  1. Are you sure that platoon means the same thing to both of you? Old time platoon was 2 guys, one position. So if you ask him about platoons, of course he is going to say no. If you asked him about building a roster with player flexibility you might have a different answer. He did trade for Punto and Gardenhire started him multiple positions.
  2. Barry Zito had some very good years.
  3. A proven ability to miss the ball with a k% of 34% at AA and 38% at AAA Kris Davis led the majors last year with a K% of 32.9%. In AAA he was closer to 25% Walker would defy all odds to improve to even a league worse 32% K rate. Walker would shatter Mark Reynolds record of 223 strikeouts for a season playing full time. The odds of a career milb .250 hitter being that productive in the majors is remote. Walker's KATOH after his AA season projected him to be a 2.5 WAR player through 6 years of mlb ball. His AAA season would not likely improve that score as his power numbers went down. He likely will stay on the 40 man roster as he is valuable for the minor leagues.
  4. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-roster-construction-timeline-gfx-20161007-htmlstory.html If anyone ever thinks that roster turnover can't be done. Sign and release until you find some keepers
  5. Boshers for sure. For many people Plouffe, Centeno, then Walker (which would inspire a limited run update thread like Arcia or Benson) would not cause much pause O'Rourke and Wimmers have few fans. Tonkin and Santiago leaving would delight a couple of people.
  6. Albers and Dean are what they are. Disaster plans. Their performance was about what you should expect from the pedigree. There needs to be some sort of better way to describe reliever effectiveness. I am sure there is a double secret equation that teams use. Inherited runners scored should factor in it. Blown leads, blown ties are much more important than era. What percentage of the time is the reliever effective.
  7. Jorge Polanco has a woba of .326. Last year that would put him as 15th best hitting 2b. It makes it tough to trade him as a significant upgrade over what someone else already has. Trading him as a cheap alternative player wouldn't bring back a significant prospect. Play and develop him as a SS or hope that a team falls in love with Dozier and well pay a fair price. Shortstop seems far more likely
  8. Trading Dozier could be a great idea. For a near top of rotation arm is another great idea. That takes a team with a need for a 2b, and arm to trade. Hate to be a nugatory person, it is not happening. The number of quality 2B on competitive teams are numerous. A rebuilding team would not want Dozier for the same reason people here want to trade him.
  9. What difference does it make what "number" starter a pitcher is? If healthy they pitch in 33-34 games a year. Team gets into the post season it still doesn't matter what number they are, see Price, David. Kershaw also. That is why Santiago is labeled as a pitcher with a pulse.
  10. Since players on the 60 day dl have to come off the dl, the Twins need to dfa 2 to start with Albers and Dean. Additions Garver and/or Turner, Vielma, Granite, Felix Jorge, Fernando Romero, Lewis Thorpe and maybe Wheeler That is 6 to eight. Nine if you count leaving room for a rule 5. , Sukuki will be a free agent. There is one slot. Boshers and Millone (along with Albers and Dean) are all pitchers that could sign a minor league contract. Shaffer, Beresford, and Centeno (as Murphy might have more of an upside) are all players that could be signed to a minor league deal with an invite. That is five slots. Danny, it was nice to know you.. Santana might need to have an advocate to stay on the roster. That is seven slots Decision time on a few other players, Grossman stays if you believe you can either trade him or teach him to field the ball better. I wouldn't quite count him out just yet. Arb eligible, Plouffe and Santiago. An exchange of contract proposals ought to be enough to determine non tender status. Plouffe was paid 7.25 million. Great for 2 WAR plus players, way too much money for a replacement player. Moving on from Plouffe frees up another spot as I do not think Plouffe will go backwards with money. I do not recall if it happens where a player signs a decreased contract with a team. Plouffe goes makes the eight slot. Santiago is a pitcher with a pulse. He will stay. If they think they need a slot for a rule 5 player they need to cut one more. Tonkin is a grip away from being good I don't think he should be moved off the 40 man roster None of the 22 year old players should be removed from the 40 man. That leaves 2 other possibilities. Melotakis and Walker. Melotakins should be given one more year. Poower lefties are valuable. Adam Brett Walker goes away if you think there is a better prospect out there. He also goes away if you think Palka has a better chance in the majors. I think that as Walker has never cracked anybody's top 100 list the brass would decide to risk lexposing both Palka and Walker to rule 5 draft so they can take one.
