  1. The only statement firing Gardy in mid-season would make is that you are interested in humiliating him, which means you're a prick. So yes, let's string him up. While we're at it, let's string that racist Dick Bremer up too.
  2. How can you be dissappointed that Ryan "missed" on trading Morneau when you don't have the slightest clue what was "missed" in terms of a return? Or are you just looking to express dissappointment again, thrylos? What have any of you heard that lead you to believe the Twins are interested in "dumping salary"? The last I read, Ryan was quite clear in saying that the budget will not be a hinderance as he continues to fix things. My guess is that they're not going to trade Morneau unless they receive adequate talent in return. Frankly, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them agree to absorb part of the $14M to close a deal. I know I'm in the minority, but I believe they will spend big for an Edwin Jackson- type top of the rotation FA starter this winter.
  3. We tend to glance at a few offensive stats and conclude that a player should be promoted. Look how often people have called for Sano to be promoted, he and his 42 errors. I would guess there is a reason to keep him in playoff-bound Beloit rather than promote him to languishing Ft. Myers. How would we know what's best for his development? The Twins are making judgments about the development of players in whom they have serious investment. Dozens of professional eyes are focused on these players all season long. They see them in ways we don't.
  4. I read somewhere that the Twins spent virtually ALL of the draft allottment (97% comes to mind). I think the claim about penny pinching is imaginary. They signed the 4th-best International prospect, outbidding others to do this, and spent their full International allottment as well.
  5. This blueprint makes a lot of sense. I'd trade Morneau for a MLB #2-3 starter, not a prospect, if possible. I'd also trade Span, perhaps for a MLB MI, perhaps for a quality pitching prospect. I might quibble a bit with your RP choices. I'd argue that DeVries is a AAA injury backup and that Swarzak and Burnett still can improve their performances. Guerra can sit in AA until he shows some consistency. Carson is a AAA guy. I'd rush one of the prospects along and start them. If someone would take Carroll from me, I'd do it and live with some combination of Florimon, Dozier, Escobar.
  6. Will Morneau fetch us a top of the rotation starter his age or younger? If yes, the conversation should end. I'd also be willing to trade Parmelee instead, for a 26 year old #2 starter and take my chances with Morneau and Mauer at 1B. Hmm, wonder if Willingham has a first baseman's glove in the back of his locker...
  7. The last thing we need is more #5-6 starters. It's our one "surplus".
  8. Once again, I find myself a little miffed by how little we have heard from the Twins regarding the question of why this pattern of high-velocity relief pitchers played out in the early rounds. Has the print media asked? What have you heard by way of explanation? The media ought to be forced to read this thread daily and then seek answers to these types of qestions, don't you think?
  9. Buck Nasty, hope you're wrong on your prediction, that Ryan obtains only one starter, and a veteran innings eater at that. Acknowledging their history of making these kinds of economy moves, I remain hopeful for a change this off-season. Why? They have the money and the trade chips to acquire two #2-3 starters. Would Morneau plus a C prospect like a Pugh/Watts/Hauser/Summers get us such a starter? Maybe I'm being unrealistic. Am I also being unrealistic to think that Ryan will splurge a bit to land a quality FA starter instead of the next Marquis? If you can add two bona fide starters, sign Baker, insert Diamond and Gibson, then all these #5-6 starters we have can serve as placeholders and insurance. Not a pennant winner, but at least competitive for 2013. If Ryan does NOT bring in two #2-3 starters from outside the organization, count me in as pessimistic for 2013 and critical of Ryan for failing to make an essential and very doable move.
  10. My thoughts and wish list are: Large ifs, but IF Baker and Gibson are set to go, the rotation would be 1. A #2-3 starter via FA; 2. A #2-3 starter via trade; 3. Baker, hope for #2-3 type performance; 4. Gibson, hope for #2-3 type performance; 5. Diamong, hope for #3-4 type performance. Rochester starters, and of course insurance: 1. Hendriks; 2. Vasquez; 3. Walters; 4. Hernandez; 5. Deduno; 6. DeVries, with Hermsen, Bromberg and others in the wings. Swarzak and Duensing in the pen. Blackburn gone. Please. This could be done without breaking the bank, without depleting the lineup, and without decimating the farm system. And no more 100-loss whining tantrums around here. You OK with this idea, twinswon1991? "Waaaaaaah!" OK, twinswon1991, have an animal cracker. Look, it's a monkey!
