  1. Sorry I started this monster of a thread!
  2. And take a look at the opposing lineup Darnell was facing. Leadoff man Alexi Casilla! Basically zero current prospects, Jesus Montero is only one with an OPS over .700, and the last 5 guys in that lineup each have OPS figures below .550 right now. (You know how bad Buxton has looked at the plate in MLB so far? Career MLB OPS .555)
  3. Actually, only one postseason game meets that criteria. Nathan blew one save in the playoffs for us, game 2 in 2009.
  4. And my point was, you may need to re-calibrate your perception of MLB careers if you think 11 years (Crain) is a "short career" in the full universe of MLB players. What percentage of 25 year olds with ~70 days of MLB service time do you think wind up with 11 year careers?
  5. Nothing. I believe their contracts with Fantex are dependent on Fantex selling all of the "shares" first.
  6. It appears that MLB.TV has begun lowering the price of MLB.TV Premium subscriptions this year. It's a targeted email, a "special offer for free game of the day users", so I don't have a link to share, but my understanding is that you can probably get the same offer if you follow these steps: Create a free MLB.com account, if you haven't already Sign in with your account to watch a "free game of the day" on MLB.com (I don't think you actually have to watch for any length of time, just loading it up once probably flags you as a "free game of the day user" in their system) Wait for the targeted 50% offer to be emailed to youThat last step could take a few days, or a few weeks, it's hard to predict. But it appears these offers have already started rolling out. Last year I got mine on May 11. This is for MLB.TV Premium, and drops the price from $109.99 to $54.99.
  7. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/04/dee-gordon-receives-80-game-ped-suspension.html Let's hope he hasn't been training with his brother Nick!
  8. Ervin Santana would be eligible to return Friday May 6, and Kyle Gibson on Sunday May 8. Assuming they make no other changes, Berrios and Duffey would each get one more start before that. Milone only has one tentative start in that time too (Sunday).
  9. Read the link I posted above. Fans aren't buying a share of Duffey's future earnings. They are buying a share of a "brand tracking stock" on Duffey, that is measured at the sole discretion of Fantex. I guess it's not illegal (it's spelled out in the terms of the purchase), but I'd say it's more than a bit deceptive.
  10. Yeah, it sounds like this is more of a (bad) investment in Fantex, than an investment in a player like Duffey: http://blogs.reuters.com/felix-salmon/2013/10/18/bad-investment-of-the-day-fantex-edition/
  11. Pelfrey signed a major league contract when he was drafted, which isn't allowed anymore. So at the same age Duffey is now, Pelfrey had pocketed $6.6 million and had almost enough service time for arbitration. Pelf has also managed to come back from missing virtually a full season due to injury twice, which is rather unusual. Romero most assuredly was not at "the back of the bullpen" (if by "back" you mean bottom) during his time with the Twins, or his 2008 season with the WS champ Phillies, both of which were springboards for his future opportunities and salaries. Crain earned paychecks for 11 MLB seasons, that might be shorter than a few guys but it is clearly not a "short career" when compared to all MLBers. The odds that Duffey or even a better rookie prospect achieves a career of similar length are rather low.
  12. To be fair, that's fWAR which is based on FIP. Probably not the best measure for a reliever. Going by RA9-WAR at Fangraphs, the relief leader had 3.7, still less than 25 starters but not quite as severe: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=0&type=6&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=3,d
  13. Fangraphs to the rescue! Twins batters, last 14 days: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2016&month=2&season1=2016&ind=0&team=8&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=9,d Dozier, .682 OPS In case anyone was unaware, you can also sum up any date range on the player's game log page, although it's not quite as slick as the same process at B-Ref (but it does include league/park adjusted rate stats like wRC+/ERA-/FIP- for the date range, which B-Ref doesn't do): http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=9810&position=2B&type=2&gds=2016-04-14&gde=2016-04-27&season=
  14. I don't think it is "tracked" but It *should* be easy to find -- just do a Play Index search at B-Ref for games where are pitcher got both a blown save and a win. Although looking at the play index form, it doesn't look like you can search for both of those decisions simultaneously... and I'm not a Play Index subscriber right now, so I don't feel like I should ask for that upgrade. In any case, if you get that part working, you'd probably also have to filter by inning entering the game, or you'd get a lot of setup men who blew leads prior to the 9th inning (which technically counts as a "blown save" even though it really isn't a save opportunity in modern practice anymore).
  15. Well, according to TR, they were still planning to promote David Murphy just a couple days ago.
  16. If you search there is a deal for $50 off any device at Best Buy with 3 months paid Sling subscription. So you could get $50 off a Roku 3 that way, and skip the Roku 2.
  17. Tonkin would definitely have to go through waivers, but I don't think the Twins would be particularly bothered by that, at this point (nor should they be, if they feel like they can add a better pitcher). Could be Duffey, if Berrios is essentially taking the place of the DL'ed Ervin Santana. Although Milone staying in the rotation isn't ideal...
  18. Actually, evidence suggests TR acts a lot more independently than Bill Smith. A lot of the aggressive moves of Smith's tenure seemed to directly follow Gardy's whims, for example. (Meanwhile, there are rather few aggressive moves with TR at the helm.)
  19. So, Polanco up, Ervin to the DL -- that still means another guy needs to be dropped from the 25-man to add Berrios. I guess not until after the game tonight. Pretty much can only be O'Rourke or Tonkin, right?
  20. Cleveland's first time through the order yesterday vs Milone: 4 hits in 9 AB I doubt Milone has any kind of early magic that would play up in the pen, although he may prove to be an adequate relief option for other reasons.
  21. Well, we were willing to drop John Hicks from the 40-man to add David Murphy, so I'm not sure why the 40-man was such a limiting factor for us two weeks ago. But even if you limit it to the 40-man, we do have another outfielder on 40-man roster (Walker) who would probably be more appropriate for parking on the MLB bench. And we've used Nunez in the outfield before, which could have been an option with a Polanco promotion. We didn't need a backup CF for a change, since we already had Buxton and Rosario.
  22. There's an off day Thursday too, so it's pushing Gibson back 2 days. I guess it buys an extra day for Ervin too, so maybe Duffey finally gets sent out.
  23. Berrios is taking Gibson's turn Wednesday, and there is an off day Thursday. Is there a problem with Gibson? I saw Berardino referenced back problems as well as his poor performance.
  24. Rain might do that for you, the forecast for this whole home stand is pretty bad (although probably not raining-enough-to-cause-a-delay bad).