  11. This team had playoff hopes like every other team does at the start of spring training. If everybody bounced back from off years. If the rookies from the year before progressed, if a couple pitchers step up their game the team would stand a chance for the playoffs. Perkins and Hughes not being right in camp was the first indication that there was not going to be hope for playoffs. When the battle for the last rotation spot was decided by who was not the worst , that should have removed all doubt it was not going to be their year. 12 games out of first place, 3 behind with 2 teams to bass to get into the playoffs fits the term contention. Also miracles
  12. September call ups. Parmelee is a good example of not trusting one month sample sizes. Nothing would have been gained by having Walker get every AB that the callup recieved
  13. Last year the Twins overachieved. I guess none of that was influenced by Molitor. There is nothing saying that Molitor can not learn from his mistakes this year. There is also nothing that says Molitor can learn from his mistakes.
  14. Maybe the Twins should hire McDowell and give up a can of tuna or two for Miller
  15. Maybe the Braves will hire Stewart so the Twins can trade Santana for Swanson
  16. With anyone that is a decent pitcher having an option you are failing to prove anything but bust with the free agent class. Thinking that anyone on that list is going to outduel the likes of Kluber or Verlander on a consistent basis is in need of a competency evaluation
  17. That is an unique way to respond to the alleged problem of players being better away from the Twins' coaching. They have had more revenue. The record this year or any other year has absolutely nothing to do with players being allegedly better away from here. Is Brian Duensing now a better post season pitcher because he is in Baltimore rather than the Twins?
  18. When the mood strikes to rant about the poor coaching, various posters will point out all of the former Twins who performed better after leaving here, Fien, Guerra, and Nolasco would be the latest additions to the list
  19. There seems to be a fascination here about labeling pitchers 1,2,3,4, or worse. One through four will all start the same number of games during the season. 1-4 really doesn't matter. You need 2 pitchers that can go out and win a game for you, keep you in the others. You need to have 2 pitchers that pitch well enough not to lose games. The best teams have 3 pitchers that can go out and win games. The Twins have Ervin.
  20. Are you trying to prove or disprove the bust portion of the list. Anyone who could be good has an option.
  21. Cherry picking 2 weeks of good numbers does not offset the month of June that you chose not to see Does a 65 WRC for June make you the second best hitter?.
  22. Good for Parmelee MVP award. There is a picture of him with a grin and an MYP trophy that is on twitter feed some site had posted that looks like they had a great party As SWB won about 90 games this year you may wish to consider SWB with a rotation of Montgomery, Cessa, Sevino, Enns and Green probably would beat the Twins in a series when denigrating them as AAAA players.
  23. Refining control has not happened under Allen. I really think he was Ryan's hire,. The other side of the coin is that he was well regarded as a minor league coach. Marty Mason was in the Cardinals organization a long time. Do coaches forget things when hired by the Twins, or is it an organizational philosophy on how to pitch that has become flawed?
  24. Blame Pohlad for the Nolasco signing because Ryan was told to do so? Other than say Molitor will be manager next year, what has Pohlad done. Given how many managers through the years have been fired after a vote of confidence. See Ryan's vote of confidence. That so many people put such strong faith in empty words is amazing. Eno should have spoken to as to what he knows, which is nothing.
  25. The Twins job has several limitations. The team with not a great potential for a cable deal will always be a lower budget team. Target Field already has more expensive seats than most, again I would not see revenue growth there. If the organization is seen as needing an overhaul that means you need to bring in more people. If you do not have a few people to bring in it means you have a few more unknowns to deal with. The potential for short term failure failure is greater than the potential for great success, what does that do for your career? Not just anyone is going to want the job.
