  1. Sano's comments: After fouling off the first one, though, Sano completely missed the next two — letter-high and tempting. “I tried to be too aggressive for the pitch. I need to have patience at that moment so I can put it in play,” Sano said. The last one was “a little high. A little lower, and I can hit it out.” http://www.startribune.com/gibson-walks-four-in-twins-loss-to-orioles/374841491/
  2. I am not concerned about Sano at all. He hasn't yet swung at a ball outside the zone. That's key. The XBHs will come. But man, we're all holding our breath when a ball is hit to him in RF, right? Between the belly flop and the eyes closed running catch at the wall, I'm worry about his body holding up to those... techniques.
  3. Carrasco has electric stuff, and good command of it. FWIW Mike Podhorzer at fangraphs likes Carrasco to be the ERA leader: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/2016-bold-pitcher-league-leaders/ Personally I'd wager that if Sale does his thing for a whole season, and isn't unarguably lapped by anyone else, the BBWAA will give him his due.
  4. Gibson looked flat out dominant in his last ST tuneup. Got a lot of whiffs. Tonight I'll be watching to see if he throws all his pitches in the first inning, and sets a tone of "unpredictable" as he did then.
  5. I really think when the season is over people are going to be talking about Rosario's corner defense in the same way they talk about Gordon's and Gardner's.
  6. If my math is right, $7.5b on a $35k car means 214k units. The factory is supposed to produce half a million cars/year? So, big as that is, they might need another one pretty soon.
  7. That is a good day at the office. I had no idea about the Gigafactory, its pretty cool that the little guy might have the production advantage. But, if I bought, I would get an ulcer. TSLA sure is fun to follow though.
  8. Speak of the devil, TSLA up almost 24% since Mar 4. Early reports, sounds like the Model 3 is a hit. I've seen a few Teslas on the road (the roadster is an eye grabber). As I understand it, the Model 3 released yesterday has a $35k price tag with 215 mile range, I do think we are approaching the breakeven point where it might actually make sense to buy one, esp. with green/tax incentives. But, Tesla has so much ground to make up, they still haven't turned a profit. With so many automakers who dwarf Tesla, how many sales can there be in its future? Example- One rumor I found interesting was that as an alternative to imposing multi-billion dollar penalties on VW, some states were considering capping non-electric or hybrid sales as a compromise, thereby incentivizing VW to expand its green lineup. I would have to think if VW focused on battery powered vehicles they could undercut TSLA easily, no?
  9. Under too. Reasoning is sorta pointless since most are taking over, but yeah the hitting looks very suspect.
  10. I googled and found the following relating to Ortiz and Vargas: http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/mlb/springtraining/2016/03/29/david-ortiz-kennys-vargas-remain-connected/81915852/ Ortiz has some opinions about how the Twins are handling the DH spot and the signing of BH Park, but doesn't say anything about Vargas' coaching except some vague references to "leaving him alone" and "letting him play." Vargas own comment jives with what the Twins told us last year when they demoted him- he wasn't hitting enough HRs. Presumably they aren't asking him to hit his HRs oppo. "I understand, I didn’t do my job last year in the major leagues,” Vargas said. “I didn’t hit many home runs. I have to figure it out. It’s all about helping the team winning and getting them to the playoffs and the World Series. “I have to figure it out and get my spot back.” Did Ortiz say anything about TK not mentioned here?
  11. Think about that. Sano worked the count full 93 times out of 335 PAs. More frequently than Bryce Harper or Joey Votto. A case could be made we had the most entertaining hitter in baseball last year.
  12. BB-Ref has splits here: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=sanomi01&year=Career&t=b Sano worked 93 full counts, took 42 walks and struckout 30 times. Also hit 7 HRs. So 45% of the time he walked and 85% of the time a full count ended in a true outcome.
  13. Under too. They were a 69 win team by Pythagoras last year. They are swapping David Price, Alfredo Simon, and Yoenis Cespedes for Zimemrman, Pelfrey, and Upton. A wash at best. The bullpen looks a bit better, the lineup looks older. Not much farm to speak of. Pretty easy under IMO.
  14. Over. Laroche leaving is the cherry on top of a good offseason.
  15. Re: Buxton's steals Yesterday Buxton leadoff the game with a HBP. Then was caught stealing on a 1-0 fastball to the San-man, batting 2nd. It was a terrible pitch to run on. He got on base again in the third, and wisely did not attempt to steal during the San-man's AB. However with Sano at the dish, one out, Sano got to 1-2, and was thrown in sequence a fastball low and off the plate, and then a slow breaking pitch to strike him out. Buxton did not attempt to steal on either pitch. Now, Santana, as we know, is not a power hitter. And when you throw as hard as Cole does, there's not much reason to throw him anything but fastballs. Bad pitches to run on, in other words. And Sano, as we know, eats fastballs for breakfast. So when he gets to two strikes, no pitcher in his right mind is going to throw him a good one. Excellent pitches to run on, in other words. Point is, maybe Buck can up his SB total by being a little more selective about which pitches he runs on, esp. if Molly puts him in front of Sano in the order, a really intriguing prospect for both Buxton and Sano I think as the SBs might force pitchers to throw Sano more fastballs with two strikes.
  16. I think Rosario cuts down on the K's and does hit for a high average and good slg and is among the top 1-2 team leaders in WAR. .290/.312/.480 (.792)
  17. I mean it was 89 and muggy today. Why would he have held back? Esp. after giving up 3 hits?
  18. Bremer gave us several more unimpressive fastball readings from Perkins- 88 and 89, in his 1 IP. Gibson by contrast was sitting 92 and Tonkin 95-96 so the gun was not the issue. Starting to worry...
  19. Fun with numbers- Milone has a 16.2 K/9 as a reliever. May only has 10.4
  20. Its too bad Molly didn't have the stones to put Pelfrey in the pen last season, especially with the low expectations for that 2015 teamm, so we would know for sure one way or the other what May's best role is.
  21. Just a tick above his career average- 22.9% with the Twins, vs 22.3% for his career. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jepseke01-pitch.shtml
