  1. Mauer could play 3rd base right now. He takes hundreds of ground balls every spring at 3rd and doesn't miss. I was kind of surprised they didn't move him there and bring back Morneau. Sano is the reason he's at first.
  2. I'd think if there is continuing pain we'd know about it pretty soon. He's working out in the weight room now under the eyes of Perry C. and other trainers. If they spot something he would be shut down.
  3. No particular reason other than what you just pointed out. I'd like to see us start the season competitive right from the get go. Giving these guys a month or two into the season to see if the hope they improve doesn't cut it with me. It's time to fish or cut bait.
  4. Sano's down here rehabing, and hopefully that will do it. Only time will tell now. The medical staff probably doesn't know either. I'd think if he gets thru spring training ok, he'll be fine. If not, a season is shot but he'd be ready to go next spring. In the long run, I'd give Sano a better career than Buxton, but then again, only time will tell.
  5. I think he's hoping to much for guys like Plouffe and Parmalee. I have no hope for them, but have hope TR's got some kind of backup plan when these guys don't improve.
  6. Well who reads Deadspin? Not the average fan. Fan voting would never work. Look at the votes Gladden gets for the Twins Hall of Fame. No way he deserves to get in, but thank goodness the vote isn't the final say. Some writers won't vote for anyone in the steroid era. Some disregard the steroids and look at the stats to determine who's deserving. If I were voting, I'd pass until Pete Rose was made eligible.
  7. That's true when traffic really gets bad. To many times at a red light where the green has to cycle twice to get thru. I'll have to look for the restaurant, sounds good!
  8. The lockers are being installed in the locker room now so that's a good sign! There's been alot of work done in the last week and things are starting to shape up in some areas. It's interesting to see. The agility field that's going in right behind the half field and batting cages has a big hill on it, sloped down. I'll bet that hill wears some guys out. Yesterday I went over to the Twins fantasy camp, where the minor leaguers would have spring training if it's not ready here. It's only about a 10 minute drive. That's a good facility and would work fine, but let's hope it's not needed.
  9. It's cold over there today and eye watering windy. Madison Boer told me Deduno's been there but not yet today. I checked the weight room and 8 -10 guys were there working out. Familiar faces some, but every year I have a hard time placing names on most of these minor leaguers. Talked with Tommy Watkins and he said they're putting the lockers in now, so it looks good for MiL spring training to be held here.
  10. I haven't seen anything of Deduno. I'm going over there shortly again and will look for him, or find out if he's been here throwing.
  11. I would doubt they'd to to City of Palms. That's got to be pretty run down now. More likely to B, which is where the Red Sox practiced before they got Jet Blue. B is to the left on Anderson Ave, and down a bit on left side, not to the right as shown on the map. The Twins fantasy camp which starts saturday is at Jet Blue, with the gates locking us out. My groundskeeper buddy that told me about the minor league possible move on monday has the rest of the week off, but maybe I can get info from someone else. I see Bill Smith around, and he should know/ B is the right spot. These old eyes couldn't read the street names, but I see the line goes down Plantation instead of 6 Mile, so the map is very accurate. Sorry about that.
  12. After having watched Max since he got here, in my springs at Ft Myers, I'm really high on him. It might take a couple years, but he could be alot better than projected. As far as watching in Ft Myers, it looks as though the locker room won't be ready for Minor League spring training and it will be moved to the Sox fields. A final decision will be made this week, but that info was given yesterday. This really p's me off.
  13. Well done, Parker, well done. That was fun!
  14. Max is looking in great shape physically. He's working out down here, and I watched him hit off Tommy Watkins last week. Hopefully he'll stay healthy this season and have a good year.
  15. Bummer He was so fired up last year down here about the season, and then lost it to injury. I'll bet he's been working all off season, and fired up about this one too. I give him a good chance to make the team this spring anyway. He'll certainly give it all he's got.
  16. I think most all of the rotation will be on a short leash. 5 max clunkers at the most for any of them, at the very max. It remains to be seen how the rotation at Rochester will shake out, but they'd best be ready. I don't know the odds on this, but if the Twins top 4 rotation all get to opening day without injuries, I'd be surprised. I think a few of these AAA pitchers are going to have to step it up a notch.
  17. I read the headline and thought it was Parmelee, nuts, it's the other Chris.
  18. For a big guy lumbering around in right, Parmelee does a pretty good job. Nice arm. But, it's not worth it with his bat. He just can't catch up with fastballs. Now, with Arcia, I'd take it, as his bat is major league plus. I'd never want Parmelee in the field with Arcia on the bench, period.
  19. Both Hammer and Arcia can't dh at the same time. One will be in the outfield. Parmelee? No, I see him as the next traded, maybe in a package.
  20. I'd welcome Santana back in a heartbeat! He most likely never plays again in the majors, but could really help the younger pitchers. For the cost, even helping one improve would be worth the money. I don't care who they get to play 3rd base. I watch any hack there over Plouffe, I've seen enough. With him you gt what you've seen and that's very little.
  21. That was interesting, and would work for any parts of life. My golf game should benefit with it.
  22. Back in the days when Mudcat was in better health he's come to Ft Myers for the Fantasy Camp. One year I had the privelidge to sit and talk with him for a good hour. He's quite the guy. He told alot of stories. One was something like this: His daughter called and told him her his granddaughter was sneeking out at night through the window and wouldn't stop. He said, ok, I'll take care of it. So that night he took a folding chair with him, drove over and parked down the street. He set up the chair down the side of the house with her window on it and sat. Sure enough, finally, out she came. She never tried that again! His book, The Black Aces is well worth reading. I paid him for one and he signed it and sent it to me. Really a nice guy. And I'm so happy I got to attend the '65 WS, and then eventually meet him.
  23. Max Kepler was at the cages today hitting while Tommy Watkins threw. He said he really enjoyed this fall, "it was fun". He's such a nice kid, hope he does well this year, it's a big one for him.
  24. No surprise here. Wish I could see those hunting photo's though. My season wasn't so good.
  25. I expected Pelfrey back, so no surprise. And I'm glad he is. Now with Deduno, we have a rotation. Now if TR can just get some bats, I'll be alot more enthused about this coming season.
