  1. What do you mean the starting point isn't 1/4 way through the season?
  2. The answer is staring us in the face- Garver up, Gimenez and his 0.00 ERA to the pen.
  3. More Berrios love at MLB.com http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2017/05/25/232331732/jose-berrios-throws-his-curveball-like-its-a-wiffleball http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/232203236/twins-jose-berrios-dominating-strike-zone/
  4. That said, ideally they find a way to improve the club in 2018 as well. If not 2019 too.
  5. I'm enjoying the ride too but I can't take it as given that the Twins are on an upward trajectory and will automatically be better in 2018 and beyond just because the core is young. Knuckle pushups, toy drones, intoxicated boating trips, etc (ok those are extreme examples). But there's no sure things in sports so when you find yourself in first place at this juncture then almost always you should be thinking along the lines of carpe diem IMO.
  6. Yeah, ditto Buxton. I would be looking at Rosario instead. BTW here is the link to the Wetmore piece: http://www.1500espn.com/twins-2/2017/05/wetmores-5-thoughts-5-things-twins-can-keep-good-times-rolling/
  7. Rooker currently slugging .881. Tops among all D1 players... next closest guy is .119 points behind (Ben Fisher). http://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/mississippi-state/2016/06/03/msu-uses-bats-top-semo-starkville-regional-opener/85340054/ http://www.baseballamerica.com/business/driveline-turns-data-solutions/#lQZIlufPAwXOcQJV.97
  8. Get Rooker. Please get Rooker. The guy MASHES. Could be the next Goldschmidt.
  9. Is there a way to view that as a full page and not a slide show?
  10. Minorleagueball profile of Greg Diechmann. The Twins drafted him last year in the 28th round. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/5/19/15663250/meet-lsu-slugger-greg-deichmann
  11. Gibson listed on mlb.com as Sunday's starter. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/index.jsp#date=05/28/2017
  12. There are a capped amount of bitcoins that can be mined. The same I assume for Litecoins. This prevents inflation and actually is part of the reason these currnecies are increasing in value, right? OK. But there is no cap on the number of cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, etc. A cursory google search of cryptocurrencies yielded a list of 100 cryptocurrencies. At some point will each of these cryptocurrencies experience "inflation" as the universe of cryptocurrencies (ie the money supplpy) continues to expand? edit: "View all" and the list expands to 832 cryptocurrencies.
  13. After much thought I have discovered how Derek Falvey could land Chris Archer AND Gerritt Cole for literally *nothing.* It's a little complicated so I'll break it down as cleanly as I can. Step 1: Call Rick Hahn. Tell him you’re a big fan of “chitown.” Ask about David Robertson and Jose Quintana. After Kahn says no to intra-divisional trading, tell him you're prepared to offer newly acquired Rays prospects Jose De Leon, Jesus Sanchez, and Chi Wei Hu. In addition you’re prepared to offer newly acquired top prospect Victor Robles, formerly of the Nationals. Wait 6.1 seconds for the Cubs to come out of a commercial break then put him on hold. Step 2: Call Pirates GM Neal Huntington. Tell him the Twins are willing to trade newly acquired OF Mike Conforto for Gerritt Cole plus Tony Watson. Wait 90 seconds for the Penguins to come out of commercial break then put him on hold. Step 3: Call Washington GM Mike Rizzo. Ask him if he got any mosquito bites after Trump drained the swamp, then offer David Robertson in exchange for Victor Robles and Erick Fedde. Wait 19 seconds for the Orioles to come out of commercial break then tell him to hold. Step 4. Call Brian Cashman. Tell him New York is the best city in New England. Tell him you’re prepared to offer newly acquired starter Jose Quintana for Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, and Chance Adams plus $10m cash. Hold. Step 5. Call Sandy Alderson. Tell him you just swung a deal with the Yankees, you stole their to prospect. Now he’s listening. You offer them Frazier for Conforto straight up. As Seinfeld returns from break you place him on hold. Step 6: Call Erik Neander. Tell him you always thought reports of his people’s demise 1.3 million years