  1. So, after the 2010 season of 94 wins, we didn't sign any pitchers to improve our pitching staff even though we were a first place team, had money...so we should be an ideal spot for FA pitcher. Why no signing then? What's the excuse then? I'm guessing, because the team did well they didn't feel the need to upgrade the rotation? Cause first place teams almost always rest on their laurels on pitching after fluke seasons by some pitchers? What about after 2009? First place team, 26th ranked rotation. Ideal spot for FA pitching, right? First place team...Who'd we sign in the offseason after 2009? What about getting even one top notch pitcher in FA after 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006? first place teams, all ideal spots for FA pitchers. I'm guessing that was because our staff was good enough? Or was it because we didn't have money then?
  2. Only need to go 5 inngs to be pitcher of record...no need to go into the 6th inning to get a win
  3. I don't see how looking at the rotation we had in Dec 2011 is FAR SUPERIOR to the rotation we're looking at now is what I'm saying. Obviously others disagree.
  4. His words were 'far superior', not 'looked better'.
  5. Are you kidding? Who thought our rotation was anything but junk going into the 2012 season? We had the 26th ranked rotation in the majors in 2011 and added Marquis. It was a disaster way before April
  6. it's unfortunate you need to have a facebook account now to comment there
  7. So, there really are people really believe in this kind of strategy to build a rotation?
  8. I never, EVER, expected Terry Ryan to make a big signing. On top of that, signing a bunch of pitchers like these and hoping some have a miraculous season is an act of desperation.
  9. Did it also lead to his TJ surgery?
  10. I wish I could say I was surprised
  11. Next year, if both May and Meyer make a huge jump, we could see May, Meyer, Gibson, Worley and Diamond...and be paying less than 5M for our rotation. WIllingham will likely be gone...as will Morneau... So, Mauer's salary aside, all the other starters could very well have a salary less than a million..except Correia and Doumitt, if they aren't gone too. I'm sure I'm missing someone...but the point is pretty clear I think
  12. How much will we be paying our rotation this year?
  13. What's that number look like when you only look at players past their arbitration years?
  14. I don't dislike this signing in a bubble; however, after getting Correia and Worley this is likely the final touch to the rotation while we made our offense worse along with our OF defense worse. Additionally, we have yet to touch the IF. Just means another disappointing season coming...gotta look forward...and pray a huge percentage of who we are counting on work out...
  15. payroll flexibility?
  16. Ryan doing what he does best...slashing payroll while trying to build for the future.
  17. Punto's playing time dropped after he left here because those teams' managers knew he's best used sparingly. If Schumaker hadn't gotten hurt in 2011, he would have played even less
  18. So Hicks/Benson in CF with Willingham and Parmellee on the corners is better defense than Willingham, Span and Revere? I can't agree with it being better...sure isn't a lot better. Now if Hicks AND Benson are playing in the OF, it's close
  19. we lost Span and Revere (making our offense and OF defense worse), got Worley, Pelfrey and Correia...and all of a sudden we're close to a .500 team? Ah, the offseason optimism...
  20. There were a few factors as to why he's didn't pay at catcher as much as he usually does. Morny needed rest recovering from the concussion. They told him that if he wore himself out, he could see the symptoms resurface. So they DH him or completely rest him, especially earlier in the season. Mauer was the best choice to fill in for him...and the decision was made even easier by actually having a real backup in Doumit. And then, you know, Butera needed his time too once Gardy got his 3rd catcher on board. I believe that from 2005-2010, only one player whose primary position is catcher played more total games and none had more plate appearances overall. Over the years, if Gardy didn't have the DH available, Mauer would have seen even more time behind the plate. It's important to remember though, that catchers just don't play 162. The position is too physically demanding. The most games started last year at catcher was 136...by an NL catcher.
  21. He went to the bullpen without complaint, tried and couldn't adjust. Then he said something. This after posting the best ERA out of all 6 candidates for the rotation in spring training and losing a rotation spot. Remember Baker wasn't even considered for bullpen because they said he couldn't handle the transition. That was okay though, cause that was their call. Well, neither could Slowey. I don't see him as the bad guy in that situation.
  22. 'Uh, no we're not all in agreement that Revere was a better CF. Span's positioning and his initial read made up for being slightly less faster than Revere. {I have this sense posters equate Revere with Usian Bolt and every other Twins' OF ranges from snail to turtle--Span is fast!}' Bravo! Span was rated as the 3rd best defensive CF in the game this year, yet people act like he's pedestrian. After watching Span play CF this year and Revere last year in place of injured Span, I say Span is the better CF. Many of Revere's 'great' plays were only made great by him misplaying the ball off the bat to begin with and taking bad routes. Not saying Revere isn't a very good defender...got better this year for sure...but Span is better. Span just isn't as flashy. As far as the rest of the post...I agree with some of it, some other stuff not so much. For example, while I do belief the 2008 ST battle for CF was a farce, I think management told Gardy, you are gonna play Gomez in CF. (because of the Santana trade...saving face). You know me, I'm no Gardy backer, but I think in that instance, his hands were tied. I also don't think he wanted Santana gone
  23. Article on the Twins MLB page says Correia is penciled in as our #4 pitcher. Who are the three in front of him? Diamond, Worley and who?
  24. Apparently the reason is there's been a snag is wording in the contract... 'It’s presumed the Sox are seeking to add language in the contract that will shield them against pre-existing injuries for the 31-year-old, who has been on the disabled list five times during his seven-year major league career.'
  25. I love the Ground Round...especially on Fridays...free all you can eat wings, trivia contest, and drink specials. All this went on for like 2 1/2 hours. Used to be a regular start to the weekend in the late 90s-early 00s