  11. Sigh. You know, twinswon1991, a monkey would provide us with more intelligent stuff than what you throw up on here. And less boring. Any chance you could find a new place to throw your tantrums? Maybe go back to the floor of Target where you perfected your craft. Geez.
  12. Long-term, I view Diamond as a #3-4 starter on a competitive team. Lots of ifs, but if lucky: Baker #2-3; Gibson #2-3; Diamond #3-4; Hendriks #4-5. All the rest, including Duensing, should be labeled as #5-6 guys. And Rochester is in the playoff hunt with Vasquez, Hernandez, DeVries, Walters, Deduno, Bromberg, Hermsen....none of which will serve as anything more than a back-end starter on an injury-depleted losing team. Which is why we need two, not one, new #2-3 starters via FA and trade. We can compete for the division with frour #2-3 starters. There is no need to deplete the farm system, or mangle the current roster, or break the bank to become at least competitive for 2013. Going for an ace would do one of those things.
  13. There you gp again, DPJ, mincing your words...
  14. It is amazing. What's even more amazing to me is that our big media pals have not asked the hard questions about this ridiculous pattern. Are they afraid? Under orders to not press? Lazy? Making a calculated decision to protect their "access"? Has anyone ever read something from this FO that addresses this?
  15. The consensus is trade him, but for the right return. But what is the right return? Let's assume Ryan insists on trying to put a "competitive" team on the field in 2012. Let's also assume he wrongly believes he's got a competitive outfield sans Willingham. Assume further he's fishing for either a starting pitcher or a SS of higher quality than what he has in Dozier, Casilla, Carroll, Escobar, Florimon and Nishioka (sorry, I just puked). Give me a name to use as a comp, at both positions for Willingham, Morneau, and Span. Example: Morneau gets you Cliff Lee or Dustin Pedroia (kidding here)
  16. Last off-season, Ryan fixed the lineup and the bullpen without depleting the prospect pipeline. He did this without trades, mostly because of a lack of trade chips. A good draft position allowed them to quite significantly upgrade the talent pool in the system. This off-season, he has a chance to fix the rotation (two #2-3 starters, please!) and one of the MI positions via trade. He has the trade chips now. The rest of my wish list is another solid draft and an even more aggressive international signing season. Once again, Ryan can do all this while continuing to significantly improve the farm system.
  17. Sorry, I misread Mr. Bonnes' comment. I am no longer surprised, Boom Boom.
  18. Looking at the Twinkie Town 2012 Top 50, 60% performed acceptably, 20% were injured, and 20% just underperformed expectations. Rough assessment.
  19. Seth, do you recall what a disaster this list was at this time in 2011? I don't know the numbers off-hand, but I recall (probably innaccurately) that at least half of the top 20 were dissappointing, and most of those dissappointments were injury-related, not performance-related. Which probably explains somewhat why a large majority of these prospects have good to great numbers in 2012. It would be interesting to compare the top 50 prospects from TwinsTerritory for 2011 and 2012. How many/what percentage had good numbers in 2011 versus 2012? Of the bad performances, what percentage is mostly attributable to injury each year as opposed to just not performing? My guess for 2012 is that 70% of the top 50 performed acceptably, 20% dissappointed due mostly to injury, and only 10% simply failed to perform to expectations. In 2011, my guess is those numbers were more like 40%, 40%, and 20%. If these guesses are somewhat close, it might explain the somewhat artificial pessimism about the talent level in the system coming into 2012. With the 2012 draft and so many better performances, would you expect the rankings to be dramatically more favorable, or not?
  20. John, that is interesting and surprising that no one blasted the Twins for going into the season with Baker, Liriano, Pavano, Blackburn, and Marquis/Hendriks. Given how disastrous things turned out, its understandable that we have collectively revised our own history about the level of consternation we felt. From reading the comments, one would have to be so completely incompetent to rely on that rotation that firing them is a no-brainer.
  21. Non-tendered is my guess. But NOT to pinch pennies. Eduardo Escobar will be regarded as a better alternative. Now, whether in fact Escobar will be a better alternative?
  22. Geez, I wish you people would stop picking on thrylos just because of the absurd and ignorant things he says.
  23. Deduno in 2012? Yes please. Deduno in 2013? No thank you.
