    We've been hearing this a lot. What exactly is that routine and how would it preclude DH-ing? Or, how would the demands of DH-ing stop a player pitching once every 5 games?

    If Provus/Gladden know anything, the deal is the Twins want Berrios' next call up to be his last. They feel that letting him simmer in Rochester for most of the spring is the best way to insure that.

    Yeah I wouldn't lock in McKay yet. I like him, and I think we sometimes unfairly paint him as a "safe" guy without giving credit for the upside as a pitcher. He's got the highest k/9 of anyone in the SEC or ACC, and its trended up nicely from his sophomore year. Unlike Wright who's k-rate is unchanged from last year. I know Wright fits the more conventional profile of a projection guy, he's an inch taller, high waisted, higher max velo (by a tick), but from a results perspective its hard to convince me his career will have a more meteoric rise than the "safe" guy McKay. McKay could easily have the higher floor and ceiling IMO. But the guy I really hope they feel good about- either drafting or passing on, is Addell. To me he looks like he could be really special.

    Yes. Another option would be EE to third and Sano DH. Either would be an improvement defensively IMO.

    Don't think its that cut and dry. If we're talking about the Yankees, who are in contention, rich, and have a strong system, the value is going to be different than a team like the Rays or A's who are basically cash strapped farm teams for the rest of the league.

    Exactly. In the span of 10 posts prospects went from "overvalued" to "almost worthless." MN sports fans for ya!

    I'll just say that if the Twins do trade prospects to make a push, don't half-ass it. See your MN Vikings, Wild, past Twins teams, etc. Go for the creme de la creme as the Indians, Cubs, Royals, etc did. Don't send prospects if the return is another Jon Rauch or Matt Capps.

    Looks like Granite's rehab stint in Ft Myers went well. 7-19, a double, triple, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 3 steals 1 CS. Tom Fremming reports that Rochester added him to their roster today.

    Friday night notables: Louisville vs Notre Dame McKay: 8.0, 1, 0, 4, 8. 0-4 at the plate with a K Mizzou vs Vandy Kendall 1/4, 1K Ole Miss vs Florida Faedo: 6.0, 3, 0, 3, 9 Miss. St vs Texas A&M Rooker: 2-3, 1 2B, 2BB 1K. Also got a single in 4 PAs on Friday night (no BB or K) Virginia and UNC didn't play. On Thursday UCLA played Southern California. Griffin Canning threw 9.0 IP, 7H, 0R, 1BB, 10K

    That might be true but we need to remember he's a 17 year old kid we're talking about. He is allowed to make some mistakes and especially with all the social media it would be very hard not to make some very public ones. In the SI piece written about Greene it shows a kid who is very active with charity and seems to dedicate a lot of time time and energy to various local causes in California, so he's got that going too. That being said it seems like maybe he's had the male version of a beauty-pageant childhood. Every single step of his baseball "career" seems to have been carefully plotted dating back to a very young age. Something to consider, or maybe its nothing.

    Well, you don't *know* that, because comprehensive high school stats don't exist. Just like I don't know a 4-sigma player has a better chance at success than a 3-sigma player. Although has been proven to be the case when stats are comprehensive (the minors), so I strongly suspect there is a similar, if weaker, relationship at college and high school. Exactly how weak or strong the relationship is is unknown. Addell's stats for sure are at least a 4-sigma (6 in 100,000) and maybe even a 4.5-sigma (3.4 in 1,000,000). Good enough to get a good look from every team drafting in the top 10 I would hope.

    Whoa whoa whoa, high school stats!? Just kidding. I had looked for his stats a while back and came up empty so thank you for finding that. I'd definitely be interested in him at 1-1, esp. if he'd sign underslot. 6'3, 210, super athletic, the bat looks pretty special. Don't know what more you could want in a 1-1.

    I think the concern is that he pulls a Kevin Gausman and flies through the minors, is added to the 40 man, struggles in the Show, then poses the quandary of do you spend his option years hoping he figures out how to pitch in MLB or do you hit the reset button and hope he's ready as a batter in 3 years? Its a fair concern and incidentally, another reason to develop him as a two-way player before rostering him. Takes a little longer to cook but then the backup plan is a little more legit.

    Yes, and the games thus far have been mostly divisional, not the best timing. My MN sports reflex of we can't have nice things is kicking in, that's all. Just want the guy to stay on the field!
