  1. In what is going to be a critical offseason, Teryry Ryan will have to decide what to do about the potential OF/1b/DH logjam. With Mauer playing more time at DH and 1B and Gardy trying to get Doumit everyday playing time, the twins will have a playing time crunch if they do nothing. They also have outfield prospect that may be ready by midseason. So, if you were TR what would you do? (You can select multiple options in the poll)
  2. You made an account to post that?!
  3. Would make sense, given how quickly it happened. I'd guess the Twins would have paid Hanshin some cash to take Nishi, but don't MLB teams need to pay cash to the Japanese clubs for the right to negotiate for players under contract? Does the system not work both ways? Well I would guess since the Twins and Nishi agreed to tear up the last year of the deal, they (the twins) have no right to demand money from the Japanese club
  4. The twins do need number 2-3 starters. Give me a rotation of 4 number two to three starters (Baker, Gibson, Appel, etc.) any day. The impact of one true "ace" is overblown.
  5. They won't pick up his option, and they won't run a significant risk of losing him. That would be like saying, "If Capps is healthy, how can they not pick up is option". Nobody will spend more than 8 mil On an injury prone #3 starter coming back from TJ
  6. How bout an award for best player under 5'8" or something
  7. 3/30 would still be their biggest free agent contract ever. But ryan saying they won't spend big doesn't mean anything
  8. Sign a veteran or former prospect to a minor league deal to push plouffe in ST but give plouffe 2 months to show he belongs. He's the best option we have right now that has any upside.
  9. Good overall. 2 things though: I wouldn't say slama has a reasonable chance to open the season on the roster. While he certainly deserves it, the twins decision making towards him isnt likely to change. Two, if the twins had better options for the pen down on the farm, they would probably be on the big league club already. So while they will certainly give guys a chance to fight for a job during spring training, don't get your hopes up about how good those guys will be.
  10. that option definitely won't be picked up
  11. I would assume they don't just ignore the fact that they might get injured. That's why they like contract security. Especially Burton, who has been injured a lot in his career. Besides, no agent would let his guy assume he won't get injured.
  12. I would be thrilled I the twins made that deal. The first year is basically what you pay for him in arbitration. If he has another decent year, he would get much more than 2/5 in free agency. If he's bad or hurt, you only pay 5m for 2 years of average relief (if hes bad) or 1 year of probably pretty good relief (if he's hurt). Then you also have an option.
  13. But then the other team would have to pay his buyout
  14. How do you add polls and where can you do it (blog posts only, forums, anywhere even discussions)?
  15. It probably depends on how long he stays a catcher
  16. I use chrome on a mac and it has happened occasionally
  17. I don't see what He could of done. If you get off the bag he catches it and tags you.
  18. While I agree with you that it's possible, it's also incredibly rare. I can't remember the last time I saw a true prospect-for-prospect swap. The twins don't need to trade a prospect for a prospect. In arcia and hicks case,. They can trade the guy the prospect is replacing instead
  19. Signing him to a one year extension isn't really like signing him to 3/21 again. We already have the 2/14. He will probably be good value for those two years. But just because signing to 3/21 now would also be good value, that doesn't mean we should do it. The question is how valuable would he be in that age-37 season that we would be extending him for.
  20. Half of the hitting in War measures how a guy hits away from his home field. And WAR includes baserunning too.
  21. If you blame this years struggles on the rotation: Gardy couldn't have prevented Baker's injury Gardy didn't sign Marquis and couldn't control how bad he was Nobody could make Francisco stay good for an extended period- the white sox haven't been able to and nobody wanted to bet that they could at the trade deadline by trading anyone decent for him Gardy chose the established ok back of the rotation starter Blackburn instead of unknowns from triple A Gardy chose the decent inning eater getting paid 8m Pavano instead of unknowns from AAA I don't see what he could have done better with the rotation.
  22. Gardy was the one who got the twins the reputation for doing things the twins way. Defense and hustle. Just because his players are worse now and some rookies made errors, you can't blame him.
  23. As much upside as Parmelee at 3b? Florimon as the starting SS for a winning major league baseball team is wishful thinking at best. Parmelee at 3b is wishful thinking. And good teams often have good glove/no hit shortstops
  24. As i think we all thought, he's a good lefty reliever, especially if Perkins is gonna close
  25. Dealing top proscects generally backfires. When the twins dealt Ramos people were furious.
