  1. Kuemper... Fingers crossed that Dubs has gas left in the tank in a month.
  2. I think we'd all be stunned. But if one or all of them were put in the pen it wouldn't be a surprise to seem them stay healthier longer. These are the 3 guys who - barring a stroke of good luck, like Hughes regaining 2-3 mph, will labor through long innings of work as starters.
  3. OTOH the most likely injury candidates are also the most fringey guys to be starting in the first place. Hughes- recovering from TOS surgery Gibson- shoulder injury in 2016 prompting new workout routine May- recurring back problems
  4. Another vid of Bonds talking about chocking up. I liked his comment "I didn't like getting jammed so I was like 'hey man you're gonna jam me, jam this!' So I choked up."
  5. Bump. The Kepler/Bonds article reminded me to look at Bonds swing again, and see how level it really was. In this video he brings his hand down but finishes pretty low too. I was a little surprised at how level it was. https://youtu.be/QaX1iU-fdFA
  6. Good point about Cuddyer. TBH I have no memory of the trade deadline that year, maybe a #32 - type talent was never in play. You're never going to convince me that the Twins handling of Liriano was anything less than a massive squandering of talent. We traded a perfectly capable #3 for Ed freaking Escobar. At a time when the starting staff had sunk to historic lows and is still there to this day. Liriano? Don't need him. Head case. Give me a freaking break.
  7. There are also some mitigating factors to the bad luck. There were a lot of people who thought it unwise to continue playing a 183m player with a twice surgically repaired knee at catcher prior to 2011 when the bilateral leg weakness hoopla started. Moving him to third or left field might have prevented that. Liriano flopped in 2011, how much of that is on the pitching coaches? Sure seemed to do okay in Pittsburgh. Cuddyer actually had a fine year in 2011. Why didn't we trade him again?
  8. Is it just me or are there a bunch of stud sophomores in the college ranks this year?
  9. Week 3 of The Top College Players by (Maybe) Predictive Stats http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-top-college-players-by-maybe-predictive-stats-11/
  10. But Smith was fired after a single losing season. Ryan was given 5 of them.
  11. They stream some (all?) the games live on Youtube. I just found out about this last night. Search for "wbc2017" or something similar and filter for live.
  12. There is some pretty compelling research out there about high strikeout rates in college. I'd be surprised if Kendall were seriously in consideration at 1-1 due to all his whiffs.
  13. Hughes definitely throws a curve too. He hasn't thrown a slider since 2013. He swapped it for the cutter.
  14. Not this year, the player didn't approve that proposal.
  15. Yeah I almost swerved into a median when I heard that. Thing is, Molitor wants Castro to play 120 games. He wants him to be the main guy. Ok, it just so happens the Twins will face a righty about 115-120 times per season. I get that there are day game after night games and whatnot but the situation screams for a platoon as much as possible.
  16. Yeah by my math you would need to go to 17+ games to make it worthwhile, and that's assuming the ushers play ball. There's no way I'm going to that many games in two months.
  17. Caught that. Provus also mentioned Castro's career .190 batting average against lefties and asked if a platoon was an option. Molitor gave kind of a weird answer. He said that he'd be okay with a catcher who is 2 for 12 with a 3 run homer and run scoring single. A guy who can produce runs even with a low batting average. Which doesn't describe Castro against lefties at all (.097 ISO).
  18. Yeah how anal are the usher about letting you grab a seat when the entire section is empty. Anyone know? I haven't bough an SRO ticket since 2010.
  19. If JD Martinez is right, then pitchers are starting to counter the uppercut swing with high four seemers. A level swing should do better against those than an uppercut.
  20. And the follow up today: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-cure-for-the-home-run-era/
  21. Maybe this is a silly question but given the past 48 hours in the Twins Cities, and the Tropical Storm level wind, it crossed my mind. What happens when a player gets beaned and injured because he couldn't see the ball coming because he had a piece of dirt blow into his eye and he was in a 2 strike count and couldn't call time?
  22. Every hitter is taught to dial into the release point. These guys throw way too hard to look anywhere else, even the arse area where Berrios pinky was sticking out. The question is, were hitters seeing that pinky with their peripheral vision? Its possible but I'm skeptical.
  23. So a team that discourages players from participating would be running afoul of the MLB and MLBPA both. Doesn't seem like a good spot to be in.
  24. As Ash noted the MLB and players jointly operate the WBC. Is that true or not?
  25. If the Twins were to use WBC participation as justification for a roster decision that would have to violate the MLB-MLBPA agreement on WBC participation. What the consequences might be I have no idea.
