026. Assuming there is one.
  8. Another sad PA from Royce. I’ve wanted so bad to be optimistic about him but I’m nearly done.
  9. “And we’ll see you tomorrow night!” That will echo through eternity.
  10. I can’t believe that jump he got off 1st
  11. Wally base hit off a lefty with 2 strikes. Thats a good sign.
  12. Just heard last night’s post game interview- it’s easy to root for Gasper. Whether or not he belongs on a MLB roster I don’t know. But he seems like the kind of guy I’d have a beverage with.
  13. Yeah unless he’s throwing knuckle balls that ain’t going to work
  14. Just continuing this run of really bad baseball. And Falvey and Rocco getting paid regardless. Getting paid A LOT by the standards of an average guy like me.
  15. The Dead Cat Bounce after the fire sale was nice, but I’m prepared for this to be the norm for the “entertainment value “ of this team with this FO and Manager (they’re tied at the hip) for the foreseeable future.
  16. Says a lot about roster construction and modern baseball. Complete nonsense.
  17. I’m all for slowing down the hype train and managing expectations. Luke’s got a long way to go. But I just watched him being interviewed on MLB and he said something that sounded really profound, especially when you consider the frustrating hitting approaches that we lament about sometimes. When he was asked about what he’s looking for when he goes up to the plate, he said something like “depends on the pitcher”, and “you go up there looking for what the pitcher wants to throw, not what you want him to throw”. I might not have it perfect but that’s the essence of it. Seems very different, and I’m encouraged by it, than the players who seem completely neutralized unless they get “their” pitch in that one location.
  18. Yeah it really wouldn’t have taken much to be in the thick of it.
  19. Morny not adding value to my experience tonight
  20. That post fire sale surge was awesome. Now back to (the new?) reality.
  21. God Bless these guys. Having fun. Playing well. I’m thankful for however long it lasts.
