  1. The MLB isn’t Cinderella. Pumpkins don’t turn into chariots and carry you off to the ball to meet your Prince Charming. That’s what is gonna have to happen if this roster plans on contending/competing. Blow it up or push the chips in. I’d even be happy if all the chips were pushed in on a bluff.
  2. Jorge DeLeon is looking pretty good right now.
  3. Wondering how many teams outside the top 1/3 of payroll have won the WS in recent years. Off the top of my head; Royals, White Sox?, Marlins, Angels? Not many. Payroll isn’t the end all be all money can’t buy happiness, but it sure is a good down payment.
  4. I would take that in a heartbeat. Twins have plenty of capable of taking over in CF and Pollock is still out there with his prices dropping every day most likely.
  5. Any one year deal for veterans on non contending teams is so they can be flipped at the deadline for prospects. This is something the last FO didn’t make use of and I’ll atlest give some credit to the new one for taking advantage.
  6. If unspent money was going to be spent in later years Twins could sign Machado and Harper for whatever they wanted.
  7. Yes and yes. The money is off the books, prospects are just that and let’s not worry about blocking someone years down the road. A spot can always be made. This team is decidedly average everywhere. If only a couple of star players, or maybe just one superstar, were available for big money/short term the Twins could actually look like contenders. The Royals make a push when they’re looking good. Brewers are currently all in and have shown a willingness to make big trades/FA signs for long term and rental pieces when they see a window. When was the last time the Twins made a win now move, Lance Lynn and LoMo don’t count?Maybe a couple real win now moves shows these guys the FO believes in them and this “core” might just step up and become just that. I’m about to be a Brewers fan.
  8. Now that Allen is out of the picture. What’s bottom dollar for Kimbrel? 3/50, opt out after 2? If this team doesn’t add some real talent it needs to be blown up, and fast.
  9. 3/100 with an opt out after the 2nd year and NTC. This allows him to try for a mega deal while he’s still in his prime. Twins can ship him for prospects or hit him with a QO. Most likely Falvine will offer 1/20 though. Don’t really want him on the team but that’s the deal I would offer.
  10. Thinking outside the box of a five man rotation. How about signing two of these FA; Bucholz & Pomeranz, and going with a FOUR day EIGHT man rotation. 1)Berrios/Gonzo 2)Gibson/Mejia 3)Odor/Bucky2 4)Pineda/Pommy Leaving 4 or 5 spots for the bullpen 1)May 2)Rogers 3)Reed 4)Romero, longman, “starter” replacement 5)Hildy or your choice of RP with options Each pair making 40 starts and combing for ~300 innings = 1200, leaving less than 300 for the remaining 5 bullpen spots. It would be nice to get that out of the top four mentioned. Twins could then utilize an opener(Hildy, Vasquez?) for the fifth man who can share a roster spot with a position player(Astudillo) who also has options.
  11. Would much rather of had Herrera on his deal. Especially considering all the bullpen arms are coming off the board. Who’s left but Kimbrel for “game changers”?
  12. I know Rogers is an outlier in the WAR part of the equation. Having an elite player anywhere on the roster holds more value to me than an average player. I know it’s a SSS, but he looks really good and is as good a bet as any to outperform his position more so than a Polanco or Kepler.
  13. SS Polanco S 3B Astudillo R LF Rosario L DH Cruz R 1B Sano R CF Cave L 2B Schoop R RF Kepler L C Castro L Cron PH for Castro and plays first while Sano moves to 3B, or is subbed out for Adrianza, and Astudillo moves to C.
  14. Berrios and Rosario have shown the most consistency and talent at the MLB level so they have to go 1,2 for me. 1)Berrios 2)Rosario 3)Rogers- elite 4)Kiriloff 5)Lewis 6)Romero 7)Polanco 8)Buxton 9)Garver, as a C 10)Sano 11)Cave 12)Kepler 13)Mejia 14)Astudillo, I know 15)Thorpe 16)May 17)Gonzo 18)Arraez 19)Gordon 20)Cruz, only because the option year. I looked at it almost like future WAR, for Twins, on current contract.
  15. Starting 5 looks pretty set to me 1)Berrios 2)Gibson 3)Odor 4)Pineda 5)Mejia I know it takes more than 5 to finish a season; Romero, Gonzo, Stewart, Thorpe, Slegers, and DeJong are all waiting for their chance next. Thor or one of the Indians starters are the only needle movers rumored to be available.
  16. Not sure what a Twins package would’ve looked like. I do believe they could’ve sent lesser prospects than what the Mets did, with Twins not needing to send back a bad contract like Bruce or Swarzy. But here it goes; Kepler + Reed + Gordon + Stewart. Cave makes Kepler expendable, Reed = Swarzy , Arraez > Gordon, and Stewart = meh.
  17. I’m leaning towards your 2nd school of thought. Polanco can hold the fort down a little longer. It’s a little early to be expecting Lewis to pan out, not a fan of prospects. I’d hunt whoever comes cheapest between Murphy, Cabrera, and Lowrie.
  18. I was ready to give up on Buxton after his concussion when he was with the Kernels, and Sano once he, seemingly, showed he doesn’t give a crap by showing up out of shape every year. Top prospects should always be traded. Why wait for an investment to mature when you can swap it for on that has already matured.
  19. Yes, punt. Trade anyone in arbitration already and hope the Lewis, Kiriloff, Graterol era comes out better. You think this core is anywhere near contention, or even pretenders?
  20. I agree that Santana is better than Grossy but he’s not what is needed. What’s needed is a middle of the order bat to build a lineup. The only thing the Twins have close to that is Rosario, and with Donaldson off the market I don’t think anymore are available. I know batting average isn’t a stat most people like but Santana hit .229 last year. This team doesn’t have a core to build on. What they need is short term veterans that can be traded at the deadline like last year. I expect many of the same type of “fall to Twins” deals that were made last year.
  21. I’m saying I don’t want either of them on the team.
  22. Almost exactly as much as Robbie Grossssssssssman
  23. I don’t understand the interest in Santana. He’s old, expensive, dh only, barely league average, and requires a trade.
  24. Corn Job, lol. Good pickup, better than what we have, albeit marginally, relatively cheap, non guaranteed roster spot. Twins have nothing to lose by picking him up.
