  1. Clearly the manager makes a difference.
  2. So, Mrs. Lincoln, besides THAT, how did you like the play?
  3. Imagine how bad the pitching would have been if Ryan HADN'T done everything possible to significantly improve the starting pitching.
  4. Not so well for their manager, who was fired after only two seasons of the team's futility.
  5. and many will give Ryan all the credit and still scapegoat Smith...
  6. We need to stop short-changing how bad it's been the last 3 years. it's three consecutive seasons of 96 or more losses. 90+ makes is seem less futile than it's actually been
  7. Very, very happy for Cuddy!
  8. It's easy to have Smith as the scapegoat...he's not in charge anymore.
  9. Hey is this true? From 2002-2011, the Yankees beat the Twins every time they faced them in the first round of the playoff...and lost to every other team they faced in the first round of the playoffs
  10. The pyth isn't fact. It's an estimation of record based on runs scored and runs allowed...giving teams extra credit for blowout wins as if a win isn't a win. It's like the college football ranking system, considering points scored as part of the equation for determining who plays for the national championship. As if running the score up on severely weak teams proves anything.
  11. I don't hold pyth projections as gospel. I think it's silly to do so. Looking at the actual talent on the teams, the Twins were usually the best team, talent-wise, in the division from 2002-2010.
  12. I've wanted him gone since around August 2007...I guess I'll be waiting even longer.
  13. How did his good teams manage to overachieve? They had, for pretty much Gardy's tenure up to and including 2010, the best talent of any team in the AL Central.
  14. Wasn't everyone saying that about the Orioles before Buck showed up and about the Indians before Francona showed up?
  15. What would be awesome is that, after seeing the decision Ryan made about gardy, that the Pohlads fire him and Gardy. That's a dream cause we all know he didn't re-sign him without discussing it with ownership first, but it's good to have dreams...
  16. The offers they made to Hunter they knew he wouldn't take...not after ignoring him all offseason prior to 2007 when he wanted an extension and certainly not after the Castillo trade. Those offers were for show. Having said that, I don't think those decisions were racially motivated.
  17. So who gets fired this year? Ball boys? Equipment manager? Head of the Grounds Crew?
  18. "We haven't had the success we've been looking for," Ryan said. "No one is passing the buck other than that we know where we're at and we know where we want to get. And unfortunately, we're just not there. "But we're closer than people believe. But it's tough to explain that in September when we're 25 games behind the Detroit Tigers."
  19. Come on. No one is actually surprised Gardy wasn't fired by Ryan, are they?
  20. Rhett Bollinger just posted an article saying the same thing on the Twins MLB website...
  21. What's weird is that just a couple offseasons ago, Gardy was talking about how players were defensive with him...didn't want to hear what he had to say and he even mentioned the players talking about him throwing them under the bus. Now, magically, they all want him back. What are they supposed to say? What would you expect them to say?
  22. oh, come on now, we fired the bullpen and 1B coach last year...2011 and 2012, totally on them...oh, and injuries of course...as Ryan pointed out in the Q&A :-)
  23. It's against site policy to say a person involved in this organization is purposely dishonest so, no, I wouldn't say that.
