  1. Don't give up on him. To doesn't have the potential to be a #5 starter after less than one season seems harsh
  2. Given Doumit and Mauers' playing off catcher so often, we need a good 3rd catcher who can catch but doesn't waste a roster spot on someone who can't do anything besides catch (hit, run, play outfield). It seems like a great idea to have 3 catchers like Mauer, Doumit, and Hermann on the roster next year. We need versatility from that other catcher spot. Mauer: C, 1B, DH Doumit: C, DH, RF? Hermann: C, LF, RF
  3. Capps at 2.5m is not a bad deal. He's a decent set up man. People just hate him because we gave up Ramos, because he's fat, and because we overpaid him.
  4. No manager can magically transform his players in to something better than what they can be. Gardy can't make 5 AAA pitchers into a major league staff
  5. Some of the outfield defenses make me cringe. Span, hammer, Parm? not pretty
  6. Morneau is definitely not higher than most of those guys. 1yr/14 mil is not good value even if he returns to elite form. 3 years of span or 5 years of revere for very cheap is way more valuable. The same could be argued for the 6-10 guys

    2012 blueprint

You really can't predict what we would get for Span, so naming a specific player from a specific team seems silly, especially bc that player isn't doing anything for you offseason plan. Also, why wouldn't you trade for pitching

J-Dog: 3) Hermmann is a catcher prospect. Kind of like doumit- super utility-ish except he plays outfield instead of 1B/DH 11) Yah Nishi isn't going anywhere in the states but i suppose a Japanese team might want him. Anyway 3m isn't killing us and we would only save 1m. 15) How could you get value for Baker the upcoming offseason if he was on a 1yr contract
  9. 3 catchers and only 4 other infielders?
  10. Maybe we should swing a deal and acquire kenny williams
  11. It's interesting to wonder what positions these outfield prospects will play in the majors considering all out prospects. In my opinion Revere should be the LFer becuase of his arm and that LF is bigger than right at Target. I see Arcia as a replacement for Willingham except that he should play RF because his arm is a big stronger than Revere but he isn't as fast. Then you have Hick who is pretty much a lock to be a CFer considering his great arm and great speed. Obviously not all these guys will be stars but I think you have a good, cheap, young outfield within the next year, without even factoring benson or Buxton in (or rosario of 2b doesn't work out).
  12. I think that the team needs to trade either Morneau or Parmelee. Considering out dire pitching needs and that mauer doumit and Willingham will take up a lot of 1b/dh time
  13. I didn't think you COULD tear up an existing deal. Baseball contracts are guaranteed and you can't "renegotiate" them like you hear in the NFL. I feel like that's been discussed in 10,000 forum threads asking Joe Mauer to "re-work" his deal so he isn't stealing from the Twins anymore. Haha. I think you can rework deals. You just can't rework them from 6yrs/23m per to 2 yrs/10m per like some twins fans want mauer to do. But from 1yr/14m to 3/30 or 2/22 the players union might agree with
  14. Profar or Bundy? I would pay 50 million in a second. Think about it. You get them for 3 years at league minimun and 3 more years arbitration eligible. For free agents 1 WAR is about 5m. I think they would produce 10 WAR over the first 4 years while they're salaries average less than 1m. Then you still have 2 years of control
  15. "Get your **** together, Drew. You're embarrassing me." He's just being a good dad
  16. They thought he would be more of a 270/370/400 hitter with decent speed and steady defense. That would be a great thing to slot into the #2 slot (knowing how Gardy likes his MI hitting 2) for a team with so little MI depth. (That was before Revere emerged). He is also a decent mentor for the twins young MI. Finally, Its not as if he's blocking our organizational top prospect. We have no MI depth
  17. "That isn’t good. The Indians are the only American League team that’s worse. The three teams who have the most runs over .500 also happen to be the division leaders. The outlier is the Orioles, who are 45 runs under .500 but still have a shot at the wild card. But for the most part, the teams that are around 40 games over .500 have a decent chance at a playoff spot." 40 games over is 101 wins... 40 runs over?
  18. Before this year, AJ averaged 11.5 HR's from the time he became a regular major leaguer, not 15. This year, AJ's K% is 12.8 and Mauer's is 13.4. Career has Mauer slightly lower than AJ. Who have you talked to about their "fear factor?" He walks more than almost anyone in the league (6th?) with Willingham hitting behind him. And he sees below average % pitches in the strike zone (a lower % than Willingham, btw). Most of those walks are unintentional, but I do agree about people pitching carefully to him.
  19. jokin I don't think the issue now is justifying the contract- It can't be done. This issue is how to get the most value out of Mauer for the next 7 years (I believe that the contract runs for 7 more years, not 6) You have to keep him healthy, otherwise your paying 23m for a player to sit on the DL.
  20. Anthony Slama > Jeff Gray
  21. Agreed. If a change is needed its because the players are tuning him out, not because he's a bad manager
  22. If Gardy really isn't getting through to his players, then its time for a change. If thats not the problem, then its not his fault and he can't really do anything to make the pitching better
  23. Mauer is a CATCHER. Catching every day will absolutely destroy your body. He has an 8yr contract. Would you rather have him kill his body when we aren't contending and then just be dead weight when we are contending? Or would you rather have him stay healthy so he can produce for his whole contract
  24. With Plouffe and Parm we would have and entire starting infield(dozier, Florimon) , and one outfielder (revere) for league minimum. We would also have maestro at league min. Our other position players are all cheap-span, carrol, doumit, butera, besides Mauer, mourny and Willingham. I think that leaves us a lot of payroll to sign pitching or to eat salary in trades to get better pitching. Most of the core players in the pen are also just emerging so they are also cheap.
