  1. It would suck to see him go out there and be a shadow of his former self and get hammered. If the Twins get him, I hope we would be spared that.
  2. Over parts of 3 seasons, Fryer has a career MLB batting average of .302. 43 AB's but hey, wouldn't Hicks have loved a .300 average after 40 ABs. He hasn't hit well in AAA in part time duty the last 2 seasons, but he has put up decent numbers before. Never paid much attention, but he looks like the ideal back up down the road if his defense is all it is cracked up to be.
  3. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for the Brewers. It's one of those contracts you could see going horribly wrong.
  4. Like Johnny Dakota's pick, but i think Willingham rebounds and unloads this year: 28. I'd like to vote Oswaldo, but until I see him fix his strike zone management, I'm taking the proven track record.
  5. If the Twins were going to blow the pick and pay big, I'd prefer E. Santana to tell the truth. Drew is a very pedestrian hitter, and not worth the investment.
  6. You are in luck. I recently came upon this youtube of Minnesota at Boston on September 30, 1967, the complete game. Apparently this is the oldest complete broadcast available in color. Great Twins line-up. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cze3fMSa84w Oh how i miss the clean green field free of ads.
  7. Good write-up Nick. I'm rooting for the Vanimal. Deduno to the pen. I'm afraid Diamond will be the odd-man out. My best hope for Gibson is that the Twins flip Correia for an asset at some point, and Gibson has pitched lights out in AAA.
  8. Great great write-up. When I think college SS, I think Nomar Garciaparra. It can happen.
  9. I did chuckle when he said he pitches to contact. Gardy and Andy will like this kid.
  10. Drew turns 31 in March - through age 33.
  11. Florimon had 446 PAs last year.
  12. Not exactly cherry picked - just the 2 seasons prior to last season in Fenway. The question is whether last year was an aberration in a career trending downward, or a return to form. Either way, I don't see him as a long-term answer to any of the Twins' offensive woes.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if Drew's 2013 numbers were inflated playing in Fenway and on a good team. What about before he came to Boston. Drew's 2012(Arizona and Oakland): 327 AB .223 BA 7HR 28 RBI .657 OPS Drew's 2011(Arizona): 354 AB .252 BA 5 HR 45 RBI .713 OPS Florimon's 2013 403 AB .221 BA 9 HR 44 RBI .611 OPS An upgrade, yeah, sure, but not a huge one. Worth millions in salary and a good draft pick? Not for me, especially given what Florimon can do with the glove. I think Drew would put up numbers more like his 2011 and 2012 playing for the Twins than what he hit last season: no green monster to turn fly balls into extra base hits.
  14. Don't get the Drew love - he isn't going to make the Twins that much better that I would give up the pick.
  15. I'd prefer Hicks in some capacity over the rest of the backups in the OF. Also, hoping Worley makes good and grabs the 5 spot. I wouldn't have a problem giving Pinto a little time in AAA.
  16. Yeah, I'd be down for an elite SS prospect. He looks crazy fast.
  17. Best case scenario - Josh hits the hell out of the ball up to the trading deadline and the Twins deal him for a nice asset. He can still live in Minnesota during the off-season
  18. I want to see what Florimon learned last season, which was his first full season in the majors. I liked want I saw in the field, and occasionally at the plate. Just modest across the board improvement, fewer errors and strikeouts, more hits and walks, makes him a pretty decent old-school MLB shortstop.
  19. So says Mike Wants Wins. Ya sure they are. When a bottle of tasteless Bud Light in a metal bottle costs more than a pint of fine local craft ale, tell me who is overrated. Summit has been expanding their capacity and their offerings, and I'd say are underrated, especially compared to Surly. Their Unchained Series has been excellent. BTW, I totally agree that the 7th inning stretch should be Take Me Out. I'm going to a ball game, not church or a patriotic rally. Supposed to be fun, right?
  20. My initial reaction was, "right, another toolsy HS outfielder." I don't remember who I wanted them to take. He won me over right away though with his post draft reaction and comments.
  21. Speaking of beer - don't make me walk all the way from left field to right field to find good beer. I don't want Bud or Lite or any of that. Gimme good homegrown Surly and Summit, and sell it all over the stadium instead of a single place.
  22. I like the fact that he even had a high five for the mascot
  23. He was kind of a throwback player to me - one position, one team, outstanding career. I got sick to death of the Yankees in the post-season all those years, and by association Jeter as well, but they did have a nice core of home grown guys that played their whole careers there, Williams, Posada, Rivera, Jeter. End of the day, it's hard to hate on guys of that caliber.
  24. This might be a good time for potential season ticket holders to check out the upper deck in left field for seats.
  25. Also, the Twins have 3 prospects above the Royals top guy, and 4 above Detroit and Chicago's top guys, although Chicago will likely get a prize this upcoming draft. Granted, Detroit will be contending for a championship this season, so it's a hollow victory there. The White Sox on the other hand, it may be a long time before they finish above Minnesota again.
