  1. The first roadblock to a Perkins trade is that the most interested buyer would probably the Tigers. I don't like the idea of giving him to a division rival, but as with all things, if the haul is big enough then it would be worthwhile. It would have to be a pretty gigantic haul to make it worthwhile though, IMHO.
  2. Here's a name that I will just toss out there if anyone cares to respond: Sandy Alomar. He mopped up the tail of the Indians 2012 season and is pretty well regarded within the Indians organization. He was considered the 2nd choice only to Tito Francona to take over full-time, former catcher, bilingual. Besides that, I know nothing about him, his philosophy, bullpen management, whether he'd employ defensive shifts, etc.
  3. It is an interesting story. Might there have been a subconscious link between the trade demand, the immediate success with the Yankees, and the yips? I mean, guy requests a trade in 97, gets traded, plays 2B in '98 for the Yankees, wins a WS, plays 2B all of 99, and wins another world series? Is there a little leprechaun that shows up at that point and starts whispering in his ear "well that was easy, wasn't it?"
  4. Terrible game in a terrible stadium with terrible fans is finally over
  5. How do you know when a kickball game's over? Someone starts crying.
  6. That's it. If you can't beat em, and you can't bean em in the box, then bean em on the bases.
  7. Thought maybe we were finally reaching the Rays scrubs.
  8. At this rate, you might get them.
  9. Farnsworth now? Man the Rays bullpen just won't quit.
  10. Yeah, he seems kinda shaken up by it actually. Hopefully not a concussion.
  11. Bobbleheads, decapitated. A soile wifebeater hurled over the T.V, greased by three bags of Barrel o Fun potato chips, eaten over the course of an hour and a half. Milk mustache.
  12. How many more PAs against Rodney till the results are significant? Just kidding. I will not disrespect the sanctity of the game thread by pursuing a SSS line of discussion.
  13. I will admit, if the real Hicks is the one we've been watching for the past week or so, I'd be very happy about that. The last at-bat not counting.
  14. Hey its like they always say, if you can't beat em, bean em.
  15. D'oh god, this is a thing Vuvuzela Radio - The sound of the vuvuzela! Recorded at the Trop
  16. Can't eat and type at the same time. I've been eating for 7 innings. Food comforts me.
  17. Doogy tweeted that the Twins would probably pursue him. Assuming he's not extended by someone by then, of course.
  18. And if the Twins farm talent does break onto the scene in 2014 and 2015, propelling them into a playoff chase, then the excuse morphs from "gotta wait till the time is ripe" to "don't want to encumber a bunch of money on a FA when we have all these Arby years coming up on us." That's where the whole discussion about Jr's inaction in the past two offseasons comes in. If he didn't make a splash then, then he's never going to do it. Certainly not if these prospects pan out as planned. And with the new TF and TV money coming in, you have to wonder if he's the right man for the job anymore.
  19. I think we're focusing on the one guy who made the most sense. But, if you want to bet on Deduno and the hodgepodge of talents that Jr is likely to field over the next 6 years outproducing Greinke or Jackson or even Haren, I will take that bet in a heartbeat.
  20. For starters, there would have been denial value in stopping the Tigers securing the 2nd best pitcher of the 2013 class for 5 years. Secondly, Sanchez would have accelerated the Twins timeline for contention. And thirdly, his aging curve isn't even that out of whack from the best pitchers likely available for the next 1 or 2 offseasons. If you're willing to commit 5 years to a 30 year old in 2014, then why not commit 5 years to a 28 year old in 2013?
  21. Its possible to do both? Rebuild the farm, and put a decent product on the field? Again this is a conflation that keeps derailing the discussion. You can sign FAs and build your farm at the same time. See: Cardinals, Nats, Rangers, etc.
  22. Right, Kershaw being probably the most likely one too.
  23. The Twins also don't have a Lincecum / Wainright / Cain / Bailey / Verlander etc. from within the organization that they can extend. Thus, unlike some of these teams, they have no choice but to go outside the organization if they want to improve their pitching.
  24. And that throws out the whole argument of waiting on a 28 year old in 2013 because there will be comparable 28 year olds available "when we're ready." It very well could play out that a 30 year old Anibal is as good as anyone else on this list, aside from maybe Kershaw. Only of course you have the benefit of using him now, and paying him 2013 money instead of 2014 or 2015 money, and committing to his 28-33 year old years, instead of his 30-35 year old years.
