  1. Didn't you say the exact same thing last year at this time? And then he went on a two month run of crushing it. The worst thing the Twins could do now is panic. Dozier is, by nature of being a fly ball hitter, streaky. If you want him to be more consistent, then you want him to put the ball on the ground more, and that will sap his power. That's not a trade we should be eager to make.
  2. You are forgetting spring training where he was crushing it. But to answer your question, it becomes worrisome when the underlying discpline and velocity/distance change, but that hasn't happened as far as I know. FWIW I don't attribute the popups to luck so much as the fleeting nature of good mechanics. He'll figure it out.
  3. His ISOd is fine. As Brock shows, the more granular measures of his approach are unchanged. The only exception is the higher fly ball percentage, and higher IFFB rate. He's just a tad under the ball. That explains 100% of this.
  4. Its no surprise he is streaky. Think about how miniscule the difference is between a popup and a home run. Right now, he's popping up balls instead of hittng them 350 feets. That will change. I wouldn't worry unless his plate discipline takes a turn or his batted ball velocity / distance takes a dive.
  5. Yeah the 2013 season bumped his stock further, especially the 1/2 season in Cedar Rapids... where Trout was 3 years earlier.
  6. I wonder if scouts and prospect nerds have short memories like the rest of us. Maybe the ascent of Mike Trout and advanced statistics, especially the emphasis on outfield defense, conspired to inflate Buxton's stock going all the way back to the 2012 draft. Probably didn't help that he runs like the wind either. Easy to be wooed by sheer SPEED. Its too early to call him a bust but its past time we adjust our expectations for the kid. Maybe a Melvin Upton type career arc was a more realistic projection for him all along.
  7. FWIW in the interview aired on KTWN yesterday Gardy said he received offers from other teams for positions before accepting the Twins' position.
  8. They could shift Sano to third and put Kepler in the OF. That would at a minimum improve OF defense.
  9. I mention walks and HRs because they are "true" outcomes. Although walks probably less true than HRs. The problem I have with this approach is that when a baseline talent is unchanged, as it is here, then the "cooling off" is inevitable, and the games/runs you scored during the hot streak are just given right back. Versus taking your winnings and walking away from the table while you're ahead. The house always wins in the long run.
  10. How did Escobar go 0-10 when he was hot though? Maybe he was the same hitter in both stretches.
  11. I see no way Nunez's hot streak can finish in Aaron Thompson-esque fashion.
  12. Just check his thermometer. When it falls below 72, bench him.
  13. Literally anyone can get hot over a 21 PA span. He has not taken a walk or hit a HR over the past few games. He's putting good swings on balls but he's not going to keep hitting .500.
  14. Agree. He stole at least one or two strikes today and looks okay at blocking and fielding. But his bat doesn't look any better than Suzuki's IMO. Or Hicks'.
  15. In some interview last winter Ryan was asked about a circumstance forcing Sano back to third and he said an injury could force it. But they are going day to day with Plouffe and will probably only DL him to the 15 day if necessary, which shouldn't be enough to force a position change. Especially if Nunez keeps hitting and Rosario/Buxton don't.
  16. With today's appearances, Jepsen and May have worked back, to back, to back days. May is on pace for 94 appearances, Jepsen 81. How is this supposed to work?
  17. Nick Tropeano (1-0, 0.00) vs. Kyle Gibson (0-2, 4.22) Lineups: http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups Angles (5-6): TBD Twins (2-9): TBD Twins bats erupted for a season high 3 home runs yesterday afternoon, as they wailed on the corpse of Jered Weaver and the Halos bullpen. The Twins struckout just 4 times, against 3 walks. They kept defensive mistakes to a minimum, with one exception- another outfield collision. This time between (CF) Rosario and (LF) Arcia. Come on, Twins outfielders, you just wrapped up spring training. Nick Tropeano takes the hill for the Angels today. A product of the Astros system, Tropeano was drafted in the 5th round in 2011. The righty throws a fastball 91-92, slider, changeup, and an occasional splitter. He'll be making his 13th start and so far, he's been stingy with the long ball, which seems odd since he's a fly ball pitcher. Maybe today the winds will push some fly balls into the seats. Enjoy the game!
  18. Jered Weaver (1-0, 1.50) vs. Ricky Nolasco (0-0, 1.29) Lineups: http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups Angels (5-5): TBD Twins (1-9): TBD Eduardo Nunez was 3/3 yesterday batting leadoff. He's hitting .778 in the early going. He also played second base, which is directly in front of right field, where Miguel Sano sits. Er, plays. In the third Nunez threw a low block on Sano that stopped the hearts of every Twins fan. Here it is if you missed it: http://m.mlb.com/video/v591921283/laamin-nunez-shaken-up-mauer-nabs-escobar/?query=sano Thankfully the Kentucky bluegrass in right field was well-watered and gave way to Sano's cleats, saving the young slugger from missing a second entire season due to catastrophic injury. The saving grace for Twins fans is that the majority of Nunez clumsiness is directed toward himself, and on three more occasions he jammed fingers, took an HBP, and something else. But with the Bill Dance poseur batting leadoff, the Twins scored four runs for the first time all year. And more importantly, got their first win. So cheers Twins fans, the primate is off our backs!
  19. I'm shocked. That was... a helluva good PA by Rosario.
  20. I was one of them because goddammit its bad enough to worry about meaningless games in August. At 5 or 6 losses we had some precedent for hope. But after 9, now we have to worry about meaningless games in April. April! We're staring at a summerlong Bataan death march of a baseball season. I've never been this low as a Twins fan and it sucks hard. YMMV.
  21. Take leadership completely out of the equation- Hunter, even at 40 years old Hunter, probably wouldn't strikeout 40% of the time as the guy he'd have replaced (pick an outfielder).