ago were greatly exaggerated. Offer $10m cash plus newly acquired Yankees prospects Sheffield and Adams plus Tony Watson in exchange for Chris Archer, JDL Jesus Sanchez and Chi Wei Hu. As the Yankees return from break you put him on hold. Step 7: Put Hahn back on the line. Tell him you spilled Land O Lakes milk all over yourself and had to clean up. Complete the trade: Robertson + Quintana for JDL, Sanchez, Hu, and Robles. Step 8: Put Huntington back on the line. Tell him your son was arrested. Complete the trade Cole + Watkins for Conforto. Step 9: Put Rizzo back on the line. Tell him your wife called and just had a baby. Complete the trade: Robles + Fedde for Robertson + Watkins. Step 10: Put Cashman back on the line. Tell him the microwave started on fire and your Stauffer’s was in there. Complete the trade Frazier + Sheffield + Adams + $10m cash for Quintana + Robertson. Step 11: Alderson: Tell him Thad threw a Febreeze scent bomb into your office and you had to open a window. Complete the trade Conforto for Frazier. Step 12: Put Neander back on the line: Tell him TC Bear had a wardrobe emergency. Complete the trade Archer + JDL + Sanchez + Hu for $10m + Sheffield + Adams + Watson. Aaaand presto. Archer and Cole are now Twins!
  14. I'm getting frustrated with Rosario. Unless he's making game saving plays on defense that I'm not aware of, they're winning in spite of him, not because of him. .273 OBP on a team with a .334 OBP overall. He needs to step it up soon or give one of the other LH hitting corner bats a shot. God knows we have alternatives.
  15. So, Mejia - Gibson on Saturday - Sunday?
  16. I probably sound like a gigantic snob but there's not a single J.J. Abrams movie I care to watch twice, and I might be done watching anything he produces again. He's obviously an expert moviemaker, nothing he's made is "terrible." But damn is everything he touches 100% disposable. Just TV/movie crack.
  17. What would be a fair price for Edinson Volquez?
  18. Not super excited about giving up players for a rental.
  19. One thing we can all agree I think is an ace needs to be able to log big IP totals. Santana has 70 IP in 10 starts. That's ace-level innings eating I'd say. Oh and the last pitch of his CGSO tonight was a fastball at 95 mph.
  20. If the Twins are going to trade I hope they make a strategic, long term move that will benefit them beyond 2017. And not for another back of the rotation guy. Go get Archer or someone along those lines.
  21. Austin Beck most likely done for the year. Went out with a bang- 3 homers and a single. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/austin-beck-hits-three-homers-final-high-school-game/ Finished .590/.700/1.218 (1.918) with 12 home runs.
  22. And 9 strikeouts to 36 walks.
  23. Its interesting to hear a guy like Jordon Adell talk about the decision to go to college or the pros. He could go anywhere from 5-20. Have to think the opportunity to be 1-1 with #5 bonus money (5.7m) would be awfully tempting. https://youtu.be/anIJA5HWPcE?t=37 A $5.7 price tag would leave the Twins with $8.46m left, or nearly as much as the Phillies who pick #8.
  24. I liked that answer too. Falvey also said "We want to line up [the board] and take the best player." Are those two statements contradictory? In most drafts the #1 picks is a. the most expensive, and b. not the best player taken. Ie. not the best value. If Greene, for example, is #1 on the board, and the Twins take him, and sign him for slot or even a bit overslot, that will put them at a disadvantage when they pick again at 35 as you describe. Becuase their bonus pool will be cut in half by that point. Fine if Greene turns into the next Bob Gibson, that's still a great value for the first round. But if Greene or one of the other top 3 (McKay or Wright) isn't worth the expense, then reaching down their board for a better value at #1 would let them reach up past the Cubs / Red Sox / etc when they pick again at 35 and 37 because they have saved some bonus pool money. Stockpiling mid-round prospects instead of taking straight BPA. Couldn't that be the best way to get maximum value when you pick #1 AND have picks 35 and 37?
  25. Argh. Only 5? I know they've systematically scouted the whole country but surely there are more than 5 they ought to be considering, no? When the goal is to get the most value out of the draft?
