  1. Astudillo's ability to put the ball in play also makes him an ideal pinch hitter with runners on base. Runner on second, no outs, tie game? How often will that happen with MLB's extra innings rule? Enter La Tortuga. Contact, even weak contact, moves the runner from second to third. Yes, Astudillo doesn't draw walks, but in this situation, moving the lead runner with contact is more important than drawing a walk and setting up a potential double play. Utilizing Astudillo's high-contact bat is likely the better tactic in a pinch.
  2. Yes, you are right. Those were the earliest of my Twins memories, especially when Roy Smalley was playing for Uncle Gene. I should have written not enough horses. Mauch was an excellent manager and would be remembered alongside other great 70's mangagers: Earl Weaver, Dick Williams Whitey Herzog, Sparky Anderson, and of course Billy Martin, but Calvin Griffith kept trading his horses, or not spending enough to add more to the stable. I cried when Smalley and Wynegar went to the Yankees, Bostock and Carew to the Angels. Mauch never broke 90 wins with those Twins teams, but saw the postseason when he went west too. Managed Carew, Doug Corbett, Rob Wilfong, and Geoff Zahn in California. Twice knocked out of the ALCS.
  3. Starting to look for Saints tickets! Excited to see Rooker, Kiriloff, and the young guns on the mound.
  4. I think this is great. Looking forward to taking the Green Line between St. Paul & Mpls for a day/night doubleheader. Enjoy another beer or two. Eat at a restaurant along the way. As for the $20M, we the fans will pay. Building CHS Field was an investment. Whether the Twins or the Saints pony up the front end, we will pay to be entertained on the back end, little by little. Tickets will go up five bucks, beers will go up too. All the same, I will gladly pay to watch Royce Lewis field, throw, run, and hit instead of Joe Bagadonuts.
  5. Saw plenty of losses in 1997 and 2001, but enjoyed Wrigley and The City with Big Shoulders.
  6. Really appreciate your podcasts. Bummed that there's no recap of the doubleheader.

  8. The Kenta Maeda trade is officially a bust! The months we gained by signing Maeda, and trading Brusdar Graterol have passed us by. Maeda will not likely pitch in 2020. IF Rich Hill an Pineda are ready, the reason for the trade is so weakened by the shutdown that I shudder to imagine what might-have-been in 2020, while Graterol adds strength and seasoning for 2021, and beyond. Face it, we lost the trade.

  10. Dealing Graterol for Maeda as a win-now formula feels like Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps.
  11. Any steam behind the Kris Bryant rumors? AKA Bryant to 3b & Sano to 1b? At what cost?
  12. "Nice to see Gordon doing well in AAA. With the success that Arraez is having, he could still be trade bait, but his value should be higher." Agreed, but I hope that the Twins get more than a rental--ala Capps for Ramos.
  13. A win today and tomorrow would be golden! Silver = 2 out of three. Avoiding a sweep in Cleveland means a bronze, methinks.
  14. Pinch me. I fell asleep in March and just woke up to find out that the Twins are leading the AL Central by five games! Am I still dreaming?
  15. Me a month ago: "Lousy back end of the bullpen! Sign Kimbrel and extend the bullpen..." Last night Craig Kimbrel pitched in his 3rd game for the Cubs. After 2.2 innings, he sports a 16.88 ERA. It's early, but I won't regret being wrong on Kimbrel. Time for me to move on to the next shiny thing while the Twins front office manages the checkbook.
  16. 6/18 Twins tied 1-1 vs. Boston. Bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th. Two out. Sano strikes out on three pitches. Ted, we have a problem.
  17. What if Rogers is done? I don't expect anyone to "like" that comment, but given the state of this bullpen, what does a 'No Rogers' bullpen look like over the balance of 2019?
  18. And, second to to a weeping spouse, a professional baseball player bore witness to his guiding faith/philosophy for life. Everything else is just a game.
  19. "(FSN) showed Eades’ wife in the stands, baby wearing their infant, crying her eyes out at seeing her husband on a major league mound for the first time. Beautiful moment to be able to witness." Lest we forget, this was the most important moment. Everything else was just a game.
