  1. Chromecast is good, although mainly if you are a big phone/tablet person. Casting from laptops/PCs has always seemed somewhat limited to me. And some people prefer devices with dedicated interfaces/remotes. Although I also noticed that Best Buy has a $50 off promo if you prepay for 3 months of Sling too, which means you could get a Chromecast for free, or a Fire TV box for $50, etc. if you would rather one of them instead of the free Roku: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/clp/sling-tv-promotion/pcmcat748300349642.c?id=pcmcat748300349642
  2. Actually, cheapest would be this promo offer: "FREE ROKU 2 when you prepay three months of Sling TV!" https://www.sling.com/rokudevice
  3. After his playing career, Gardy was only in the minors for 3 seasons, 1988-1990, so it is probably hard to judge.
  4. Interesting. I just had a chance to peruse the Star Tribune baseball preview section, and it included this gem from TK: That is why we still need conversations about BABIP, and that is why I hope these special assistants/instructors don't have too much influence with the GM. Fortunately, TR seems to be good about filtering/moderating such voices, but it might be trickier if Antony or someone else takes over, either short-term or long-term.
  5. Do let us know how Sling works for you! Feel free to use my other thread: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/22039-sling-adds-fox-sports-north/ It certainly seems like Sling (and the more expensive Vue) might be the first major step in in-market baseball streaming...
  6. Transferring an account is possible, but also probably a violation of MLB's terms of service. I'd probably pass on buying one secondhand and wait for the official price drop, simply because I don't support a third party reselling a presumably free subscription for profit, but I thought I'd mention it in case you wanted it earlier/cheaper and had different ethical boundaries than me.
  7. A lot of people got free MLB.TV subscriptions through T-Mobile recently, and while that deal is expired, some have made their way into the resale market. Here is a listing at eBay for $35, if you don't want to wait for the official price drop: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-MLB-Season-Subscription-/172172234779
  8. Oh yeah -- I tried to start a new thread on the Sling development a few days ago, if you want to show it some love. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/22039-sling-adds-fox-sports-north/
  9. MLB.TV, baby! You'd get everything but Twins-KC games. Historically they drop by the price by 50% in May, if you can wait a month or so.
  10. Actually there is now a cheaper alternative to Vue: Sling just added regional Fox Sports networks (including Fox Sports North) to their "multi-stream beta" package for $20 per month. That also includes FS1 and TBS who air some games nationally (but no ESPN/ESPN2 unless you add their other $20 package for a combined $40 per month). I've heard good things about Sling from some baseball fans recently, and they have a one week free trial and no contract, so I'd encourage anyone interested to try it out.
  11. I think that says more about the run environment of Ft Myers and the FSL than it does about this group of pitchers. Although there are some interesting names in the bunch, we may not get a good read on them until they are promoted to Chattanooga.
  12. I think Molitor is a good manager to get us to 1 win, but I think we need some new blood to take us to the next level: 2 wins.
  13. I'm done with this too. Not worth the internet points.
  14. Seriously? Yeah, if you repeatedly ignore strikeouts, walks, power, and various other quantitative and qualitative measures, which you are doing here in this post and you previously did when you judged Trout's 2011 performance as comparably bad to Buxton's MLB career to date, yeah you probably aren't that worried about Buxton. I also won't particularly trust your forecasts for him, though.
  15. I didn't "conclude" anything like that. I've repeatedly said it is still possible for Buxton to achieve McCutchen like success. But I'm not sure if we can project/expect that -- it's becoming more "best case scenario" as time goes by and he struggles so much. With that and your comment about "Buxton hate" I think you are taking this discussion as a lot more absolute that it really is. There are still a wealth of possibilities for Buxton's future MLB career. My point is, the longer he struggles at this rather extreme level, the odds of those different possibilities need to shift. The probably haven't shifted a ton yet because it's not a big sample, but I think they have shifted enough where a McCutchen career path is less likely for him now than it was for him a year ago. I don't think that's "hate."
  16. It's probably unusual for a player, on the verge of McCutchen level success as gunnarthor predicted earlier in this thread, to regress to the point of 4-for-24 with 13 K's and zero walks. No hate here, it's just an unusual step. Hopefully he steps out of it pretty quickly.
  17. Agreed. Which is another factor in my downgrade -- it might take him a while to adjust simply because it takes him that long to accumulate at-bats. And even if/when he does succeed, his success might be more volatile (up and down) than one would like (i.e. seasons of ~100 OPS+ sprinkled among a few 120-130's).
  18. Yeah, and there have been other guys that followed the Moustakas type path, maybe even with more initial struggles. Carlos Gomez OPS+ by year: 55 (Mets debut), 77, 65, 76, 82, 101, 128, 129 Buxton was at 55 last year, and has somehow managed to drag it lower so far this year. That seems unusual? Maybe his path/upside/volatility will be more like Gomez's overall, rather than like McCutchen who progressed like this: 121, 121, 130, 162, 157, 166, 145 And of course Cutch has been the pinnacle of health and durability...
  19. I wonder what the protocol is league-wide. Obviously lots of hitters have come up early in recent years and have been fine -- heck, Sano seemed like one of them last year, K% and BABIP aside...
  20. No, you are right there. It is worse. ashburyjohn had a good takedown on that point in another thread... way back when we were "only" 0-7. Ultimately, it may not be a ton worse, if it truly is some RISP voodoo curse that will soon expire, and obviously it is never good to lose 9 straight, but statistically, losing 9 straight to begin the season is a bit worse than losing 9 straight at some point midseason.
  21. Again, and I can't emphasize this enough: in no way do I endorse the use of the term "flop" to describe Buxton at present time, or even for my projection/expectations of him going forward. My participation in this thread has not been based on Buxton being a "flop" but instead considering a modest downgrade in those projections/expectations based on his current, rather extreme, struggles at the plate in MLB.
  22. The Trout comp here, as I understood it, wasn't an absolute performance comparison, it was simply presented as an example of another top prospect who apparently struggled in his first taste of MLB. But if you look at his rate stats and his progression, Trout didn't really struggle to any great degree. He controlled the strike zone, showed some good power. Again, if anyone knows of one, I'm all ears -- has a top prospect struggled to the extent that Buxton has in MLB so far and rebounded to even McCutchen level stardom? Buxton could be the first, of course, but I'm not sure I'd want to project/expect that, so I'd love to hear some examples of others.
  23. What are you responding to in my quoted post? Really not sure here. I totally understand giving some prospects extra slack for age or a lack of experience. But I'm not sure Buxton is a terribly extreme case in that regard -- for example, at age 22 years and 4 month, over 3.5 pro seasons, McCutchen had 2117 pro PA. Buxton, same age, same number of seasons, has 1511 pro PA. It's not like he just stepped of a raft from... Georgia. It's not a big enough difference, to me, to completely discount his rather extreme poor results in MLB so far. He's not a flop, he's not doomed -- but I think it's fair to consider downgrading a future projection for him.
  24. Sure, that sounds reasonable. But it also appears that Buxton's current MLB results are somewhat less than "less-than-stellar".
  25. It is a fairly rare occurence for any MLB team to lose 9 consecutive games. If you go back in time and replay these 9 games in some alternate universe timeline, I would guess the Twins current roster wouldn't come out of them 0-9 again, Torii or not. Likewise, the 1991 Twins won 15 games in a row after they recalled Lenny Webster in June. If they went back in time and replayed them, I doubt those Twins would still win those same 15 consecutive games, Lenny Webster or not.
