  1. Just a brutal game to watch. Only getting 4 hits in that mess, is abysmal. No way that Moran should be in that situation, I hate Pagan, but I would have thrown him in there. I honestly don't know what the deal is with Kep...he looks out of it at times, but he did hit the homer. He looks like he doesn't care anymore. The strikeouts are unbelievable! We're so lost at the plate, it's comical. We better figure out some things real soon, or we'll be doing the slow ride to never-never land again.
  2. It's early, but we absolutely have to figure out a way to hang with these top tier teams. At least be competitive and stay around .500 with them. We can't let them come in here and kick our butts, and we have to be able to go to their yard and do some kicking ourselves. Otherwise...we aren't going anywhere.
  3. Kepler sure isn't the answer, and Gallo isn't either. I don't really like Buxton at the 1 spot, but he'd be a much better alternative than Kep or Gallo. If Polanco can get back soon, I'd put him at leadoff and see what happens. Julien might be the guy down the road.
  4. Not buying it. I'd rather he was on another team. I hope he figures some things out while he's here, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  5. Has to be Duran. Lopez next, if Duran is unavailable. To even mention Pagan closing games, is beyond insane.
  6. My opinion is...nothing would please the general fan base, and many people that frequent this great website, more than our starters pitching well enough to go deeper in games. No one wants to see starters pulled after 3, 4, or 5 innings. It looks like we may finally have the pitchers to do that. Time will tell.
  7. Just saw they released Jeff Hoffman. Kind of a surprise.
  8. Gray is 100% right, but ultimately it's up to the pitcher to show that he can last more than 3-4-5 innings. If the pitcher is giving up hits/runs, giving up walks, has no command, and generally pitching lousy...he's not going to be in there very long. I sure would like to have this staff go at least 6 innings in most of their starts...that would mean that they're doing their job, and we're probably in the game. We'll see what happens this season.
  9. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'm in the camp that thinks that we're babying him just a little too much. I don't see why he's not out there in CF a few games during ST. If he can DH/bat, and run the bases, he can play the outfield. He could get a HBP and be out the whole season too. He got hurt last year sliding into 2nd base, not out in CF. Is he injury prone? Yep. He's sure proven that. I'd be willing to bet he comes up with something again this year that causes him to miss time. I don't think that's going to change. It can happen to anyone. Buxton should take some turns at DH...AND...play the field.
  10. I find it interesting, that these players that were more or less considered main pieces of our team last season...Sano, Sanchez, Archer, and Bundy...can't even swing a minor league deal with some team this year. Yes, Sano was hurt, but Sanchez was our regular catcher. He wasn't great, but he wasn't abysmal either. We trotted Archer and Bundy out to the mound all last season! Haven't heard a single thing about Sano, Sanchez, or Archer. Bundy just got a minor league deal with the Mets. Sano is the most surprising. I figured he would at least get some team taking a minor league flyer on him.
  11. I'm more than willing to give him a handful of starts in the regular season, and see what happens. Is it possible that he struggles? Sure, but let's make that decision down the road a bit. For now, it's a concern, but not overwhelmingly so. If he gets killed in his first 4-5 starts, then you have to pull him and get Ober, or someone else in there. I'm just as concerned with Mahle, as I am with Maeda. We've got some depth on the staff, but we still have some question marks right now.
  12. Can't wait to see him back with the team and playing. He deserves it after what he's been through. Back to back ACL's on the same knee, is just an incredibly bad coincidence. He's overdue for some good things to happen.
  13. Definitely concerned about Polanco's knee. It sure appears he's going to be IL when the season starts. It's not trending in the right direction. We have the depth to cover it, but it would be great to have Polo in there.
  14. I'm not taking a sip of any kool-aid until I see how the first 40-50 games go. I also want to see if Rocco has learned anything. Then, we'll see. If injuries don't blow us out of the water again, we should know something by then.
  15. I think Gallo is definitely the best overall option to play 1B, if Kirilloff can't go...and have the other guys in LF. My second choice would be to have Julien at 1B. Solano is best suited as a utility guy.
  16. I'm not a real fan of Gallo, but if he can somehow hit .225 or so, with 35 hr's, 90 ribbys, and 80 bb's...he'd be worth the flyer we took on him. Probably too much to ask for him to hit his weight. He'd win comeback player of the year. I suppose then he'd be looking for a big multi year contract either with us or someone else.
  17. If he can hit the way everyone seems to think he can...they're gonna have to find a spot for him. Who's to say his defense won't improve, if he works at it.
  18. At some point, KIrilloff has to get out there and see if he can play. Hopefully soon. If he hasn't even faced live pitching yet, he's got a ways to go. If Kirilloff can't make it, it'll probably be a different guy every game at first. I kind of like the Julien idea at 1B. That might be a great way to get his bat in the line up.
  19. I think at this point, Jeffers is what he is. A back up catcher and nothing more. I'd hate to have him as the main guy behind the plate. Vazquez is a big improvement over over Jeffers, and over Sanchez from last season.
  20. I'm not a Rocco guy at all, but I don't think there's any way that this FO puts the bag on him. He's exactly what they want. Would I like more of an old school kind of manager, who can use analytics as well as his "gut", and can make adjustments on the fly? You bet I would, but I don't see it happening. That's not the way things are going all across baseball. I'd kill to get someone like Francona as our manager.
