  2. When Hardy came back healthy in the 2nd half, he hit over .300 and OPSd over .800...and he had a UZR of 7.4. Smith traded him because Gardy wanted more speed. Gardy had even said Casilla would compete with Hardy for the shortstop spot (that was before Hardy was traded). Smith was clear he traded Hardy because Gardy requested more speed at shortstop.
  3. How is our 2014 salary already 68M?
  4. GiDP is, perhaps, the most worthless stand alone stat in the game. The league leaders are very often (not always) some of the best hitters in the game who make contact often. Last year, the triple crown winning MVP lead the majors in GiDP. The top two teams in GiDP last year were playoff teams. Even if someone has 25 in a season, we're talking less than 5% of PAs.
  5. If you don't mind having the worst rotation in baseball and losing 95+ games again, then that rotation will be fine.
  6. It was clearly tongue in cheek.
  7. I'm rooting for the Pirates because of Justin. He was my favorite Twin since the moment he came up and I'm so happy for him he gets this chance.
  8. What's the reason Mauer should have been brought back this year if he was healthy enough to do so? The customers. The customers pay to see pro players play the game...and he's one of the best and certainly the best we have by a good margin. In Minnesota, a big reason for the fans to come to the game is to see the local guy, Mauer, play.
  9. In 2015, the starting lineup should have some talent...but they'll still be adjusting to the league, which some will do eventually and some won't do at all...and the pitching the same way. We keep being told by some (not you) that the parade is coming in 2015, but that is extremely unrealistic...look how long KC had really high rated farm systems. They are finally, FINALLY, getting there.
  10. Simple answer to that...simply because he said they would. He said that last offseason too, and it was believed then too.
  11. I have to respectfully ask, what do you think he was saying when he said 'We are hobbyist and to presume we know more than the people with considerable credentials in this professionals is a bit naracistic. ' I don't see how you can read that, with it ending in 'narcissistic' (I corrected the spelling), and then say my quote you quoted is massively exaggerating what he was saying. Then his whole 2nd paragraph expounds on that statement.
  12. The Twins payroll will be lower than the payroll we started the season with...and 2015 will be too.
  13. If I go to a fancy restaurant as a customer, and I find the food to be bad, I wouldn't expect the chef to come and tell me it is good, that I don't know what I'm talking about, and to be quiet and eat it. I don't need to be a chef to know the product I'm spending money on isn't up to my liking. If I buy a brand new car and it keeps breaking down, I don't need to be a car manufacturer to know the car I bought isn't up to standards. How many people have slammed President Bush for going to War because they believe it was about oil instead of 9-11? How many blame him because no WMDs were found in Iraq once we got there? Were they sitting in on the meetings? Did the get the intelligence briefings, the military briefings, etc, etc...? Nope...but many sure feel that he made a really bad call! How many of them have been President? In this day and age, to suggest people can't be educated on something and have very valid complaints simply because they've never done the job, is ludicrous.
  14. He deserves some love for sure...the guy is a beast on defense....but I don't think he will this year.
  15. In the NL, they were like 4th in runs scored...outscoring the Dodgers and the Pirates...and 3rd in OPS.
  16. He went 4-4, with #5 and #7 being debatable based on people's expectations/perceptions. That's pretty darn good. For me, neither #5 not #7 were true...but for some one or both may have been.
  17. Overall, Trout was even better offensively than last year. Dude is a beast. Over at Fangraphs they took a poll of a few MLB players asking them who they thought was the best player in MLB. Half said Trout, half said Cabrera, and no one else was mentioned.
  18. Team didn't have much of a choice but to sign him...not really...not with the story they sold to the public to get the new ballpark. Not sign the local boy done great? No way that signing doesn't happen. It was a good business decision for many reasons...between the PR, the on-field production, ticket sales (and everything that comes with it), etc... On top of that, it wasn't Ryan who signed him. Ryan told us the Willingham signing was a big money signing...doing the Mauer contract might have killed him...or given him a better perspective on what quality FA (or pending FA) players truly cost.
  19. Showing support for your team doesn't need to include just accepting everything your team's management says or does as the right thing, either. I support our President, because he's our President, but I don't particularly care for him or think he's doing a great job. Still support him though.
  20. It's the same way Gardy is with the media on those few occasions when a reporter has the stones to question his in-game strategy...
  21. From ESPN the Sweet Spot: 'Dusty Baker has managed 20 years in the major leagues and won just three postseason series. Including Wednesday's wild-card loss to the Pirates, he's 3-7 in postseason series with an overall win-loss record of 19-26. He's had success in the regular season -- three manager of the year awards, five division titles, 16th all time in wins and he's won 90-plus games three of the past four years with the Reds -- but the lack of results in the playoffs finally cost him his job, even though he had another year on his contract. It's the right decision. '
  22. He hasn't mentioned them by name, but he has pointed to the farm system and said help is on the way. On top of being unwilling to get quality FAs, being unwilling to trade quality prospects for proven MLB talent and the lack of quality players on the MLB roster to trade for quality MLB talent/quality prospects, it boils down his words, mixed with his action/inaction, to saying...wait for the prospects.
  23. Sure he can...we can clearly see that people buy into that...just wait for the all the prospects we know for sure will be very good...going to be competitive when they all show up. He can also say both of them are available in a trade...some will buy into that too, because he said it. There are people who just complete faith in him and will buy into anything he says and does. As fans, that's certainly their right to do so.
  24. What form do you believe 35 year old Willingham should return to? The career year he had for us at age 33? Doumit's OPS the last 5 years have been .714, .738, .830 (only half a season), .781 and .710. What do you think is reasonable to expect from him? Where are these three average to above average starting pitchers going to come from? We needed them last year too. We were told last offseason the rotation would be greatly improved. This isn't a new need. Hicks and Arcia...yes...we need them to develop...for long term.
