  1. Dozier was called up almost 3 years after his draft (June 2009 to May 2012).
  2. What if you pass on those too? Are we building hotels on Baltic and Mediterranean?
  3. I don't think stadium/market matters to draftees, especially now with slots and hard caps. And I don't know that the post-Friedman front office rep is bad for Tampa. Silverman, Neander, and Bloom all served right under Friedman. Obviously different for MLB free agents.
  4. Why? They have been a pretty good organization for a while now. I doubt David Price regrets being drafted by them. They develop well, promote timely...
  5. That seems like a good way to spend it all down, but a bad way to actually get the most or the best talent...
  6. From Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tristan_(name)
  7. I think Boras publicly keeping the asking price high helps the Twins strategy (whatever it is). Don't want other teams (and draftees) to explicitly know the Twins have $X extra to play with.
  8. We don't know what the Twins were offering. If it was $2 mil less, and they weren't going to let him choose his position(s), that's probably a worse offer.
  9. But on the bullpen threads, you keep dismissing Bard (and Melo) as indistinguishable from Tepesch, Wilk, Rucinski, Wimmers, etc....
  10. Nope, that was Tristen Lutz. This is Tristan Lulz! Totally different guy.
  11. I think ESPN projects starting assignments based on who is currently on the roster rather than any inside info. Previously they had Wilk listed to start a few weeks ago.
  12. Royce Clayton... Royce Ring... hopefully Royce Lewis will break the mediocre mold!
  13. Their 35/37 picks will have a lot of leverage to deplete their pool, even if they don't deserve it. I just hope they get plus talent in those spots.
  14. I wouldn't wait for Pressly. Get a few reps for Hildenberger or Busenitz or whoever they think is next in line. Odds are you will need bullpen reinforcements later anyway -- even if they don't stick now, there is value in getting them acclimated to the big leagues before you may have to call on them in a pennant race. (And also see how they acclimate/adjust a bit before you have to make July trade decisions.)
  15. I would assume "in the field" of all draft prospects. Doesn't really make sense, otherwise.
  16. I think people were making excuses for him, after his first few 3+ run outings. "Can't judge by ERA" etc. But I agree, fan opinion is coming together on him now. Unfortunately, the team opinion doesn't seem to be moving, still putting him into close games with a long enough leash to completely blow it...
  17. Yup. Belisle was already on thin footing, given his average-to-low leverage use from the previous few seasons. Blowing up in higher leverage for the Twins, at age 37, could be the end of the MLB line for him.
  18. First, while Duffey got 5 outs Saturday, he only needed 16 pitches to do it. And he hadn't pitched at all the two days before that. If Duffey is in your bullpen, he should be available to pitch in that situation at this point in the season -- he's going to have to work consecutive days eventually, might as well be now. If not Duffey, then I guess I don't care if you go with Belisle to start the inning, but I think you have to have a quicker hook. Either Duffey or a rested Rogers. Bigger picture, if Wimmers can't pitch there and isn't the long man anymore either, then he probably shouldn't be on the team. Replace him with someone else who has the potential to be useful in that situation. I know you frequently dismiss such notions as re-arranging deck chairs, but seriously, there's no point in having Wimmers, Heston, Boshers, and Breslow (and maybe even Belisle at this point) all together, with no trust/future but a lot of overlapping roles. Maybe Hildenberger or Busenitz don't work out either, but they should be worth a shot over the status quo.
  19. Eades is still pretty iffy, but if he does emerge as something here in 2017, he's another guy who could need 40-man protection this winter. (He was already eligible for Rule 5 last winter, like Slegers.)
  20. Yup. Plus Gonsalves, Thorpe, Stewart, and Slegers (who was actually eligible last winter)... Turley, Bard, and Van Steensel in a bit more of the "wild card" category... On the hitter side, there's not as much, but we do have Jermaine Palacios, Luis Arraez, and Lewin Diaz facing Rule 5 eligibility this winter, it appears. Looking at the current 40-man, I see about 9-10 spots which could open up... although 1-2 will go to May and O'Rourke, and a few of those will probably require MLB contract replacements (Belisle, Breslow, Santiago, etc.). Very hard to see Dereck Rodriguez claiming a spot, at this point.
  21. This is his 4th season pitching, and his results have been pretty modest. Not only is he old, but don't forget that the FSL is a pitcher's league too -- Rodriguez is actually allowing HR at a higher rate than his league and his teammates. His FIP is basically league average too. If they want to challenge him with a promotion before he becomes a minor league free agent, that's fine, but at this point, he's got to be a long shot for 40-man consideration.
