  1. I like the lineup a lot more with Plouffe in it than without. My hope is, the next manager will institute a more advanced shifting scheme so that the defensive weaknesses are minimized and guys like Plouffe and Sano can continue to hold jobs somewhere in the infield.

  3. Drink every time Bert says arcEEa instead of ARcia.
  4. Right, I am conjecturing a reason for Morneau flying open. I wouldn't call your observation conjecture at all, I see the same thing. Its almost like he's a afraid of the ball. Or of getting hit in the head, posssibly.
  5. This is pure conjecture, but my assumption is he's still dealing with a mental block resulting from the concussions. Might still have post concussion symptoms but just got tired of answering to the media about it daily as he came up on his contract year even.
  6. Too vague. Does "micro-managing" mean, show up 2 hours before the game to get batting practice in? Or does it mean, I want you playing 3 and half steps deeper in CF than you might be comfortable with? Or something else?
  7. And here I thought "refract" meant "nap." After reading these rankings, I was left asking myself "whose rookie card price could possibly rank higher than Joe Mauer's?" A champion must be crowned!
  8. The Tigers are the most talented team but they have some good candidates for regression. Peralta, Hunter, Tuiasosopo mainly. Anibal has a sore shoulder. Scherzer is always a question mark healthwise. If the Twins can somehow sweep the Tigers next week (at TF), they'll cut the lead in half. This is why the league moved to unbalanced schedules after all, to keep things interesting deep into the season.
  9. TIL GH is short for Ron Gardenhire
  10. I don't think they'll have trouble filling 1B. In fact, between Arcia's Delmon-esque defense, Sano growing into Ryan Howard's body, and Mauer aging out of full time catching duty, there could be a logjam at 1b and DH. And then there's the 6 or 7 all stars we'll need to find room for in the outfield. Luckily we'll have 3-5 aces in the rotation so we will be able to roll with a 9 man pitching staff to free up roster space.
  11. The Twins are closer to winning the Division outright than they are to winning a wildcard spot. In other words, only the Indians and Tigers separate the Twins from not only making the playoffs, but also having a first round bye.
  12. I wonder what kind of haul Josmil Pinto would bring as trade bait right now.
  13. The Twins leadoff hitters are batting .170/.225/.205 for the year. Richardson is batting .292/.443/.365 and that OBP is not at all out of the ordinary for him. The more I think about it, the more it seems like a no brainer. They need a CF-er and they need a leadoff man.
  14. I'd rather see Richardson than Hermann, Thomas, Parmelee, or Hicks. Free Richardson!
  15. For all the mods encouragement of people to blog, its a small crime that nobody front paged this one. A+ post. My thoughts: A. Its time to start referring to Jordan Zimmerman as an ace. Which gives the Nats, what, 3 aces when everyone's healthy? B. I'm just not buying that Florimon's current numbers reflect his true talent, but I don't really have any statistical backing for that opinion. His plate discipline has improved for the 2nd straight year. His defense has been fine (this past weekend notwithstanding). Even his BABIP could stand to gain a few points probably. But my eyes are telling me that he is Alexi Casilla 2.0. Hope I'm wrong. C. Parmelee. I've been a skeptic all along and I really hope the Twins don't bend any further over finding a way to get him playing time. The overwhelming majority of his professional career has been mediocre, save a few hot weeks in AAA in 2012. But even Clete Thomas can get hot for a few weeks in AAA. I hope neither of those guys stops Arcia getting a full share of playing time now that his shoulder's better. D. I watched a few of Liriano's starts, including one a few weeks ago where he struck out 7 in a row, tie-ing a Pirates franchise record. He's still filthy, his changeup has been especially filthy this year, but he still falls behind out of the stretch more than he should. He has been bailed out on more than one ocassion by Clint Hurdle's shifts though. That said, he has been nearly unhittable out of the windup. Side note, I'm going to go ahead and predict Hurdle for MoY in the NL right now. The Pirates are a good team.
  16. Were you using google images?
  17. Ozzie probably knows a thing or two about infielding anyways, but I like the idea more from an entertainment standpoint. One of the all time greatest (referring to Dustin Pedroia): "I never thought I would walk a jockey. I must be the worst manager in the history of baseball right now, walking a guy that just came from being on the top of Big Brown to beat the White Sox. "The guy right now is on fire. No matter what you throw there, he's going to get it. I can't believe it. You can change professions from one year to another. To go from the Kentucky Derby to the Boston Red Sox ballpark and perform, that's amazing."
  18. If Florimon tackles that chopper from Suzuki instead of letting it roll into left field, then Rendon doesn't score from 2nd. That wasn't scored an error btw.
  19. I think it boils down to geometry. The cutter seems to be gaining popularity and Mauer with his flat swing will roll over on them. This year it looks like he's pulling in and angling the bathead down a bit more, and that's causing more fly ball contact and whiffs against 4 seamers and 2 seamers, but the cutters he aren't rolling over on as much.
  20. I like the pick too. Stewart has such a short stride and upright delivery, looks like a candidate for some lower body adjustment. Maybe see him juice the velocity up further. The fact that he throws mid 90s with ease and appears to have a full arsenal is encouraging though.
  21. What are the chances a McGwire declines an underslot offer? Would it be safer to try an overdraft strategy by working backwards - take the college pitcher at 4 who has little leverage to decline, so that they can throw overslot money at high schoolers later in the draft?
  22. Wrong on all counts except possibly the destruction of my own credibility, which I'd hoped to achieve a long time ago. 1. We're talking about Amphetamine, not caffeine. I'd agree its entirely possible to abuse caffeine but its just not as potent as speed and obviously isn't a schedule 2 substance. 2. Gray wasn't prescribed the Adderall, as I understand it. Not that I believe it matters for most people. For whatever reason, certain drugs and cultures get tied up together. There are a lot of ballplayers who chew tobacco, for example. I suspect for the majority of them, they do it out of sheer addiction and not for any benefit. Maybe they do it because if they try to stop, they get thrown into a funk like when Hamilton tried to stop last October. Would speed use be any different? And I"ll ask the same thing here that I asked charger. What exactly are the supposed benefits of stimulant use to pitching, or hitting, or fielding?
  23. Can I ask specifically what benefit do you get from stimulants in swimming?
