  1. Liriano pitched extremely well last night!
  2. That is fantastic!
  3. So you have no actual proof he has 'sort of veto power' based on any quotes, you discard actual quotes I do provide, and you can't explain what 'sort of veto power' entails based on situations where it happened? What makes you believe he has sort of veto power?
  4. Or how many people actually attended as opposed to sold tickets
  5. I added another quote, here it is: QUOTE TO NOTE: "Back when I was over at the Metrodome in '07, we did a lot of stat work, but it wasn't with the depth that he certainly provides for us. It's different. And he's got some statistical things that I don't believe in, and he's got a lot of things that I do believe in." -- General manager Terry Ryan, on the team's work with advanced statistics and the influence of Jack Goin, the team's director of baseball research. And I don't know what sort of veto power is or where it's been said Jack Goin has it. Having said that, yes, I do think Ryan is going to, in the end, go with his own judgement. As he said in the quote above, there are things he doesn't believe in that Goin shows him. If one of the things Ryan doesn't believe in is why Goin is saying it's a bad personnel move, Ryan is going to do it anyway...since he's the boss.
  6. "We had plenty going around down there in that Nashville suite (at the Winter Meetings)," Ryan said. "(It was) 'OK, Jack, what do you think?' He gives us his input, and some guys don't believe it and some do. But he is an integral part of this baseball operation. I don't think I'd do a thing on a trade scenario or a free agent acquisitionhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png without giving him his due on exactly what he thinks." He's never, ever, said Jack Goin has veto power... QUOTE TO NOTE: "Back when I was over at the Metrodome in '07, we did a lot of stat work, but it wasn't with the depth that he certainly provides for us. It's different. 7. This is the second time in the last two or three days that you've said the Twins have millions of loyal and knowledgeable fans, then right after say something that seemingly classifies others are not. Are there people on here you're referring to that you don't think meet this criteria because they disagree with your point of view or Ryan's point of view/plan of action? Oh, and BTW, show all of us the poster(s) who said they want to sign free agents to 6 year 147M contracts.
  8. So, we're on a 5 year rebuild plan? I thought earlier you said Ryan has only rebuilt once...and he was successful. Didn't that take closer to 10 years? How is this plan a five year plan? Has he put that out there...said he has a 5 year plan? Where does that number come from?
  9. Ranking baseball?s farm systems That was at the beginning of 2011..had us at #6. Ranking the 30 Minor League Systems | FanGraphs Baseball That had us 15th at the beginning of 2012. 2012 Baseball Farm System Rankings - Minor League Ball Had us at 17th, so ever so slightly below average. So, you are right...and thanks for the correction. As far as the rest, I didn't even say division championship...I said competitive within the division. If a division chmpionship happens, awesome, but we've seen the team downgrade after having very good teams instead of getting aggressive to get the pieces to push us over the top (especially after the 2006 and 2010 seasons). They were so good, surely we can cut some talent down and still stay competitive in the division, seemed to be what they were saying. In any event, don't wait until the supposed right time to get talent. Don't think one part of the diamond is covered so we don't need to pursue talent there. How many times have we read we don't need OF help? WHY? Look at the Tigers. They could have said we have two very good starting pitchers why go get more, but they go after more and more great starting pitching...the kind that's looking towards the playoffs. Their #6 pitcher would likely be our #1. Same thing with position players. Owner says go get Fielder, they get him. Go get Hunter. Go get. They wanted a team that is built to truly compete in the playoffs. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but the effort is there. Now, understand, I get the whole thing that, somehow, we don't have the same fund available to us that Detroit has, but the effort is there. That owner wants a W Series winner, and it shows.
  10. If you have to hope that everything goes right in order to even be competitive, the team you built isn't that good to begin with. Players have off years, players get injured, the 'what if' game is a good way to feel better about the talent, but it doesn't really change anything. A team needs to add talent, talent and more talent in all ways possible all the time. Quality depth is good.
  11. The farm system, when Ryan took over from Smith, was top 10. Mother Hubbard's cupboard was hardly bare. It's gotten better MOSTLY due to us being so bad the last couple years so we could land guys like Buxton and Stewart. And I'll maintain this belief until proven other-wise. Ryan's ultimate goal is to build a team to be competitive WITHIN THE DIVISION, and do it as cheaply as possible. This keeps fan interest, so fans keep showing up, and keeps payroll lower. This is why he keeps preaching meaningful games in September. How about some meaningful games in October...even better, late October...
  12. Blind faith. I don't understand how someone's blind faith can somehow be stated as fact though. Have blind faith, just don't try to pass it off as fact....that's all I'm sayin'.
  13. And why will our wait be much shorter? You state it as fact, so why? Because of our farm system? Pitt and KC both had great farm systems for quite some time, especially KC. In fact, KC was the cool pick preseason after preseason to finally be relevant. They FINALLY were this year. It's different with us because we're the Twins?
  14. this quote made me laguh...“We probably have to go out to the market to supplement the roster for 2014,” Pohlad said. “I think [Ryan] is enthusiastic about doing that.” Overall, the article made me sick. But hey, you gotta like an executive of a huge company that says, 'for gosh sakes'. :-)
  15. Well, Ryan did say he's do everything possible to significantly improve the rotation for this year. So if it wasn't designed to be fixed in 2013, why did he say that at the season ticket holder conference and how wouldn't saying that, if it wasn't meant to be fixed in 2013, not be viewed as disingenuous?
  16. Well, Mackey did a pretty good job deservedly slamming Ryan for what he said...well as much as anyone does slam Ryan.
  17. If they bring up another coach, and I haven't heard they will, they'll bring in someone from within the organization or someone with serious ties to the Twins. If they wanted fresh blood from outside the organization they'd start with the manager and new coaches almost entirely, if not entirely, across the board.
  18. Who has said that? Who are 'all the people'?
  19. Lot of crazy things have happened in the last 24 hours. :-)
  20. If it's all about the talent on the field and nothing at all to do with how the coaches and manager do their jobs, why was Jerry White fired? Serious question. The FIRST BASE COACH was somehow a big enough contributor to losing HE was fired? Oh and Stelmaszek as well.
  21. Is this actually true?
  22. I heard something yesterday that I couldn't believe. I mean, I knew we had been very bad the last three years but I didn't realize our winning percentage in the 2nd half of 2011, 2012, and 2013 all started with a 3 Imagine how bad it would have been if the players HAD quit on Gardy...
  23. Especially in our division from '02-'12. Might give a team an inflated record...
  24. Well, I'm not sure it proves anything nor can anyone say it's a FACT he would have had other offers within a day of getting canned. I'm sorry, I mean of course they can say it...one can say anything...they just have absolutely no way to prove the supposed fact.
  25. What I'd really like to know is whether or not Pinto can play the OF. Seems to be a requirement for Twins catchers... and in the Q&A with Ryan, he said Pelfrey was one of the positives for the season. In fact, he was the first player named by Ryan followed by Correia, if I remember correctly..
