  1. How long before Aaron Gleeman gets hired by the Twins? BP has had lots of writers get hired by Front Offices.
  2. Setting aside the quibbling over how elite Shannon Stewart was or was not, I will grant you this one.
  3. But there’s no way to know if Verlander would have been able to help the Twins in a crucial game against the Yankees.
  4. I agree with everything you wrote in this post. And this is coming from someone who wanted them to trade for Verlander in August. You argues persuasively and convinced me. One thing I will note though. The principle of finding ways to acquire elite players is completely sound. Terry Ryan never ever went after elite players. He didn't go after big free agents. He didn't go after elite players in trades. He mostly went after average players. If you aim for mediocrity, you have a good chance of achieving it. Going after an elite arm has already paid off for Houston. It could have worked out for the Twins. The main thing I hope going forward if for Falvey and Levine is to see them going after as many elite players as possible.
  5. Molitor's record is 227-259 as Twins manager, his first three years managing at any level. They were supposed to be on an upward trajectory as he started out, as a new wave of players came up. They did well in their first year, finishing above 500 on the back of one big month. They massively underperformed in his second year, while he trotted out Sano in right field and refused to give one of their best starting prospects, Meyer, a chance to establish himself. In his third year, they bounced back with a solid year, that luckily (and would not have normally) wound up with a playoff berth, on the back of one big month and several young players taking a big step forward at once (and Mauer showing signs of returning to his preconcussion norms). The best homerun hitter on the team, Dozier dictated where he would bat in the lineup (the wrong place). I have nothing against Molitor, a great guy, and a St. Paul native, former Twin. But I expect the Twins to be better next year than this year regardless of who the manager is. I think there can and should be a manager better able to optimize the teams' chance of success next year. I voted no. I also would be very surprised if he isn't back. I vote yes on the "will he be back" question.
  6. Is James Rowson a candidate to replace Molitor?
  7. I wonder if Buxton had bunted in the first inning, scoring a fourth run, would the TD crowd have gone berserk?
  8. Read the Bernadino piece. A funny bit from that was that Mauer didn't even remember the inspirational words that were the basis for the story. The players only meeting, though, seemed to be something that they all remember. Of course, they also lost the game that night after the team meeting?
  9. If Mauer's hit is five feet further and Judge's is five feet short, Twins win 7-6.
  10. What sucks about this is the fact that this whole "the Yankees own the Twins" thing will continue...forever.
  11. You mean a bullpen that pitches 300 innings and gets 450 strikeouts? That's impossible, no team could ever construct that.
  12. Note to self, need to touch the base while running out a grounder.
  13. So anyway, any ideas on what to get Mike for a house warming gift?
  14. I'm trying to figure out what you edited out of your response.
  15. I almost forgot, this thread would not be complete without a Princess Bride reference!
  16. Let me get this straight. The Yankees pull their starter after 1 out, use nothing but dominant bullpen arms, are set up for their usual 8-9 elite arms...and still have a reliever that is better than any of the Twins' relievers...that they aren't even going to use?
  17. Excellent chance to get Gardner out this inning.
  18. I just have one question, Was it over when the Bulgarians built Rome in a day? Hell no!
  19. That ball sat up there like it was on a tee for Judge.
