  1. Another positive is that the twins have the 4th highest spending allotment for the international signings. They begin July 2nd. Supposedly it is a deep year. Chance for a few more prospects here. It does seem like the Twins are headed in the right direction.
  2. I am not so sure that Harrison will stay at third base. I was travelling from Cleveland accross I-80 last Saturday and stopped for the 5PM game in Cedar Rapids. If anyone is in the area I highly recommend stopping. Great atmosphere. It was only one game but Harrison and Hicks sure looked like below average defenders. Seth what is your feeling on Adam Walker- He did not have a particulary good game when I was there but sure looked big, strong and fast.
  3. Hicks has such a good arm I think he should go to right.
  4. Alex Meyer went to the DL at AA I am not sure who they brought to AA when they lost Robertson and they called up Tonkin from AA - I am guessing that might be the other spot
  5. Why would anyone offer more than the slot money. He has no leverage unless he wants to go for his masters degree at Stanford. I still think he losses money holding out for a year even though should get 2-3 million more this year. The reason I feel that way is a pitcher only has so many years and he used one of his in college. He can only move up seven picks in the draft. He ends up losing a year later in his career when (if he is as good as everyone thinks) he will be making way more than the 2-3 million extra he will make this year. He pushed his arbitration clock and free agency back a year by staying in school. With ace free agent pitchers getting 150 million dollar deals he should have signed last year. This is the only prospect that I have read about that I hope the Twins do not get. If it is already all about the money then he isn't staying in Minnesota anyway. Remember the picture of Jose Berrios when he was drafted by the Twins. I hope we get more guys that feel that way.
  6. Glad to see this comment. The more I watch those two play the better I feel about our shortstop position. I really think we have two players there that seem to be improving. Starting Pitching is what we need. I doubt that May will be a major league starter. Seems to me that he will end up as a reliever.
  7. I agree excellent analysis. Either he does well or we delay his arbitration clock. As a fan Hicks is the someone who I am looking forward to seeing. From double A to opening day against Verlander.
  8. NOBODY could have seen Baker having elbow problems in the spring. that should read EVERYBODY should have seen Baker having elbow problems in the spring. It happens every spring. You can rip on the twins about who they did sign but I was and am glad they did not resign Baker. He has been a good pitcher when healthy but totally unreliable. He cannot stay healthy and as he ages it will get worse.
  9. Didn't Gardy just say he wanted some pop off his bench. Here ya go. Would be some insurance if Morneau is traded and Parmelee not productive. Could DH occasionally- pinch hit for Florimon. Bruce Willis is right- Would put fans in the seats
  10. A bench bat does make sense if you are going to have Florimon start at SS. I would not assume that gardy will part with Butera. While I like the idea of the minor league guys getting a chance, pinch hitting is a skill that takes time to develop. I doubt that our minor league players could adjust to the majors and pinch hitting. I read that Scott Rolen would like to play again but that Cincy was not interested. Wonder what he thinks of the Twins. If Plouffe struggles Rolen could spell him at 3B.
  11. Boras does not have the leverage he did last year. What is Appel going to do go to graduate school? He will sign for slot value. That being said he may be the 1st pick and get his money. If he is available at #4 and the twins like him they should draft him.
  12. Twins fan walking through the desert. Almost ready to expire when he looks up and sees a mirage. Water - no Ice cold Grain Belt - No - It's the 2008 version of Rich Harden Right after his last surgery the doctor who performed the operation said that what he fixed was the likely cause of his other shoulder problems. Lets hope he is right.
  13. I don't think that the agent factors in as much on a player that is in the minors and you control when he comes up. As much as i would like to see him pitch, a couple years in the minors makes a lot of sense. Hopefully June 2015. Good trade for both teams
  14. I believe this is the biggest upgrade for the Twins. Steinbach developed into an excellent defensive catcher. The Twins were not good at throwing out base stealers last year. It will be better this year. Gardy has needed help on the bench for years. He is not a good tactical manager. Bruno should help Plouffe and Parmelee. Both guys made huge strides with him in the minors. Maybe Bruno can unlock Mauer's power - Having Cuellar work with the pitchers especially the young ones could be huge. He has added a change-up to more than one pitcher and moved them way up. I think this is the reason why the Twins will be better this year.
  15. Parmelee has a real opportunity here this year. I think he will take advantage. I am hoping for 20 HRS and .270 BA. Not sure how he will do defensively if he stays in RF. Sounds like they had him play mostly 1B in the minors. Must be a reason. Hopefully it was because he was such a good 1st baseman and he will be playable in RF. Looking forward to watching him getting regular AB's.
  16. I agree with you. I like every one of Ryan's moves except Correia. There is not one GM that gets every move right. Adding the second year was a bad move even if Correia pitches well. But I think it is time to get over it. He is rebuilding this team.
  17. Sign Ugeth Urbina and put him in charge of the defense. I can see him chasing fielders around with his machete and gas can after yet another error.
  18. Has anyone heard the expected price range for Aledmys Diaz? I still thinks he makes the most sense for middle infield help. I have no idea if he can play in the majors. If he can a young controllable shortstop that does not cost us any prospects would be the way to go. I would rather see them take a chance on Diaz than sign Sanchez or Kellie Johnson. I know signing Diaz would be more money than either of those two but the twins should not be out of money this year.
  19. Span's last 3 years OBP - .331 .328 .342 Revere last year .333 Mastroianni .328 Minor leagues - Span OBP .355 Revere .383 Mastroianni .368 Mastroianni should steal more bases than Span but less than Revere He should hit more home runs than Revere but less than Span I think Mastroianni playing CF and batting 1st or 2nd is waaay down the list as far as issues for this year. Perfect spot to give him a full time shot and see if he can handle it. If he can't produce as an everyday player he is a very useful 4th outfielder. This has a much better chance of working than our 2B - SS options, starting pitching and overall defense. I think the way this roster is currently constructed that this is the worst defensive team that the Twins have ever fielded. Mastroianni will be our best defensive player by far.

    Cold Predictions

I think you are missing one but I am not sure of his name. He is the 4th pick in the 2013 draft.
  21. Has played some 3B in the minors. 115 games 280 chances 41 errors for an .854 fielding percentage. Much better defensively at 1B- 556 games - 4955 chances 48 errors for a .990 fielding percentage
  22. Dariel Alvarez, Aledmis Diaz officially free agents - MLB Daily Dish The recent Cuban free agents Chapman and Cespedes have done very well. Alexei Rameriz, a former Cuban shorstop has been decent for the White Sox. The Twins shortsop problem has no end in sight. We have not spent that much on our free agent acquisitions so we have money. The Cuban defectors generally get long term deals. I think so they can negotiate the salaries in the team controlled years. A longer term deal would fit well with the addition of our younger pitchers and outfield prospects. If they have favorable scouting reports I would like to see the Twins make an effort to sign him.
  23. The Dodgers need a left handed reliever - Perkins for Zach Lee ? Is a top pitching prospect worth your closer
  24. I think this is a good risk. Pelfrey is young enough and has been durable in the past. I read a couple reports that his off speed stuff is not that good. Maybe Cuellar can help. I still look for a Bedard, Harden, Webb, Escobar type signing. They may break down but that would give Pelfrey a little more time to get ready. We really need arms. I like this signing.
