  1. New rule: before you grouse about who is on the bench, take a look at press reports to determine why that player might be on the bench. It's been known since early morning that Arcia was injured and would be sitting out. /annoyed by a dozen totally irrelevant posts about why someone who is injured is on the bench. /end cranky rant
  2. So you're predicting a 0-162 season?
  3. Your second sentence is quite right. Against Sale he's only had 21 PA's and overall is batting .238 against him. That's more than 100 basis points higher than the average lefty, as reported by Parker in the original post. Here's his line vs. White Sox pitchers: http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/5378/joe-mauer Regarding Perkins, guess who else blew as save yesterday? Joe Nathan. It cost us far less money to blow that save than it did the Tigers. Papelbon blew a save yesterday, too. Not surprised by that, but it was apparently a bad day for closers. In any event, it was the third full day of the season, and it's kind of depressing to see people getting all worked up already. In our case, we've got 160 games left. Things will be much clearer down the line.
  4. Exactly where I'm at on this. It's not like we need the money, and if he had figured something out in AAA he could have added value to our team in performance or trade value. I don't think we owed him any favors, so it's really the timing of the move that makes little sense. Absolutely no reason to do this now.
  5. As I'm sure is well known, that trade wasn't Revere for Worley. It was Revere for Worley and Trevor May. Trevor May remains one of our top pitching prospects, and from day 1 was the entire upside of that trade.
  6. I actually feel foolish even stating this, but watching his outing and thinking about his dramatic drop in performance made me wonder if he was juicing when he was with the Phillies, but is no longer doing that, and this is what he's really like without the juice. I just can't think of any logical explanations.
  7. Sample size of one at bat: Kubel just struck out, facing a right hander, swinging at a wild pitch. I'm posting just to tease, I hope all the best for Kubel. And nowhere to go but up from his first AB of spring training!
  8. Thanks for posting. Great info.
  9. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/02/17/twinsights-pedro-florimon-to-have-appendix-removed/ Glad he's going to be okay and it didn't rupture...
  10. Excellent analysis. Thanks!
  11. Fantastic event, guys. Thank you! Suggestion for next (similar) event: better audio. It was difficult to hear some of the discussion, and I was front and center. Otherwise, everything was great!
  12. How does the suspension affect his November 40-man status? Does this actually give us extra time?
  13. Nice summary. I think this is about right. The only bit with which I disagree is that I do not expect any improvement from Plouffe. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we've seen about what we can expect from him. We'll just wait for Sano to make him entirely expendable.
  14. The eagle has landed. The eagle has landed. Thanks, Brock. I assume from this I should just check the main page at 8:00 on Friday morning.
  15. How and where, exactly, will tickets go on sale? I didn't see any link or equivalent in the post. Thanks!
  16. Bingo. There's a fair catch rule in football for this very reason. An artful slide is what's called for here. If the catcher blocks the plate, that's interference, and there's a rule for that. We can change that rule, and other associated rules. But we can't change a life-altering head injury (whether one happened here is beside the point - it's a matter of time). Here's how a professional - and one who's more than capable of crushing the catcher but understands the potential consequences - gets the job done: Justin Morneau Scores on Amazing Slide at Home Plate Around Angels Catcher (GIF) | MLB | NESN.com It's baseball, not football.
  17. Those who are freaked about Pelfrey need to consider that this is his first full post-TJ season, and that he came back from recovery earlier than (I'm reasonably sure) any other pitcher previously. I'm not saying we should bet the farm on Pelfrey, but he's being discounted too quickly. If we can re-sign him at a reasonable cost he's as good or better a gamble than any of the others in our wreck of a rotation.
  18. Seriously, this is your contribution? Then in your next post you actually back up what I had originally said? Wow.
  19. Dang. Love Jamey Carroll. He's everything that's good about pro baseball - heart and hustle. I really hope the Royals can make it happen and give Jamey another shot at the post season.
