Looks like they are hoping for a minimal IL stay, missing a couple of starts. Zebby would be the logical replacement with Sunday being five days from his last start on 4/8. He has done well, deserving the call-up. As the article states, Dobnak has certainly earned it as well, but it would be with him getting an extra day of rest if he was to be chosen: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/twins-likely-to-place-former-all-star-on-il/ar-AA1CDz4s

So we are hoping for the expedited return of Brooks Lee who had an OPS in the 550s last season, 600s in 40+ spring training plate appearances and went 1 for 6 in two minor league games. Maybe he makes the play at 2B not made by Gaspar tonight. However, I sure hope no one believes he is the spark to ignite an uncompetitive offense.

Gaspar was given a roster spot due to two infielder injuries and a good spring training. It's not like he is the first infielder to earn a few reps with the team for a short stint and then move along to other things. Three walks and a double is a good game for any lead-off hitter. Too bad he never scored, although Kiersey did as a pinch runner for him. Any chance Castro makes it back to back seasons for the All Star Team?

I see Julien had his first error of the regular season yesterday at 2B.......this made him the perfect candidate to move over the last inning to shortstop where he made no errors! Talk about solving two problems with one move, eh? Although he is so far hitless for the season.....sigh.

Horribly ugly game. Almost as ugly series overall. Decision on choice for the 26th roster spot......well, whodathunkit, but so far it is looking like a good move.....

2025 Sire of Fort Myers Coronation
Althebum82 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love this recurring feature and the detailed analysis that comes with it! The choice is definitely most worthy, and hopefully this spring training performance is a precursor to a productive major league career, ideally mostly with the Twins.- 14 replies

Get To Know Jeferson Morales
Althebum82 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fun story. He added another hit today putting in some time at 2B! Strikeouts have been in issue this spring, but that is only one way he should not to be confused with La Tortuga....he also has a stolen base. No doubt he has made a good impression and will need to keep up the good work in Saint Paul and see if an opportunity arises for him. -
Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: Right Field
Althebum82 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can see it now as Wallner is making his acceptance speech in Canton, OH, having hit 800 career home runs and registered 150 career WAR. "My only regret is MinnInPA on the TwinsDaily forums never became a believer because I wasn't able to put up 7 consecutive seasons with a 1.200 OPS AND simultaneously get below 25% strike out rates. Will someone please notify the McKinley Resting Place that Matt Wallner is planning to make an acceptance speech someday down the road? -
Spring Training Games, Week of 3/9 - 3/15
Althebum82 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Interestingly, when I tried to look up Winokur it looks like he has been identified as OF in all of his other transactions listings. No defensive stats were listed, so I was curious if SS is just a spring training experiment or if it is his actual regular position. After all, Miranda shows as a SS for most of his transaction history, so it would not surprise me if the OF designation for Winookur was similarly bogus..... -
Definitely not a surprise on Dobnak. It still sucks that it has to happen on a day that he throws three shutout innings (just as he did in his only other spring training appearance), though. It would look better deserved if he had met expectations and gotten blown up for an inning or two.

Watched the game on ESPN today and saw De Andrade make a good play but a rough throw to Sabato for an error. I have a feeling no matter who is a shortstop this year we will be reminded how good we had it with Santana at first for a season.

Spring Training Game Thread, Week of 3/2 - 3/8

Man, Julien looked completely disoriented against Leiter. To be fair, Lee wasn't much better, but I sure hope Julien has been getting better appearances than that this spring. -
Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: First Base
Althebum82 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know he is in spring training again, but it sure seems generous to include Sabato as a prospect any more after four years in the system and struggling at AA level last year., his highest level of competition. I, too, was taken aback by the instant proclamation of France's role as projected starter at this position. Good analysis of a position that is sadly filled with a lot of options with shortcomings to start the year.- 28 replies

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: Catcher
Althebum82 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great observation on the impact of pitchers dealing with experienced, dependable catchers. It is an intangible which is hard to quantify but important nonetheless. At this time last year I was hopeful for the futures of Camargo and Cardenas. Then both hit the skids pretty hard last season. Can't say there is really any reason for excitement at this position presently.- 31 replies

Nobody has so far projected Castellano to be the next coming of Johan Santana. If he is, then trade away whatever pitching talent is necessary to keep him and develop him as needed (including Alcala) because he is certainly worth it. In reality, no other Rule 5 pick by this franchise has had an impact beyond a single season, and at this point there is little anticipation that this one will be any different. I do not expect Alcala to be at AAA to start the season. He may be traded based on how he was handled last year, but otherwise I expect him to survive at least to opening day on a big league roster someplace and hopefully with the Twins.

No intrigue from me on Canha. He is not a solution to anything, we don't need any "almost league average" dead weight.

Not only should this guy not be confused with Jose Berrios, he probably should also not have his name highlighted in the story, otherwise he will be confused with a 67 year old former MLB first baseman when you click on his name: Jose Barrios, SS, Venezuela ($850,000)

Why Severinio and Williams would want to stay in the organization is a bit baffling. They aren’t even giving them a chance. Not sure if Williams wanted to stay, but the fact is that he has actually moved on to the Mets after signing a minor league free agent deal with them last month.

What's Left at First Base in Free Agency?
Althebum82 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The fact that Solano and Gallo have already done a tour of duty with this ballclub is reason enough to remove their names from the list. Watch Chris Williams catch on fire next year with the Mets as Alonso signs elsewhere and the Twins diddle around with 12 different guys covering 1B in 2025. Same thing at DH as well. I really do not see a workable solution on the identified free agent list. Jeez, am I a Debbie Downer or what?- 81 replies

At this time last year I had high hopes for Camargo and Cardenas, but both significantly regressed last season. Chris Williams continues to show offensive promise but has now given up on the Twins and has chosen free agency. He will get the obvious invite to spring training someplace, but he has yet to show himself worthy of being trusted defensively at the big league level during games that count. It is hard for me to get excited about trade scenarios for Vazquez. Nobody else is going to want to pay him what the Twins are.
