  1. I went ahead and glanced at the next two offseason FA SP classes. The top of the rotation types could very well be older than 28. 2014 class: Lincecum (29) Garza (30) Josh Johnson (30) Dan Haren (33) 2015 class: Kershaw (27) Scherzer (30) Iwakuma (34) Chen (29) Masterson (30) Cueto (29) Bailey (29) Gallardo (29) edit: link http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015-mlb-free-agents/
  2. My evidence is... pretty much all the pitchers you just listed. If those are the worst case scenarios, well a lot of those scenarios aren't that bad, some of them are pretty dang good actually. People seem to fear that even a "bust" like the ones you describe will doom the franchise but history shows that that's almost never the case.
  3. If I were Gardy, I'd bolt. The rest of the league holds him in pretty high regard and someone else might actually put a roster together for him.
  4. You're missing 2 key elements in your risk equation: inflation and supply. Who's to say what $17m buys when the TWins are "ready" to spend money? Probably not a lot less than a 31-32 year old Anibal, I'd wager.
  5. Dozier high-sided there. Throttle control Dozier!
  6. I'm not arguing that the 1b production is as awful as the SP production. I would agree that, for the 3rd straight offseason, the quickest most cost-effective improvements that could be made will be to the rotation. That doesn't mean you just settle for average or below average production (or a higher probability of average to below average production) elsewhere if you can help it.
  7. Unlike Parmelee, Morneau has proven capable of putting up .900+ OPS production at the MLB level. Maybe those days are over for good, maybe not. I personally would like to see the TWins make a serious pitch to Mike Napoli to fill 1B. He has two .900+ seasons of his own, is still relatively young, bats righthanded, pull hitter, could backup catcher, etc. and isn't as serious of a health risk. I think Parmelee will be on the team in RF again in 2014 though.
  8. Get your ghillie suits on its time for some horseplay!
  9. Hicks put a nice swing on that ball but sounds like its just a hotbox in the Rogers Center right now. Roof closed, no a/c in that place evidently.
  10. Rasmus really needs to cut that thing off his chin.
  11. Well there you go. Ducati expects you to wreck their bikes before racking up that kind of mileage. Meanwhile the Honda rides on. I saw a guy on the Internet post a Goldwing with 500,000 miles on it the other day. Anyway, good luck with the femur Mike.
  12. I love how Mauer takes a foul off his toe and milks it as if to say "you see Minnesota! You see the beating I take for you!" in the most Maueran way. From Game 2 against the Yankees, 5th inning, Gardner at-bat. Note the disapproval from the former catcher managing the Yankees.
  13. Goldwings?
  14. Man, that is a pretty lousy list of batters who've floated on the to-switch-hit-or-not-to-switch-hit bubble.
  15. There's a coupla surprise teams every year. The Twins were one of those teams in 2011, why couldn't they be one of them in 2013? Rookies, injuries, really lucky or unlucky guys lighting up, getting lit up, Tommy John, trampolines, suntan booths, whatever. Stuff happens every year to shake things up in a division or two. Nobody projected the 2013 Twins to stroll into the World Series but nobody projected the Brewers to tank so hard or the Pirates to be the best team in baseball. The Pirates' 2 game adantage over the Cardinals is 7 games better than Pythagoras says it should be. The World Series Champs are tied for last place. Nobody can predict these things too well, that's all.
  16. Well that's 7 innings. Robertson's warmed, then its you know who. I'm not going to risk the extra hour of sleep on those odds. Night all.
  17. My favorite ice creams: 1. Stoneridge's Carmel Cheesecake 2. Moose Tracks (multiple brands) 3. Kemps' Carmel Delight Do not under any circumstances buy Edy's "slow churned" ice creams.
  18. I think its more that whatever backwoods Venezuan barrio Ozzie's from has melded the "ia" into a single syllable over the years. Its a long way from the queen's spanish over there.
  19. For the past 6 months I've been eating 3 quarts of ice cream every two days, is that bad?
  20. Ball in the dirt baby. Two strikes, throw the ball in the dirt.
  21. Between 2002 and 2011 the Twins scored 588 runs against the Yankees and allowed 821, for a pythagorean record of .353. So, maybe 1 of every 7 losses is on Gardy. Maybe. But mostly, the Yankees have just built better teams.
  22. This is my thought too. The ball arrives about midway back in the righthanded batter's box just after Doumit gets there. Gomes has to either cross the runner to catch it or let him pass unmolested and then go get the ball. In the first case, he runs the risk of getting called for interference and the runner advances to 3rd, in the 2nd case he all but guarantees the runner advancement.
