  1. The only thing that he's shown he is good at is taking walks. He was profiled as a power hitter coming out of high school, but he's been far from that up to this point. Add that to below average defense and there isn't a lot to be excited about. The only good thing, as you pointed out, is that he still somewhat has age on his side.
  2. I'm excited to see what Jorge Polanco could do with an extended amount of playing time at the mlb level. I think he could definitely hit in the .290-.300 range with 10-15 HR and 20-25 SB. That would be way more than adequate for either second base or shortstop.
  3. I found it interesting that Law wrote that Kepler has "played well enough in center to project to stay there". That's good news, but it makes you wonder why they would play him so many games at first then.
  4. I agree. I was hoping for a breakout year too, but he looks to be basically done as a prospect.
  5. Wow, I didn't realize it would be such a wide team margin. They must just not want to waste all of their hits in losses I guess.
  6. I think Brian Dozier needs to be the one to regain his form from the weeks leading up to the AS break so he and Sano can co-carry this team to the playoffs. He's only hitting .210 with a .668 OPS in the 2nd half. It's also pretty interesting that his OPS in wins is .912 and only .627 in losses. And he only has 19 of his 70 RBI in losses in roughly the same amount of games. I think this shows how important it is that he gets on track in these games down the stretch.
  7. Not a great close to the season for Max, but a great regular season overall. His numbers in Chattanooga for the regular season were .322/.416/.531 (.947) in 482 PA with 9 HR, 71 RBI, 32 doubles, 13 triples, 18/22 SB, 67/63 BB/SO. Hopefully Max can add a solid postseason and then a couple weeks in the show onto this great season.
  8. Hopefully it would include some sort of penalty for every GIDP.
  9. Torii is way down there on my list of DH options;
  10. Max Kepler was just named MVP of the Southern League! Very well deserved.
  11. I think you have to give it to Berrios because of the strikeout numbers. By the way, does anyone else always get Pat Dean and Brett Lee mixed up when reading about them? They just seem so similar with the single-syllable names and both being lefties with mediocre strikeout rates.
  12. This has to be the only bullpen in the MLB with no one with a SO/9 over 9 (although Jepsen and May are close.) The Twins have been well behind the curve when it comes to filling up your bullpen with guys who throw 95+, but at least there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel with the flame-throwing minor leaguers who should be knocking on the door early next year.
  13. .330/.414/.549 (.962) in 440 PA, 9 HR, 65 RBI, 32 doubles, 12 triples, 16/20 SB, 55/58 BB/SO. Hoping to see Max get rewarded for his great season so far by getting a call up sometime in September.
  14. You're probably right on that. $19.75M in his final arbitration year. Wow. I wonder if the Rays tried to work out a long term deal earlier on in his career to get a few of his FA years, but that might not have even been an option with the Longoria deal, which is an unfortunate situation for the extreme small market teams.
  15. With our luck, he probably hurt the hamstring when hustling on the ball he hit off the catwalk.
  16. The Rays called David Price up on September 14, 2008, but I don't think they regret not waiting until the next year, although he might still be on the team today if they had waited.
  17. I think Sano's plate discipline and learning better when to be aggressive early in the count should help to cut down on some of his strikeouts.
  18. Could everyone stop saying "this team would get destroyed in the playoffs this year anyways so don't risk the future." This isn't the NBA, the MLB playoffs are the most random playoffs in all of sports. Once you get in, you just hope your pitching gets hot and you get some timely hits. After the WC game, the odds are roughly the same for everyone.
  19. Just wondering, if you already had 4 strikeouts in a game, wouldn't you be eager to get another AB to try to redeem yourself?
  20. Is there even that big of a difference between the stigma of 4 strikeouts versus 5?
  21. After tonight's game, maybe I should switch my choice.
  22. True, but wouldn't you rather have 5 Ks than be pinch hit for by the backup catcher?
  23. Exactly, even if Hermann was believed to have a marginally better chance to get on, it's going to take an extra base hit or multiple hits to score him and he wouldn't need any special attention paid to him at first.
  24. So pinch hitting the worst hitter on the team for him is better for his confidence?
  25. How can you justify thinking that Chris Hermann had a better chance at getting on base than Byron Buxton? I didn't think that was possible.
