  1. And he just turns 30 next year..and, yeah, he has 1,270 hits... that's why I wrote he was 730 hits away from 2000 :-)
  2. Except all the things he's done...as a catcher...as him being the ONLY catcher to EVER do, won't go away even if he's playing less catcher as his career goes on. BTW, it's Gardy who has him playing less catcher. Having Doumit there to fill in, Butera needing his playing time too, and with Morneau needing to play less at 1B due to doctor's recommendation, Mauer was the best choice to fill in. But, by your post, you can tell you just dislike the guy...you really don't have much of an argument
  3. Pedro is a 100% lock...so is Piazza.
  4. No catcher has as many as 2700 hits... Only 8 catchers have 2000 or more hits...be shocked if he doesn't get there. 730 to go.
  5. I keep getting told money is definitely not a reason why good pitchers won't come here...being told I'm basically stupid to think money could even be one contributing factor amongst other factors for pitchers not coming here....so, yeah, I think there are people who claim cutting payroll isnt priority one. We'd spend if they'd just come here... :-)
  6. Over on the MLB Twins site, Rhett wrote an article about how our starting staff was bad mostly due to injuries...so, it makes sense we'd pick up the kind of pitchers we did this offseason...pure examples of durability and health...
  7. Nishioka wasn't playing shortstop when that happened...Casilla was. Nishioka was playing 2B. Nishioka wasn't brought in to play SS, he was brought in to play 2B cause Gardy wanted Casilla at shortstop and they didn't like Nishi's arm for shortstop. This was said in December, but after enough questions were asked, they had to go through the circus of their ST battles to 'see where each one would play'. Shockingly, they decided on what they had said right when they got Nishi. I know, right? A sham ST battle in Twins territory. Who knew? However, as things go on this team, they switched Nishi over to shortstop when he came back off the injury...in part because Gardy's answer for shortstop, Casilla, was a horrible shortstop, so he went back to where he plays best, 2B...and it left us with Nishi at SS. If they had left Casilla at shortstop and Nishi at 2B, we would have been horrible defensively at both spots. With Casilla at 2B and Nishi at shortstop, we were only horrible at one. Unfortunately, it was the more important one...
  8. In reference to our 2007 payroll being in the 71.4M. Inflation calculator says that equals 79.28M today. And that's just normal inflation...before considering how much MLB players' salary has increased. So if payroll sits in the high 70s or even mid 80s this upcoming season, why did we need the new park again? Of course, I love the new park, but why was it needed?
  9. ESPN did it's team power rankings...Twins are ranked 28th. This was the write-up: 'Kevin Correia, Vance Worley, Mike Pelfrey ... what, Rich Robertson and Sean Bergman weren't available?'
  10. Only catcher to have three batting titles. Only AL Catcher to win a batting title. Only catcher to lead the majors in BA. Only catcher to lead his league in BA/OBP/SLG in same year. In '09 became the 1st player in the AL to lead the league in BA/OBP/SLG since 1980. One MVP. Silver Slugger Gold Gloves. slash line of .323/.405/.468 Not even 30 yet. and after all that, we're still wondering if he'll be a HOFer?
  11. Doesn't mean Diamond won't be that 5th guy...he's not even arbitration eligible till 2015. He's gonna be around awhile
  12. Just throwing this out there...take it for what it's worth. ESPN ranked TF as the 10th best hitter's park in 2012
  13. Only 7 of his 25 HR in 2010 were to RF and only 3 were to RF in 2011. Even though those are season stats, not TF specific, they would seem to support your theory.
  14. Do you see the prices getting any lower in the future?
  15. Right now, we only have Maestro who can play CF. That means Benson or Hicks will make they team (likely Benson). If Benson comes up, they'll start him to see what he can do and Maestro will be the 4th OF. Obviously Hicks, in the unlikely event they start the season with him in the Bigs, obviously will start. I can't see Benson being promoted and sitting in favor of Maestro.
  16. Then maybe one should also call out the people who say that the only reason, or even the main reason, quality FA pitcher don't sign here is because we are a last place team. Where's the empirical proof in that. Have pitchers said that? The difference between that speculation and the speculation you dislike so much is one of them slams Ryan and the other lets him off the hook. It's all speculation to varying degrees, but you seem to only have issue with the speculations that slam Ryan. Thing is, now we're seeing Jackson about to be signed by a team worse than ours. Not a last place team, mind you...but a team that finished 5 games worse than ours. Could it be because the Cubs made the best offer and he took it, regardless of them losing over 100 games last year and over 90 the year before?
  17. And it looks like they're gonna add Jackson. I find it amazing they can add Feldman, Jackson and Villaneuva. I mean, they lost 5 more games than we did last year and have only missed being in last the last three years cause they had the Astros in their division. How can they possibly attract an Edwin Jackson when we know the only reason the Twins can't sign players like that is cause we're so bad?
  18. I hope they keep Arcia...of all the prospects close to hitting the Bigs, I'm most excited to see him with the big club
  19. Tell that to Dale Murphy :-)
  20. Based on the history he's already made, the stuff he's already done that no one else at his position has, I'd be shocked beyond belief if he didn't make it
  21. of course Ryan has interest in him...he stinks...he'll fit right in with the rest of the bargain basement 'talent' he's acquired for the rotation this offseason.
  22. I applaud the time and effort you took to do this blog
  23. How do you figure it's still all speculation with absolutely no proof? The person I was responding to said we can't sign FAs because we're a last place team. So I asked why we didn't sign any top FA pitching when we were first place teams. Did we do that and I missed it? Saying we can't sign anyone because we're a last place team is simplistic...because we were a first place team before and didn't sign any top notch pitching. That includes the offseason prior to going into TF and the first offseason after being in TF. But I get it, it's all Bill Smith's fault. Ryan couldn't sign anyone last offseason after being only one year removed from back to back first place finishes with the most recent of the two first place finishes scoring 94 wins. His team was also in TF ....and instead of getting pitching, he cut payroll. Oh wait, he got Marquis. Thing is, if one tries, there's always a reason to throw out there as to why we didn't sign any quality starting pitching through free agency. If we win the division, they won't go sign quality starting pitching because the rotation was good enough to win the division, if we don't and play horribly, well no pitcher wants to come play here. In the meantime, they cut payroll 18M last offseason and have cut more this offseason.
