  1. I suppose I can't prove it was anything but a sacrifice but let me ask you hypothetically, if dozier fouls off the first bunt attempt, do you think he'd square around again on the next pitch after the cat is out of the bag?
  2. I believe Nunez is the better hitter than Suzuki. But its well-documented that coming off the bench cold to pinch hit penalizes a batter, and Nunez (in a small sample) seems particularly prone to it. Fans always overlook this effect.
  3. If there is a righthander on the mound, and 2 outs, and you need a HR (not contact), and Arcia sits while Suzuki bats, I'll be right there with you pitchfork in hand. But this looks to me like complaining for complaining's sake.
  4. People, its going to be a long season if we question every time Molitor doesn't PH for his catcher with Ed freaking Nunez. Its a small sample, but Nunez is 6/32 with no HRs as a PH for his career, and 6 punchouts. I'll take regular old .680 Zuke over that guy 10/10.
  5. Sano's comments: After fouling off the first one, though, Sano completely missed the next two — letter-high and tempting. “I tried to be too aggressive for the pitch. I need to have patience at that moment so I can put it in play,” Sano said. The last one was “a little high. A little lower, and I can hit it out.” http://www.startribune.com/gibson-walks-four-in-twins-loss-to-orioles/374841491/
  6. Here's the Miller article http://www.startribune.com/postgame-santana-was-inserted-for-speed-but-not-to-steal/374848141/
  7. Well yeah, it was scored a sacrifice because Dozier failed to beat it out lol.
  8. "Spice" lol. Translation- brown sugar and salt, for any non-native Minnesotans (who aren't already familiar with coffee cake)
  9. I am not concerned about Sano at all. He hasn't yet swung at a ball outside the zone. That's key. The XBHs will come. But man, we're all holding our breath when a ball is hit to him in RF, right? Between the belly flop and the eyes closed running catch at the wall, I'm worry about his body holding up to those... techniques.
  10. Twins lineup just up: 1. Brian Dozier ® 2B 2. Joe Mauer (L) 1B 3. Miguel Sano ® RF 4. Trevor Plouffe ® 3B 5. Eddie Rosario (L) LF 6. Byung Ho Park ® DH 7. Eduardo Escobar (S) SS 8. Kurt Suzuki ® C 9. Byron Buxton ® CF
  11. Preview: Kyle Gibson (11-11, 3.84 ERA) vs. Yovani Gallardo (13-11, 3.42 ERA) Lineups: http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups Twins (0-1): TBD Orioles (1-0): 1. Manny Machado ® 3B 2. Adam Jones ® CF 3. Chris Davis (L) 1B 4. Mark Trumbo ® RF 5. Matt Wieters (S) C 6. Pedro Alvarez (L) DH 7. J.J. Hardy ® SS 8. Jonathan Schoop ® 2B 9. Joey Rickard ® LF Yay! Baseball is back! After a heartbreaking 9th inning loss the Twins get a mulligan on opening day I figure. Today's matchup features the same Orioles lineup we saw on Monday and... not sure about the Twins' yet. Two teams that figure to strikeout a ton each facing pitchers that don't strike anyone out. And a hitters park to boot. I predict fireworks. Pick to click anyone? A "click" is what happens when a player does really well in a ballgame. I'll take whoever the Twins have batting today in the three spot. I dunno maybe its Sano, maybe someone else I dunno. A "click" can have other meanings too. The urbandictionary defines it as a kilometre (about 0.63 miles) Vietnam War slang. Eg. "Wal-marts about ten clicks from hya." So Wal-Mart's about 10 kilometres from hya. Make a note for when you're in Vietnam and need to re-stock on trail mix. Enjoy the game everyone!
  12. Carrasco has electric stuff, and good command of it. FWIW Mike Podhorzer at fangraphs likes Carrasco to be the ERA leader: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/2016-bold-pitcher-league-leaders/ Personally I'd wager that if Sale does his thing for a whole season, and isn't unarguably lapped by anyone else, the BBWAA will give him his due.
  13. (direct link to NYDN article: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/transcript-bernie-sanders-meets-news-editorial-board-article-1.2588306) I really wish voters demanded journalism like this and I give Bernie a lot of credit for even consenting to the interview. "OK, let's say you win the election. Then what?"
  14. Gibson looked flat out dominant in his last ST tuneup. Got a lot of whiffs. Tonight I'll be watching to see if he throws all his pitches in the first inning, and sets a tone of "unpredictable" as he did then.
  15. A full quarter of the defense budget is spent employing over 2 million active and reserve personnel. I mean, the country is surrounded on all sides by either an ocean or an ally. What do we need 2 million (mostly soldiers) for? Maybe its my own naivete on the subject but in the age of drones and ICBMs and remote everything, that seems like the most obvious place to make cuts. And the least politically palatable.
  16. Bernie has come under fire from the left for flip flopping on his defense record. As mayor of Burlington, VT, he ordered the police to arrest protesters at a GE plant where they were building guns (allegedly) for use in a South American conflict. As Senator he backed the F-35 project which, coincidentally, keeps a base in Vermont. That project finished some 70% overbudget. Why should he stand up to the nationwide pressure to keep people employed, business afloat, etc?
  17. Parking under the 94 ramp is $5. There are spots all the way up to 10th Ave. Its north of the Fulton brewery so you can stop in for a $4-5 beer before the game there too.
  18. I'd add, the AL as a whole batted .216/.293/.336 (.629) in PH situations. The Twins were bad, but a. the bar isn't very high (due to the PH penalty), and B. what can you really conclude from a 75 PA sample anyway? Also, Suzuki, for his career in high leverage situations (when most AL PHs occur), bats .266/.318/.376 (.694). (edit: .257/.314/.359 (.673) according to Fangraphs. The above (.694) is from bb-ref's leverage split.)
  19. These guys had been sitting around in the rain for what, 8-9 hours by that point? I mean even on a good day these two are marginal upgrades over Suzuki (if any). In those conditions, I think staying with the warm body is the right call. YMMV.
  20. With a lefthander on the mound in the 9th (Britton) it doesn't make much sense to me to put in an ice cold Arcia. Especially one who throws 97. That's as close to an an automatic strikeout as it gets. With Zuke you have little chance of a game winning HR but much better chance of gaining a baserunner, where you can then plug in Santana to pinch run.
  21. I stated the 15% figure based on my memory of the TR radio interview on KTWN. It could be higher, I don't remember for certain. I am certain that when asked about Sano's weight, the gist of Ryan's answer was that the weight# was higher than expected but the body fat % (whatever it was) was acceptable.
  22. Its not clear Sano violated any offseason agreement. The info appears to be conflicting. There was the 255 number being thrown around (I'm not sure who said it first). Terry Ryan was asked on KTWN about it at the start of spring, his answer was that Sano was heavier than expected but his body fat% was around 15% IIRC and he said that was acceptable.
  23. I really think when the season is over people are going to be talking about Rosario's corner defense in the same way they talk about Gordon's and Gardner's.
