  1. necessitated by Ryan not nailing Santana down earlier...
  2. Especially when the ball is hit through the infield and the CF fields the ball :-)
  3. ...and a 30HR gold glove CF, and a 20HR 100 RBI RF...
  4. We've had the same scouting director since 2007. Yes, there's been a change in GM...but it's not as if Ryan isn't responsible for some of problems we've seen from 2011 till now in the way of talent, or lack thereof...dating back to before he left the first time...
  5. Nah, let's give them another five years to build this thing, then see where we sit :-)
  6. We also had the Cy Young winner, a top 3 closer, a gold glove 30 HR hitting CF, and a 20+ HR, 100 RBI RF....and, like you said, Ryan did absolutely nothing to try and get the team over the hump. I believe the goal has been, for a long time now, to try and build a competitive team within the division, with zero concern about building a team that could actually win the W Series.
  7. It's everyone's fault so it's no one's person's fault and so everyone gets defended...as if they weren't even part of the problem...and it continues.
  8. Targeting the cheapest possible targets for the shortest amount of time to fill vacant holes...or, basically, using the same failed strategy as last year. I'm waiting for him to again tell us that he'll do everything he can to significantly improve the rotation.
  9. It's funny you say that. One another site, a fan was talking about how he thought Gardy was better this year at utilizing his relief corp and pointed out their collective ERA. I put up the same info I put here and wrote: 'That seems to suggest, at least to me, that he's waiting too long to use his relief corp.' And I really can't see an argument otherwise. If the bullpen ERA is as good as it is, but they allow that high a % of inherited runners to score, then the manager is not working his relief corp well...he's leaving the starters in too long. At the same time, a good bullpen, stops the bleeding.
  10. Completely predictable. Thanks for the link.
  11. Most disturbing part was that I wasn't surprised it could happen....no shock at all that it did...
  12. It's an ego thing...he, and many, took an unusual path of thinking that playing the piranha way was something to aspire to and took pride in being the little team that could instead of aspiring to be the great white shark. By calling the As that, he saying they are doing things the right way, the Twins way...
  13. I wanna make sure I get the sentiment some seem to have. We've had a team that's gonna have three consecutive seasons of losing 90 or more games...and it's nobody's fault? Not ownerships fault, not the GM, not the field manager, not scouting, not developing? Are we to believe the GM did the best he could to put a competitor out there, and it just didn't work out? If so, why didn't it? Is it because the manager couldn't get these pieces to work? No? Why isn't it that? If it's not that, is it because we want to say he couldn't do it with so little talent? And if that's why we can't blame him because he had so little talent to work with, doesn't it go back to the person responsible for talent on the club again? This ship just went off course and continues to stay off course just out of the blue and for no reason whatsoever? No one is to blame? From 94 wins to the carper for three seasons straight with a another season (at least) likely, and no one is to blame. BTW, people keep saying we are rebuilding. What are we doing that other teams, who aren't in rebuilding mode, AREN'T doing? We're drafting...everyone drafts. We're signing international talent, so is everyone else. Aren't we just waiting and praying to the Gods that a seriously higher than normal percentage of our prospects end up above average of better? We did the two trades...the Span and Revere ones...but besides that, what exactly are we doing differently from teams that retool or are right in the thick of things?
  14. That doesn't happen with every player. I was 5 foot 10 as a freshman and only added one more inch. I stayed within 5 pounds of the same weight until I stopped playing baseball in my mid-20s. Dude is already 6'5. If he gets to 215-220. he's still good to go there if he's already as fluid as is being said at 6 foot 5.
  15. SI says this about HS shortstop Jacob Gatewood: Perkin likens Gatewood (6-foot-5, 190 pounds) to a young Troy Tulowitzki and calls him a "once-in-a-decade talent," noting his fastball reaches 92 mph on the mound, his "ballet-like fielding skills" and his prodigious power.
  16. Perfect. Thanks for the respectful response.
  17. That's three signed
  18. I'm guessing that was meant to be funny. :-)
  19. That park is horrible...it was bad in the mid-80s...I used to go there quite a bit. Yuck.
  20. where did you find this quote from Span?
  21. A dozen games? You believe that a team that hits this poorly, fields this poorly, and pitches this poorly would have a winning record right now if not for the umpires?
  22. Only one bullpen in the AL has allowed a higher % of inherited runs than ours and only one AL team has allowed more inherited runs to score. Expand that out to all of MLB, only 3 MLB teams have allowed a higher % of inherited runs to score than ours and only one MLB team has allowed more inherited runs to score. Our bullpen ranks 5th in inherited runners.
  23. There are 95 pitchers who have pitched at least 140 innings this year. Amongst those 95, Pelfrey ranks 93rd in ERA.
  24. IMO, the season was toast as soon as the rotation was set.
  25. I believe Mauer figured with the new stadium that the payroll would run around 100M. That should leave plenty of money to build a team around him. On top of that, without signing him, I believe revenue would have taken a good size hit anyway. Point is, his salary isn't stopping them from doing anything. Certainly isn't making them continue to drop payroll.
