  1. It doesn't have to be an either or decision. Giving PT to young players can help give them experience to build for the future and can also free up payroll to help the present. Signing FA's to 1yr contacts can help in the short term or they can be trading chips at the deadline to help build for the future. It's not either blow it up or go all in.
  2. Looks like a good pitcher to target but not necessarily a twins type pitcher. Any reason you think the twins will go after him or are you just saying they should?
  3. Another reason the twins probably won't sign any big money FA's: Josh Willingham was the biggest FA contract they ever inked. (obviously not including extending their own).
  4. Hey Seth does he project to be a leadoff type hitter in the majors?
  5. Posey should win. He's a catcher who won the batting title while coming back from one of the ugliest injuries in recent memory. It shouldn't, but it matters to have a good story.
  6. Good idea. It depends on what it would take to acquire him. PTBNL or something and go for it. Too much more and we're giving up value for a bench/platoon bat.
  7. I agree. I wa kind of going for a prediction on how good the offseason will be and where we will be after it.
  8. If he would accept it, there's little risk and huge reward. He could either waste 2mil, boost us into respectability, or get us a decent prospect at the deadline.
  9. Bring up Sano? The kids 19 and in A-ball. He's incredibly raw and there's no way he's ready by midseason. Fall 2014 at the soonest.
  10. It is a good idea but not for this particular player. They should be signing under the radar players that could either boost them into contention or be flipped for a nice prospect at the deadline.
  11. If they trade an outfielder this offseason it would make a lot of sense to sign a free agent for one year and flip him at the deadline. If not, good luck finding any playing time.
  12. Rosterman, I think the idea of having 3 catchers that all play multiple positions is a great one. Mauer and Doumit can both DH and play first base, and Hermann also plays the roll of a 5th outfielder. It leads good, versatile bench and keeps gardy happy with 3 catchers.
  13. I fail to see your logic. That won't happen unless they trade like half a dozen players, which couldn't "easily" happen. 1B-not unless they trade both Parm and Morneau RF/CF-not unless they trade both Span and Revere, and then Mastroianni, Hicks, and Arcia all fail DH-there hasn't been any talk of trading Doumit, who will probably play a good chunk of time there. Mauer, Mourneau/Parmelee and Willingham playing there on off days can't be considered holes either. Some of those positions could be holes but i highly doubt that 7/9 starting positions will be holes.
  14. If they plan on offering anyone of that sort a managing position, they need to let them manage this year in AA/AAA so they can get some experience. I don't need a 20th year manager but I don't want one with no managing experience either.
  15. He started hitting leadoff this year, I believe. Meaning he was previously in the middle of the order? It seems like he could profile as maybe more of a #2 hitter just because he has a little more pop.
  16. The West may have been better this year but I think the East will be better more often than not over the next 5 years
  17. I know he doesn't have any connection with the organization, but Barry Bonds has shown interest in coaching, but the giants have tried to distance themselves from him and steroids. He may not be the nicest guy, but the guy knows every secret of the game. If we offered him a job as a hitting instructor is it possible he would jump at the chance? I mean how nice would it be for him to go around helping prospects for a few weeks at each level. He could help Hicks really figure it out or help Sano get to the next level.
  18. Any idea where in the order hicks will hit? Where has he hit in the minors?
  19. actually we don't have any pitchers in the top 50 http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/10/8/3474586/preliminary-top-50-pitching-prospects-list-for-2013
  20. Sano #6, Buxton #19, Arcia #21, Rosario #22. That makes our farm system look strong, but it only includes hitters and we probably won't have any pitchers high on the list.
  21. Has anyone thought about how trading for these players will affect the Twins payroll? TR has said he has some flexibility, but I'm not sure the management would be ok with adding too much payroll after back to back 90 loss campaigns.
  22. The only way they should trade for Johnson is if he agrees to assign an extension as soon as the trade happens. They should not be trading prospects for one year rentals when they've lost 90 games two years in a row.
  23. While not ideal, that was the only way to make it work. Blame the calendar.
  24. I woul say they were top 30%. They were in the playoffs most years, even considered a model organization on how to succeed with a low payroll.
