  1. Most of those guys were signed/drafted before Ryan came back Well, actually, 5 of those guys weren't. But you're right that Smith did a solid job in international signings and his drafts haven't finished producing yet. My apologies...I meant of our top prospects... And I don't think we'll get Appel
  2. Wouldn't it be fun to have Willingham in left, Parm in center, and Doumit in right? That would be interesting :-)
  3. So it's important for us to know our place? What excuse did ownership use to trick, er, convince the taxpayers that the new park was needed?
  4. The bottle? :-) I did that... I'm a happy drunk... It only raised my sunny disposition. If you look at it, Benson or Hicks will have to be with the team. We only have one guy on the 25 man that can play CF
  5. Most of those guys were signed/drafted before Ryan came back
  6. The last three major supposed ST battles we had, the winner (by stats at least) didn't get the job. Span losing to Gomez Harris losing to Punto Slowey posting the best ERA of all 6 SPs. I have a hard time believing we actually have ST battles
  7. "Let's make something very clear. Billy Butler, Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez and Alcides Escobar signed here long-term with the full expectation that we, as a baseball operations department, would do everything that we can to put the best team on the field every single night," Moore said. "That's what we've committed to our fans, that's what we've committed to our players, so when an opportunity comes along that you can acquire a pitcher like James Shields and Wade Davis, we have to do it."
  8. Might as well let him struggle during a year like the one we're gonna have
  9. Yes there are people who believe they will
  10. Hicks posted an OPS of .844 in AA... Hunter's was below .800 Hicks posted a .829 OPS in A ball Hunter's was below .800. Hicks minor league slash line: .271/.379/..421 (makes a .800 OPS) Hunter's was: .270/.334/.417 (OPS .751)
  11. Isn't Revere just a younger version of Bourn? Decent BA, low OBP, fast, above average defender (overall, yes Revere's arm stinks) very little power. Bourn doesn't seem to be much better than Revere and Span is better.
  12. Trading Revere frees up less than a million, to be replaced presumably by someone at half a million - how does this allow the Twins to spend what it takes to get a top starter? Probably cause it allowed us to fill a spot in this year's rotation for almost nothing (difference between Revere's and Worley's contract) so now the available money doesn't have to be spread out so much, allowing the quality of pitchers to, hypothetically, go up
  13. I believe two or three years down the road, we'll agree Meyer was the best of the three players received in these two trades. Span is a much better player than Revere and the Twins got a very good pitching prospect for him. Revere is a 4th OF talent who netted a possible #3 pitcher for the next 5 years and a future pitcher...so help now and later. So while the Span trade got us the better talent, the disparity between Revere's talent and what we got for him, make that trade better when looking at what we got compared to what we gave up.
  14. Ah, yes, the whole compete thing. Hey guys, if you really wanna win, make sure you do the worst...
  15. Now the question is.....WHO?! I'm hoping Marcum. Marcum, Worley, Diamond and Gibson in the front 4. Not great, but it's a start...
  16. Bingo. The Phillies could have afforded a Bourn but got Revere on my "percentage of salary valuation" argument basis. No question though, Twins got a great trade. I'm excited that they have finally folded their cards and prepared for 2014/15. Philly very likely can't afford Bourn or Hamilton
  17. Well, Ryan was able to totally bone Philly who was desperate for a cheap CF with major league experience...so maybe, maybe not.
  18. Meyer is a better prospect than May. But given how many pitchers the Twins need in both the short and long term, it's impossible not to love this deal. I said I loved this trade...
  19. Unless they bring Hicks up and he does what he's capable of doing...heck bring up Hicks and Arcia now....which is what I wanted all along
  20. I like what they got for Revere considering what Revere was but I believe Meyer will end up better than both of the guys we got for Revere. I do love this trade though...partly cause I don't feel we lost much...but also because it addresses pitching for the present and future. Ryan robbed the Phillies GM, which is fun to see.
  21. Here's to hoping it happens!
  22. Actually, John's point seems to be that your second favorite choice is already sold out so now it's go big or go home. I think Birdwatcher's point, and mine too, is that Honeycrisp apples are delicious!
